NYC: new B&M DVD bargain store
 

What had once been a pop-up store has signed a lease and opened a second location. They seem to call themselves "$5.99 DVD Funhouse" or so the postcard they give out says. Lot's of basic junk BUT some real gems.

Forgot to add that evrything is brand-new, factory sealed. Their more current titles are overpriced as are their limited BluRay selections.

I stopped by last night. There are some great deals on DVDs. No Blu-rays though.. -ohbfrank-

This place (actually both locations) is right around the corner from me. I've picked up Hot Fuzz, a couple of SCTV box sets for $10 each, and the complete Danger Mouse series for around $17. Good stuff. Lots of oldies and many CD sets too.

The Broadway location has a limited selection of overpriced BluRays on a endcap rack by the registers.

You might want to pay attention to the price tags because some titles occasionally had 2 different prices.

Don't make the mistake of not buying Cracker season 2: it's the best season of perhaps the best crime series that was ever made. For $6 it's a very good deal, I think it retails for about $30-40.

A caveat: you are looking for the Granada Cracker TV series with Robbie Coltrane, not the US one.

I think the Village Voice and the free NY Metro you get in the morning near all subway stations. It was just an ad, no coupon...

With the ad it looks like the $5.99 titles are 2 for $10. That's the coupon I mentioned.

I'll look for the ad in the AM papers but it's not in the newest Village Voice.

Stopped in today (B'way) and saw they've added some great titles:
Prisoner Cell Block H Set 2 $6.99 "The cult phenomenon from Down Under"...a hodgepodge of 12 episodes of the 690 aired on Aussie TV; but does include the first four on Disc 1. Deliciously cheesy.

Grabbed the NY Metro coming out of Penn Station yesterday morning. It had the ad. Hoping to stop by after work in the next week or 2.

The Sixth Avenue store has a bunch of HD-DVDs for $5.99, including Season 4 of Nip/Tuck. I don't have an HD-DVD player so I don't know if these are good prices, but just FYI for those interested.

I stopped in on Friday and saw a couple new titles, in particular...
The Fall of the Roman Empire (3 disc limited collector's edition) for $6.99.

Also saw Indie Sex for $6.99 with the lenticular slipcase.

Update: their website is still non-existant although supposedly there is someone "working" on it.

Did see some new hot deals at the Union Square location.

Rat Pack Ultimate Collector's Edition $6.99; sells for $52.99 at DVDEmpire
Many of the previous titles have sold out.

Note: Also saw the Ultimate Collector's Edition of Rio Bravo for $6.99 (MSRP $39.99) and the HBO miniseries Five Days for $5.99. If you go to buy the Rat Pack set, be aware that some sets are priced at $9.99. Tell them you saw it for $6.99 on Sat. if they don't ring it up for the lower price.
