If anyone is interested in Aeon Flux (the show), the Sixth Avenue location has two different exclusive versions. One is a Target exclusive that contains some cards (I think), and the other has a bonus DVD of Liquid Television shorts. Both are $6.99. I got the second one.

Was at the Sixth Ave store yesterday and for animation fans they had both volumes of the Universal Woody Woodpecker and Friends Classic Collection @$9.99. These list for $26.99. As previous posters mentioned, they have the Rio Bravo Ultimate Edition@$6.99, the Searchers Ultimate Edition @$9.99 and the Rat Pack Ultimate Collection at $6.99 (though some are mismarked at $9.99 as pointed out above). Both stores have a section of previously viewed Blockbuster titles at $3.99 each or 3 for $10 but if they see you browsing the section they often give you a card which makes it 4 for $10. Mostly junk but occasionally some interesting titles mixed in, especially on smaller labels like Tartan Asia Extreme. They carry, like Entertainment Outlet on 14th Street, Canadian releases on Alliance. The latest recent titles I saw which I had not seen previously were Nine and Inglourious Bastards at $5.99 and the Inglourious Bastards 2 Disc Edition at $6.99. Be prepared at both locations because they play pulsating music at sometimes blinding volume.

Those are some good deals, especially the Woody Woodpecker sets. Wish we had those kind of stores here in Chicago.

Glad someone else thinks so. The one time I shopped there (Broadway) I dropped a chunk of change, but I might have done more without the bumpity-bump. :-P

By the way, since the end of 2009, there is a third, very similar store at 306 Eighth Avenue between 25 and 26 Street which goes by the name of Drew's Cheap DVDs. They often carry many of the same items. When they first opened the prices pretty much mirrored the other two stores. I was under the impression there was a connection to the two $5.99 DVD Funhouse stores, especially since the website stub mentions all three stores. More recently, the Eighth Avenue store seems to price some of the same items higher than the other two stores.

I happened upon the store in May and ended up picking up the "Indie Sex" documentary and a John Waters "Polyester/Desperate Living" double feature, both for $6.99.

Much like Big Lots, they seem to tear apart box sets and sell the titles individually while, rather oddly, also selling some of the box sets themselves.

I check it out everytime I'm down but haven't picked up anything since the first visit. Did kind of curse to myself when I saw "Prisoner Cell Block H" there, but I'd grabbed those for $15 each from the A & E website so the burn wasn't that bad. They list for $50 a pop.

Hoping the Hitchcocks are still around when I'm there in January.

As for that Women In Peril set, it seems weird that they'd put a well-regarded and Oscar-nominated movie liked "Caged" with two widely-acknowledged pieces of crap ("The Big Cube" and "Trog"). I know it has camp appeal and doesn't shy away from the "women in prison" stereotypes, but it's supposed to be a genuinely good movie.

Just made a return visit to the Union Square store.

Batman Beyond Season 2 26 episodes ( half the series) $9.99
The Searchers Collectors edition with book and all $6.99 or $9.99 Most marked $9.99 but in saw a few marked $ 6.99
Rio Bravo Collectors edition $6.99 I think . Not sure
Treasure of the Sierra Madre 2 disc $6.99 They must have a 100 copies of this set.

Some updates:
Inside The Actor's Studio- Icons (3 disc set) has been marked down to $3.99 and they have a big stack at Union Sq. Originally $39.99
Led Zeppelin- The Song Remains The Same (2 disc set) $6.99, originally $20.99
Still have a lot of the Crackers Series 2 available but quite a few of the earlier titles are gone and some of the prices have gone up even.

So, now they are officially listing Drew's on Eighth Avenue as one of their stores. Prices are still higher at that store then the other two.

Examples: the Casablanca Ultimate Edition that was $6.99 at Union Square when I purchased it about four months ago is now $9.99 at Union Square and Sixth Avenue and $24.99! at Drew's. The Rat Pack Collection is similarly $19.99! at Drew's while $9.99 at the other two stores.

On the other hand, Drew's still has the two disk complete Droopy Cartoons for $8.99 as it has for about a year but the other two stores sold out a long time ago after dropping the price to $6.99.

The take away - you need to check all the stores and you need to be careful of price discrepancies between them as well as re-pricing, both up and down.

Also, be sure to check out Entertainment Outlet on 40th or 14th because sometimes they are cheaper on the same item. Current example: The Searchers Ultimate Edition is $9.99 at these stores and $7.99 at Entertainment Outlet.

Grabbed a couple copies of the paper and was able to get Treasure of Sierra Madre and since they were out of an advertised title I wanted, I was able to substitute another deluxe collector's set priced at $6.99. Two for $10.
They tossed in a business sized card that says:

"3 DVDs for $11.99 Valid only Jan. 10th- Feb. 5th with this coupon, one per customer when signing up for mailing list."

Sounds to me as if they're getting ready to launch their website since it can't be an USPS mailing address they're looking for.

Delayed reaction, but I picked up the Legacy Edition of "Rear Window" at Drew's in mid-January for $6.99. Did comparison shopping with the 21st & 6th store and for the few things I found that I actually considered buying, Drew's won out.

The actual discs has both English and French titles imprinted...oh well....

Heading back next week, hopefully with a little more time to hit the Broadway location and Entertainment Outlet.

It was such a ramshackle store that I can't say I'm surprised.

Hit Ultimate Electronics on 14th St and picked up "Love Me or Leave Me" (Doris Day/Jimmy Cagney) and the two-disc special edition of "Giant" for $5 each.
