"AMC Cult Classics Monsterfest - 6 Movies on 3 Dvds" does not contain that title. It has:
Carnival of Souls
Night Tide
Night of the Living Dead
House on Haunted Hill
Bluebeard
Chamber of Horrors

None of the AMC titles I own have very good prints. You would think that with a major cable "sponsor" on the cover you'd be getting very good - excellent transfers. How untrue! I'm suprised AMC didn't have these recalled when initially released so as not to ruin what little good name they had left after turning their cable channel into just another commercial filled "movie" channel.
personally, I have never bought any titles in the amc series because it looked to me like all public domain, and I doubted whether the transfers were any good, but you are right, I have heard that both the synapse and mst3k version of "brain that wouldnt die" are both excellent and uncut, and its a great campy horror film, I always said that it was the inspiration for "re-animator"

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Back in my early collecting days I bought a few of the AMC horror sets. If memory serves they're not bad for pd transfers, but they're definitely PD.

They also gave Genius a bad name, which I've now learned Genius largely didn't deserve.

Until this recent Big Lots onslaught, I didn't realize Genius mostly does indie & art films (while not at Big Lots so far they also have many of the early Fassbinders for one).

Finally found this today. Thanks.

Back to DVDs...I also picked up:

I am a Fugitive from a Chain Gang
Bugsy: Extended Cut (2 disc)

I'm not sure if it's been listed on here before - but I "blind-bought" a little title that appears to be out of print and looks quite interesting...

"The Ninth Configuration"

what am I in store for??

Big Lots find on Morse Rd. Columbus, OH:

Wyatt Earp (2 Disc)
The Baby-Sitter's Club (FS)
Sleepers (WS)
Twilight Zone: The Movie (WS)

All had UPCs slashed except Babysitters Club. First time I found those 3 WB titles around here.

An underrated movie.

It's written and directed by William Peter Blatty, whose handling of the film for Exorcist III (I think it's better than the original) was criminally treated by Warner.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Not sure if it has been mentioned in the thread, but I saw a few copies of 17 Again tonight in Milford, MA. I only mention it because, like Shorts, its a pretty recent title, seeing as it must have come out on DVD about a year ago.

For those keeping score, Fred & Ginger Volume One is:
Top Hat
Swing Time
Follow the Fleet
Shall We Dance
The Barkleys of Broadway
Volume Two is:
Flying Down to Rio
The Gay Divorcee
Roberta
Carefree
The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle

I didn't do so well completing the collections one by one at Big Lots. I have only one from Vol. 1 and have all but one of Vol. 2

So far what I'm hearing through the BL Grapevine for this week is small Warner restock from last week's big batches. Haven't seen any yet, due to lack of time.

Hey, if anyone's looking for a soft drink to go with their movies, I spotted glass bottles of Mexican Coke (made with sugar, not HFCS) for $1 a pop. Not sure what they sell for in stores (if you can find them), but they're at least double that price at most Mexican restaurants.

Do you have a recommendation on which are the best titles?

Which ones are you missing? From Vol. 2, I've still seen The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle, Flying Down to Rio and Carefree in one store.

That's a hard one to answer. From Vol. 1, I like Top Hat and Swing Time. From Vol. 2, The Gay Divorcee and Flying Down to Rio. The music in all are good with 8 of them winning or nominated for Oscars.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Today I went in while they were just putting out a huge display, 2 woman, who were maybe the rudest people I have ever came across, were grabbing at DVDs before the guy who worked there could get away - the woman then proceeded to throw HUNDREDS of DVDs in their carts as if there were 50 people there after everything, there were 4 of us.

I managed to pick up:

Where Eagles Dare
Twilight Zone the Movie
The Right Stuff
Sleepers
Cobra
Cruising
Deep Blue Sea
THX 1138
the Lost Boys
Soylent Green
Purple Rain (for my girlfriend)

They had a TON of other stuff....M Butterfly, Strangers on a Train, Jason X, etc

Thanks, I already have the Gay Divorcee and Flying Down to Rio. So now I'll be in the lookout for Top Hat and Swing Time

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

-Men In Black (Deluxe Edition)
-The Powerpuff Girls Movie

When I went back to my car, I was reading the synopsis of The Powerpuff Girls Movie on the back of the DVD case. On the bottom I noticed it said 'Standard Version' (what, no widescreen?). I always check the disc specifications before purchase, but for some reason I didn't on this title. I don't know what was more embarrassing: buying The Powerpuff Girls Movie to begin with, or walking back into the store a few minutes later and returning it for a refund.

The 5 from Vol. 1 will be really hard to find, but some are still out there. They were out 10-12 monthes ago. From Vol. 2, The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle was just put out in stores. The other 4 you can still found in limited quantities that came out 6-8 monthes ago.

People like that are truly annoying. At least you were there when it happened and were able to get a few. I went into a store in IL (I think rockford but I am not sure) on my way through a few months ago where it looked like that had just happened. Where in the midwest are you?

Uh huh... For the GF eh? j/k

Out of curiosity, was Purple Rain the 1D or the 2D SE?

Great freaking album (coming from a guy who loves Slayer, Beethoven and most things in between). I would grab it for the 5.1 mix and the extras. If it was the SE. The Movie? meh.
