I'm glad that it's Bandai's turn for a 40% off sale. The Lucky Star AL complete collection and OVA @ $39 total = WIN. I added Eva 1.11 on BD (which is selling at TRSI @ 20.99) to get over the $50 free shipping threshold, which saves me a few cents since my previous order for Eva 1.11 was from Amazon, which meant I would have had to pay sales tax for it

No you are right. I live in IL so I have to pay sales tax with DeepDiscount. Thanks for the reminder!

In this particular case, I considered the Darker than BLACK singles OOP. FUNimation won't be pressing anymore of these releases. Once they are gone, they are gone. The upcoming (and any future re-releases) boxset will be different sets of discs versus the singles (4 discs versus 6 discs).

TRSI is usually pretty accurate on product availability. If a product gets de-listed, there is very high chance that it will be like that elsewhere sometime in the future. Availability will definitely vary especially with the non-anime online retailers.

Robert's Anime Corner Store
March 5th: We've got something today we haven't had for a long time - we managed to find a cache of the old Vampire Princess Miyu TV Limited box set - all brand new and factory sealed and complete with bonus CD! They may be a little dusty, but they are in mint condition otherwise, so get em while they last:

This "Vampire Princess Miyu" anime seems to be pretty old (from 1998).

I think this is something for hardcore-collectors...100 bucks for a DVD Boxset 0o.

Well i slept one night about the FUNi Release of Kanon for $17.99 and i decided to place an order for it. I mean its a good deal and finding DVD 1/5 (ADV Release) for a small price is pretty hard for me (no animeshops in my country) so i am ok with it. Perhaps i should order the Blu-Ray-Release for $500 too. (Joke)

Thanks for the fast TRSi Bargain Bin Updates, WTK!

This is a very OOP boxset. I'm surprised they managed to unearth a box/shipment of this. It's right at the retail price. I have the singles, but the flimsy artbox plus the CD & charm isn't tempting enough for me.

Ordered these on two separate orders. Definitely wanted You're Under Arrest, but I have not yet decided if I want to upgrade my copy of Appleseed. At least now I have 2 months to think about it, and if I decide to get it I already have a great price locked in.

Did the same. I was going to wait for a possible (longshot) BD release of HG, but I can't pass this up at $17.

I ordered Asu no Yoichi!. Not a great but for $16,99 it's okay. I passed on Hellgirl, I'll wait for the full season set.

Of all the releases of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig, which is the best one to go with, in terms of price, content, packaging, and extras?

I would go with the cheapest version (Anime Legends?). I have the 2006 complete collection, and it's just the original volumes contained in a crappy paper box. I believe the disc content is the same (most Anime Legend sets are).

The only differences I could see would be if you were to pick up the individual LE versions they each included an extra DTS disc and some came with soundtracks. (Personally I wound up picking them up primarily for the soundtracks)

Re: Official - ANIME Bargains! - Thread [updated daily...or close to it] - March '10

I have a short question about the quality of re-releases from FUNiMATiON.

Is there any "video quality" difference between the original releases (like Last Exile, Vandread, Love Hina, Kanon on 6 discs each) and FUNiMATiON's re-releases (4 discs only without any extras).

Is it the same video quality or are there any differences like decreased details or more artifacts/grain?

Same with FUNiMATiON's own re-releases like Darker Than Black or Full Metal Alchemist on 4 discs each?

Thanks for the help!

At this point in time I would go with the AL season sets. The original boxsets weren't that great packaging wise. The LEs from the singles had some interesting goods, but it's more stuff that you would have to track down.
