Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

Visited a couple of different Big Lots and picked up:

Boogeymen FlixMix - The Killer Compilation (FF)
Lethal Weapon - Directors Cut
Get Shorty - 2 Disc CE
Mccabe & Mrs. Miller
The Bronx is Burning 3 disc - Bundled W/ Sports Cent Greatest Athelets - Babe Ruth, March Madness.
I (Heart) Huckabees
Bagdad Cafe
The Haunting
Killer Shrews/The Giant Gill Monster - Double Feature Color & Original B&W.

Almost bit on Greatest American Hero S1 but put it down. Passed on the game shows and other seasons as well.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

There were 3 ESPN box sets and at least 5 or 6 wrapped sets of 3 ESPN DVDs. Some duplicated titles in the wrapped DVD sets. Also 3 3-DVD sets of horror movies, but no Margaret Cho. Also Mill Creek titles were stocked up.

Also saw Arthur 2 and A Perfect World, but no 100 Rifles or Get Shorty SE. The Val Lewton titles were the same 2 that had already been there.

If you are looking for Get Shorty SE you might check the local Marshall's or TJ Maxx. It might be a dollar or 2 more but I know mine had them as recently as this afternoon.

Lucked out and picked up the Godard box, which I didn't even know existed. Will go along nicely with my copy of Alphaville that I picked up earlier online.

I wonder if the ones showing up are without special features, despite being listed as such? Here is a thread about it, along with replacement info. Otherwise, it is kind of surprising to see this title show up so early.

Ah, that explains it, thanks for the confirmation! I wonder if the replacement program would still be worthwhile? Or valid even?

Drove to 4 different BL's looking for 100 Rifles & SSSSSS, no luck... Did see a bunch of warner snappers I hadn't seen before, I guess they are dumping them all for the new amaray versions.

I picked up an ESPN DVD set that included The Bronx is Burning and Hustle. The Bronx is Burning included a fourth disc... Walmart exclusive.

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

I didn't even notice the sticker on the Slumdog! I just opened mine, the disc truly looks brand new (& I am PICKY about scratches). Either the factory has a resurfacing machine like I've never seen before, or else it's a rental edition that was never sent out to stores (I'm guessing the later).

The case is odd, though. Similar to the Big Lots Stage Fright dvd, there are dvd sized circles cut in the case that are covered up from the outside by the cover art. I've never sen that before BL.

Unless you are after a fair-good copy of "Penny Serenade" don't waste your time with this one.

I just don't understand AMC putting their name on such junk... like the other "AMC Movies" collections I own this is made up of some of the worst PD transfers I've seen.

So... $2 for a watchable copy of "Penny Serenade" with mostly ghastly transfers/copies on the others. If you're after watchable copies of "Charade" and/or "His Girl Friday" look for the "Cary Grant Collection" from St. Claire Vision. "Amazing Adventure" on that set is just passable at best but still better than the AMC collection.
These are apparently just some public domain sets that the manufacturer licensed AMC and TV GUIDE's logos to put their good names on (or maybe considering what they've both become in the last decade, their FORMER good names) and make them seem more prestigious and desirable. It seems for a few bucks profit for nothing AMC and TVG don't mind be associated with shoddy product.

In Austin, TX: Passed several AMC sets at William Cannon, Pharmer was totally vacant.

Still hoping for Godard Essential Director's set or Herzog 2fer.

Interestingly the AMC's seem to be Genius' lowest quality titles! Due to that I mistakenly thought at one time that Genius only did junk public domain sets.

Eco cases... They are everywhere. Thread here... http://forum.dvdtalk.com/dvd-talk-co...co-covers.html

I toss them, defeating the purpose to begin with... Good job Eco case guys.

Makes sense... After being burned on sets like this in the past, I steer clear....

Re: Big Lots Part 8 - List your FINDS here (NO trades)

picked up "tenspeed and brownshoe", this is a title that is new to dvd, it is the full series run on 3 dvds (there were 14 episodes produced, 12 of them are on here, the only one that isnt strange enough is the 2part pilot episode which cbs would not give the rights to) looks pretty entertaining, its a comedy/detective show starring Jeff Goldblum and Ben Vereen. the discs have 4 episodes each, so they run about 3 hours, seems like mill creek is really putting out some better quality product now. not too shabby for $5. I do wish that some of the other sets like hunter and renegade werent half-seasons though, otherwise I would have picked them up as well.

Grosse Pointe - The Complete Series..

Sacramento Store (one near Watt) also had
21 Jump Street

First time I have seen those show up.. really tough not to just load up on DVD's at that place.. just so cheap..

There are 2 versions of The Bronx is Burning at Big Lots.

One is the 3 disc version in standard keepcase:

The other is the 5 disc "World Championship Limited Edition" version in a digipak:
