Anyone's local stores had a restock yet? All the ones around here are still slim pickings.

Same here. I was shot down at a different store today, trying to use more than one coupon (1 coupon per DVD, but I wanted to buy 4). I used two in one transaction last week, but since then they keep limiting me to one. I can't argue, since the coupon clearly states one per member. But seeing as they can't stop me from going back over and over again, it would be nice if they'd realize that and just let me buy everything I want at the same time...

Have you tried asking a clerk just to make sure they don't have more? My stores have Criterions in 3-4 different locations, with 200-300 Criterions per store. And that's not counting the Blu-Ray titles...

I've been to 5 different stores around here and they were all set up exactly the same. The regular Criterion section and then a small rack right by the entrance to the CD/DVD dept., that's it. Unless they have stock in the back that they haven't put out.

If yes, I don't want to spend $10 more for booklets and extra.

No. The selection at my store is getting slimmer and slimmer. I got most of what I want already, but when there is a specific title not in stock, I have them order it for me. There's no money up front, it comes right to the store, and I get to use a $5 coupon. Takes about 2-3 days.

had no problem with the $5 coupon on the 7th Seal BD tonight....i've gone WAY overboard on this sale at this point though...so i'm almost kind of hoping they won't take the coupons anymore so i'll stop!

amazing how close i came to ordering this for $25 from Amazon thinking what a good price it was...and here I bought it tonight for $13.78 out the door. just insane.

Yes, if you get the right clerk and stock arrives timely.

My experience in NYC:
Union Square did get some restock; not all titles but a substantial amount. I've NEVER been able to get them to accept anything but 1 different coupon per DVD in the same transaction. So it usually means $5 off a purchase then repeats although lately they're getting uppity.
Fifth Ave. tried once and got denied. Spoke to the manager who tried to explain to me that it doesn't meet the minimum, etc. However I told him the terms (fine print) and he didn't want to listen because he was telling me that they're losing money on them. It became clear to me that he had no knowledge of incentive pricing, what the terms were or even what the HQ may think; just if the register rejects it, then it isn't legal.
Third & 54th I had success (ALWAYS one DVD/$5 coupon per transaction) once and went back there on Wed. when a different clerk told me the coupon hasn't worked but he tried to make it go through for me. He asked if I'd like to talk to the manager and I said yes. After we finally got her to call back, the clerk explained in detail his problems, due to it not meeting the minimum threshold of $20. I could only hear his side of the discussion but very quickly I realized that she said it was a legal and to complete the sale.

Latest couple hauls from different stores and days:
The Friends Of Eddie Coyle
Ace In The Hole
Il Generale Della Rovere
Raymond Bernard (Eclipse)
Made In The U.S.A.
Science Is Fiction
Europa

I'm thinking of a couple returns especially 8 1/2 as the BluRay comes out in January.
The upcoming Rossellini box with Open City, etc. will wait till next sale.

Got a few more. Can't afford any more for this sale. There's still more that I want but I will have to wait until the next sale.

Picked up:

Wages of Fear
Le Cercle Rouge
Rififi

Thanks to everyone for all the advice on how to get the best deals. This forum is awesome.

It's in the thread several times, but the 24th. We should probably add it to the thread title. New releases of the 24th not included in the sale.

New in-store 25% off coupon. Good through the 22nd.

All my local stores have:
  • Criterion display as you walk into the media section
  • Criterions in the new release section
  • the regular Criterion DVD section
  • the regular Criterion blu-ray section
  • and usually an endcap or two with Criterions (these are often not where you would expect, so it pays to make a 20 second walk around of the whole department)

All the ones here do the endcap thing too, but they are the endcaps to the Criterion section. And yeah, they do keep the Criterion Blu's with the other Blu-Rays.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

Thanks to the 20% off coupon that showed up in my email box today, as well as a $5 off a single DVD and $5 off a $50 purchase, I bought Cocteau's Orphic Trilogy for $28.79, Children of Paradise for $13 and the full version of Grand Illusion for $13. I love my B&N store and clerks...

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10

How sure is everyone that there is going to be another Criterion sale in the Spring?

The reason I ask is because there are still several other titles I am considering getting before this sale ends but would prefer to just wait if another sale is confirmed.

Another thing hold me back is the possibility that the titles I want may soon be released on blu-ray. How much advance notice has Criterion given in the past in regard to upcoming blu releases?

It was popular enough for a repeat sale only months after the first one. Chances are likely very good.

Yea, they have to get rid of these things some how right? lol

Does anyone buy as many, or any, at 39.99 and up?

Does the $5 off coupon work on titles that are normally $30. Does the "over $20" rule apply for the original price or for the 1/2 off discounted price?

I had no problem getting $30 titles for $8.50 after coupon and member discount. However, it appears that many B&N stores are cracking down. So as is the case with everything in life, YMMV.
