MGM Movie Collection - 3 Horror Movies
Invasion of the Body Snatchers / Scarecrows / From Beyond

That is an incredible find. Scarecrows is actually a really cool, underrated horror movie from the 1980s. It recently came out on Blu-ray in a nice edition from Scream Factory:

Nothing at mine as well. Sometimes my closest store is one of the first to put stuff out. Other times, one of the last. It's impossible to predict.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I went to 2 stores also. No dvd's in front, in electronics, and the employees said they hadn't gotten in any shipments lately. But I already own at least 6 of the titles reported (which I got for a good discount, but not this much of one), all still unwatched, so maybe that will help spare me some regret?

Yeh, looks like Magnolia is dumping lots of their unsold inventory. Picked up a few interesting looking titles:

"World's Greatest Dad" is a terrific movie. I'll buy that for a dollar!
I haven't seen any of those others. I'll stop by my local Dollar Tree on the way home tonight, but my hopes are not high. They used to sell DVDs, but I don't think they even bother putting them out anymore. The lady that works there told me there was a guy who used to buy everything and resell them at the flea market for $3. I guess they just save themselves the trouble of putting them on sale. It's not really fair, but that's life.

I'll second that recommendation. I also enjoyed The Great Buck Howard a whole lot.

I see a few titles I'm curious.

But my store has gone dry.

PhantomStranger 11-04-15 12:53 AM

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Magnolia is absolutely terrible at managing their price points. They actually have a great selection of movies in their catalog but their refusal to budge on price points has cost them sales time and time again. I see four or five very good movies in the photo above. They could have merely lowered their Blu-ray prices a bit under $10 instead of having to dump DVDs at $1.

An employee told me they aren't supposed to go out until next week, but he let me look thru every single box they had (about 8 I think), Special wasn't in any of the boxes.

Interesting. I found them out at all three stores I went to this week. Two of them placed them on the item of the week table, although I didn't see any signs advertising them in the window.

I'm curious to know if anyone besides rbrown498 found Special. It seems like it was pretty rare since I found everything else.

They're finally starting to put these out. I'm glad I found Diggers, I really liked that movie. I already own the Answer Man, The Great Buck Howard, The Lost City, What Just Happened, Serious Moonlight, and the Good Doctor. So I picked up everything else they had. I'll hit up another DT tomorrow and see if I find anything different.

That's awful. If they actually know about it, they should be discouraging it.

I saw most of these last week. There were a few I might have wanted to see...but no English subtitles on most of them was the dealbreaker (Magnolia is notorious for supplying Spanish only). Ultimately I ended up only getting Angels Crest.

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

My name is DaBargainHunta, and I'm a bargainholic. I went overboard, as usual, and now feel like a cheap, used, dirty prostitute. :(

2 of the 4 Dollar Trees I went to had these DVDs out (no Blus), both in the front. I think I was the first one to look through the movies at the "good" location and probably only the second person at the second location. I got more than enough, so I won't bother checking the 3rd and 4th locations for more next week unless someone posts something really good that I didn't see in the two stores that did have stock.

I don't think I got anything that hasn't already been listed in this thread. The only thing I definitely didn't see was that Harryhausen movie someone posted here, but I suspect that person got lucky.

My haul (all DVDs):

- Android Apocalypse
- Angels Crest
- Answer Man, The
- Bachelor Man
- Deep End, The
- Diggers
- District B13
- Fay Grim (sequel to Henry Fool)
- Good Heart, The
- Graduation
- Grand Piano
- Great Buck Howard, The
- Hank and Mike
- Harlem Aria
- Hunter, The
- I Really Hate My Job
- Ira and Abby
- Malice in Wonderland
- Mister Foe
- Moving McAllister
- Night Catches Us
- Ondine
- Perfect Host, The
- Point Blank
- Red (Brian Cox)
- Romulus My Father
- Serious Moonlight
- Special
- To the Wonder
- War Within, The
- What Just Happened
- World's Greatest Dad

"Movie" books I spotted:

- Argo
- Labor Day

I always go nuts during these sales, but at a buck apiece, it's hard not to.

Whenever one of these deals pops up, there's always that one title that never shows up locally. For me, it was Boynton Beach Club last time (which CVS is selling for $12) and Julia this time. 2 of the 4 stores in my area haven't put out the movies yet, so I still have a shot at finding Julia. Not sure it's worth the hassle though.

There was at least one or two more copies there...
I honestly didn't know anything about the DVD but when I see some movie that is different from the rest, I almost always pick it up...

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

Back home; bought...

Blackthorn
The Life Before Her Eyes
The Great Buck Howard
Moonlight Serenade
Android Apocalypse

I phoned - they had just put the DVDs out less than two hours ago.

It was a full bin.

But most of them were multi-copies.

Question. Did "Moonnight Serenade" come with a slipcover?

Did not see "Special".

PhantomStranger 11-07-15 10:25 PM

Re: Dollar Tree DVDs

I hope you people left me something. This is why DVDs don't last long at $1. There would be fist fights if BDs started showing up at this price.
