Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
The store in Medford, NY is in its last days...the consoles and TVs are not for sale and the DVD selection was miserable (no, I don't want Norbit or Saw 1 through a bajillion)

Oooo. Well, again, a call out for any info on South Florida BB putting on closeout sales will be appreciated. According, to the last post, it seems like a YMMV situation so, if anyone know of BB's closing in Miami-Dade or Broward Counties, I'd travel the miles to look for a $100 PS3.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
Blockbuster Inc. is closing two of its 14 Brevard County stores as part of a cost-cutting plan to pare 960 locations nationwide by the end of 2010.
The Dallas-based chain confirmed on Thursday that locations at 4100 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne and 7777 N. Wickham Road in Suntree will be closed by Jan. 1, 2010, and are expected to cease renting movies and games later this month. A store at 1919 U.S. 1 in Sebastian is also scheduled to close.
Employees said the last day to rent movies and games at those locations will be Sunday, Oct. 25. Starting the next day, some inventory will go on sale, a process that could continue until Jan. 1, 2010. Other items will be moved to stores that will remain open.
"There will be some good deals available," said Blockbuster spokesman Randy Hargrove.
Hargrove said the company will do its best to relocate employees at the closing stores to other locations.
In mid-September, Blockbuster said competition from Netflix and the video kiosk Redbox, as well as increased use of video-on-demand services, was necessitating the store closings. In financial documents, the company said the store reductions would claim about one-fifth of its overall locations.
The company's net loss in the second quarter was $39.7 million, or 21 cents per share, on revenue of $1.02 billion, Blockbuster said last month. That's an improvement from a $44.7 million, or 23 cents per share, net loss one year ago on revenue of $1.3 billion.
In addition to the 12 remaining Blockbuster locations in Brevard, several Publix supermarkets -- including the Suntree location in the same plaza as the Blockbuster -- feature Blockbuster-brand rental kiosks.
Hargrove said the company is focusing more on offering its services through kiosks and by piping movies directly into personal computers and televisions.
And, Hargrove added, with 12 locations remaining in Brevard, customers of the stores to be closed shouldn't have far to drive.

Picked up from the Mount Laurel, NJ store, which will be closing tomorrow:
Synecdoche New York: $2
Flirting With Disaster: $2
Hostel (disk only): $1
28 Weeks Later (disk only): $1
Not much left, except for very recent horror movies.

slowcloud..the Blockbuster on Coral Way, at the entrance of Miracle Mile (37th Ave, I believe?) Is closing on Nov. 5. I was just there this morning and the selection was still good. I picked up Mad Men Season 1, Desperate Housewives Season 5, (both $25 after markdown), Milk, Madea Goes To Jail, and Che Part 2. I'm planning on going again tonight after work, hoping they still have Mad Men season 2, which i stupidly decided not to buy

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
Anybody found a list of the stores closing? I've done some searches and have been unable to turn up anything. I remember during the spate of Hollywood Video closings in 2008 there was a list of store closings that turned up around here.
Last week, I found some pretty good deals at the stores on Fairview and Abbey Place in Charlotte, NC. They had just started closing.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
I got some good deals at the store in West Roxbury, Mass. They just started their closing sale on Tuesday, so there's a decent selection. They have all new releases $9.99 all catalog titles $5.99 and all Blu-Rays $14.99 and all TV Season sets $19.99
I'm not much for video games so I didn't really look at the prices for the game discs.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
My local store is closing. The prices stink, imo. $14.99 for a used movie is no good when these things are hitting $9.99 and $14.99, new, on a regular basis. It always amazes me how the "clearance" phenomenon often times trumps regular shopping judgement.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
just found out my local BBV is closing. Went it - what a mob!!
And the liquidation sale was (drum roll, please).
All PVD movies now $14.99 and $9.99!!
That's right! Last week you could have gotten these for 4/$20 or worse 3/$20. But NOW you can save and get them for only $14.99 and $9.99!!!
Someone keep me sane here - didn't they just jack UP the prices TWO TIMES?
And people were cleaning out the place!!
"ooh. Look honey!! PVD movies now on sale for $9.99!!! Let's get as many as we can before they are gone!"
Incredible. Even 3/$20 for these $9.99 stuff was too much.
Essentially they just stopped all the 4/$20 and 3/$20 sales and just called the sticker prices the liquidation sale!
And the discs without cases/artwork - $5.99!
The games were a whopping 10% off.
Based on today's frenzy, when things get to be a more sane price range, there won't be anything left.
Sigh.

I went to one that was closing here. All the used stuff was 40% off. I'm really not sure of the pricing of those because I wasn't interested in them at all. The new stuff was a whole 10% off! I saw stuff there that I had seen THAT DAY at other places for less than half of the "clearance price" at Blockbuster. No wonder they can't compete!

Yeah, with these prices. OOP titles are the way to go. I'd wait to the final days for larger discounts on more common titles.

Shelves were getting near empty.. Discs without cases were 5.99 and people were crowded around them like they were gold.. most of them I have seen elsewhere brand new for less than that and some even by online sellers new and shipped for less.
That was the most people I have ever seen in that store at once.
The only section that still had quite a few things left was the new movies section marked down 10%... weak prices.
Funny thing is I usually drive by that store a few times a day and this is the first day I noticed the signs... possibly I could have missed them but if this was the first day and this is what they have left I can't see them having anything left at the end of the week.
They should just do some fake store closings and then they will all be back in business..
