Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10
[QUOTE=Paul_SD;Today I plan to go back for Eric Rohmers Six Moral Tales and a few others.
(I remember how bummed a lot of people were when DD canceled the orders on the SMT set a couple summers back. I think the price with the 25% off coupon here will beat that by a good $10. If only I could exercise patience for more things, I'd save a hell of a lot of money).
Yeah, I remember getting this during the last B&N sale for thirty-some dollars by stacking a couple of discounts. Felt like I was stealing it at first (but I got over it).
I bought most of my blu ray titles at this location. Sorry :/

Just got back with it. Didn't realize that they would take one of each coupon with no hassle. In fact, the first location I went to, it sounded like the guy would have taken as many coupons as I had commensurate with the number of discs purchased. I had a whole bunch of $5 off ones in the car, but didn't want to push my luck. I was happy to get the Rohmer set and Eddie Coyle.
Hit another one on the way home and picked up Howards End (Bd) and Spy Who Came In From The Cold. I'm eyeing the Lubsitch musicals set and might try to hit another one before they close tonight.

The woodland mall story has a LOT more stock than the rivertown store...and the staff is also extremely coupon friendly. I've spent most of my $ there and have had zero problems using multiple $5 coupons just by doing separate transactions. it's worth the extra 10 minutes to drive over there. They gave me a tough time at Rivertown when I wanted to use two of the $5 coupons.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10
and to add to the haul, I did pick up the two recent Mellvilles (Le Doulos & Le Deuxieme Souffle) and Blast of Silence - all w/ $5 off coupons - at the Woodland Mall store. Then I had to go towards Holland on my way home so checked there just to avoid Rivertown and the old lady working was really nice, but the selection had been cleaned out - she said a guy was in earlier and had bought over 20 and said he'd be back later I did get Sansho the Bailiff and In the Mood for Love for the wife - only had one $5 coupon left on me along w/ a 25% off, so just used one of each....both for $28 out the door is fine....i figure i won't worry too much about the 50 cent difference between the two coupons.
Want to get a few more of the lower tier discs before this is over...since I got the membership 10 days ago, i'm actually now within the terms of the new $5 coupon - not that anyone has even looked at that....but it's nice to know I will be completely legit walking in

Has anyone watched their Howards End BD yet? I came across this negative review in Amazon and was wondering whether or not it had any merit as I was thinking of picking this BD up.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful:
1.0 out of 5 stars Blu Ray image quality worse than DVD!!!, November 9, 2009
By I. Tang "tang1an" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I pre-ordered this BluRay and to my disappointment, at certain spots, e.g. at several outdoor scenes, I see severe pixelation and 'snow storm; artifacts. Why pay extra to see an inferior image? I wonder if it is the remastering or this particular disc I got, but this kind of quality is deeply disappointing. I certainly had no such problems with 'A Passage to India' and ' A Room with a View'. My BluRay player is a top of the line machine so I am sure it's not my hardware. So what's wrong?

Will after making several B & N trips since this sale started so far all I have bought has been .
First Films of Sam Fuller $15.48
White Dog $8.50
Two phenomenal deals, but I have come to the conclusion that I think I own every single Criterion I want. If anyone is bored & wants to go through my collection & recommend me something feel free to do so. I have no interest in owning every Criterion, that is crazy, I just want the movies I will enjoy enough to watch more than once.

I bought a shit load the last 50% off sale, & so far that Eric Rohmer set was the single best blind-buy I bought. I absolutely love it for the price its at during this sale, I can't recommend it enough.

For the price right now, it's worth it. I just buy the movies I enjoy though, I have no interest in Howard's End or The Last Emperor no matter how cheap. I have zero interest in ever revisiting those movies.

Well, I just struck again. Picked up:
- Nikkatsu Noir box set
- The Killers
- Homicide
Used a 25% off coupon on NN, and $5 coupons on t'other two. Then I snagged Roadhouse (BD) (surprisingly not in the criterion Collection!) to bump my total over $50, and use that $5 coupon. Out 'o there for just under $60 total before taxes...

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10
Sorry, too lazy to read the whole thread.
Is the cheapest way to just use a $5 off coupon after using member discount?
And if I'm getting a box set I can use the 25% off instead of the $5 off?
I'll probably only pick up a couple titles, but its better than nothing.

My order I placed on Saturday for Third Man Blu-Ray just got canceled. Guess they only found a handful in the warehouse. Good luck to anyone else that ordered it.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10
My viewing habits over the last 15 years or so have veered towards less challenging, lighter 'popcorn' stuff. I don't watch anywhere near the amount of foreign, subbed material that I did in the late 80's/early 90's.
So I wasn't too heartbroken when I missed the SMT set in that DD sale. In fact, I don't think I ever gave it a second thought. But now that I have the set in my hands, I'm looking forward to digging into it. May take a while though. Lot of backlog to get through (even more now after the haul from this sale).
Made a second trip yesterday and picked up
Bicycle Thieves
49th Parallel
The Lubitsch Musicals
The Complete Monterey Pop Festival (Bd)
will probably be picking up a couple every day for a while

Bought today in store.last day of the 25% off coupon.
Sales person was okay, had problems with $5 off $50 had to buy 3 $40 Criterions for them to accept it,besides that it went okay.
No way would they let me do more then one $5 off a DVD,I didn't even ask.
all in all not a bad deal.
1-The Human Condition (1959) - The Criterion Collection(10% + 25% off)$27
2-Essential Arts Vol IV( 50% off+ (10% + 25% off)
Not alot of extras if any,but you get 6 movies,I now have all 4 boxsets--$34
3-The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
--My own Private Idaho(have the Canadian DVD,but need all the Criterins extras on this great movie)
--Pierrot Le Fou(blu-ray)might exchange,I have the rental from netflix I need to watch first.$44 or about $15 each.

Re: Criterion DVD's and Blu-Rays 50% off at Barnes and Noble 11/10
By using the pick up service and searching throughout the different stores in Manhattan I was able to reserve all 9 titles that I wanted....but I have to go to 3 different stores today to buy them. The Monterey Pop Blu-ray Boxset was the hardest to find as it's only available in one store.
There were significant voids in what has been a stuffed Criterion display and I'm told the main warehouse in Florida is running through it's inventory; so they weren't sure about restocks. I'm a little skeptical...but I did notice that they used to replenish the shelves with stock from the back and from the gaps, it appears that's over.
Sunday's acquisitions:
The Earrings of Madame de...
Death Of A Cyclist
Under The Volcano
each with a $5 off coupon.

Wow, this is a depressing sale. I realized that there is only one Criterion film that (is released) that I actually want to own. If only I could order The Golden Age of Television at 50% off.

Probably not. It's already been mentioned a couple times that titles released on 11/24 will not be part of the sale. YMMV of course.
