The Blockbuster on
5314 Mt View Rd
Antioch, TN
is closing in 2 weeks. They already have a sale all "New" release titles are 7.99 and video games are 7.99 with the framed poster art was 50% off. They also have their category titles for $3.99 and the buy 3 for $20 or 4 for $10 on some of those apply. The TV on DVD was a joke though they had some full seasons priced at $7.99 but other shows they had the individual disc priced this much. With a liquidation like that no wonder they are bankrupt.

Blockbuster in Westminster, MD is closing. Most titles at each price point are just too expensive, and its nearly impossible to find enough titles to qualify for the deal. I almost picked up the OOP Silent Night Deadly Night double feature for 6.99 but the disc was trashed.

$4.99- 5/20
$6.99- 4/20

Any news on BBs in South Florida shuttering doors? I know a few disappeared a couple of years ago. Will more in my area go now??? I'd be happy to take advantage of sales.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
Here in Upstate SC they're not closing stores. They're still having the usual "5 DUDs for $25" (my spelling! - reflects the quality of titles' selection) to which they add something like two 2 liter Cokes.
Next year I will move somewhere else and this 6-week free trial convinced me that a good way to assess the cultural level for a certain zip code is to go into the local Blockbuster and check out the selection of films in their foreign section. I have already compared my local hick one with the other, right next to a large university (in this case we're talking about Clemson)

Unless there is a definite item you want, wait until the last day. I picked up about 40 movies @ 1.99 a piece. Now,s ome of the war movies I wanted were gone but I got enough good stuff to make up for it. Plus, there are no returns on the closeout sales, I'll risk a buck 99 on a used movie from BB but no way would I pay 6-8 bux for a movie that may have some damage.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
WTF!?!? I just found out today that a Blockbuster by my work was closing down. So I decided to stop in. I could not believe what I saw. A big sign "30% off previously viewed DVDs". WHAT? Thats $9.99 a DVD!. You can do three for $20.00 at any non-closing Blockbuster. And worse of all they took all the $9.99 DVDs and put $14.99 stickers over top on the $9.99 stickers. So instead of 5 for $20.00 on all $9.99 DVDs its just $9.99 each. I could not believe this crap. I was at least expecting 50% off making the prices on the DVDs about the same as in stores that are still open. And whats up with $5.99 for old titles w/o artwork? The plus side was when I pissed off the manager by telling calling him out. I pointed out that they marked up the $9.99 DVDs. He replied with "no we didnt", so I then walked over grabbed two different titles and pealed up the $14.99 sticker to revile the $9.99 sticker. He didnt say anything to that. I then told him that the "closeout sale" was more expensive than shopping at a still open Blockbuster. He then told me that the sale was good because of all the great old titles for sale. I then told him that 75% of their "old titles" can be found brand new at most stores for under $10.00 and the other 25% can be found brand new for $10.00. So why pay $9.99 for an old used and probably scratched DVD (PS: They all looked to be first release editions) when I can get them new for the same price or less? He replied with "I dont know". He did however tell me that each week they will keep upping the percentage off so maybe in 3 weeks it might be worth a trip back in?

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
these sales always get better as they go along...most people are not "in the know" about finding "deals" like dvdtalkers. I see many people with handfuls of dvds at B&M sales paying much more then average prices online. Ok guys where are all these clsoing sales? Have not heard of any in Southern California and we are loaded with Blockbusters..

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
I passed a store here a few days ago that's apparently closing. The sign in the window said, "Everything 10-30% off." Knowing their regular prices, I said, "Whoop. Dee. Doo."

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
I was passing through Northridge the other night and saw a Blockbuster going out of business. I'm not familiar with the area, so I don't know the cross streets and I wasn't driving and I didn't care, but I noticed it and it's in a shopping complex with Wal-Mart and Joanne Fabrics. Hope that helps, such as it is.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
Many store closings are handled by professional liquidators. Marking the prices up before applying the discounts is SOP. Happened with Circuit City, and there was even a expose on the local news about a home furnishing chain doing it as well.
As others have pointed out, though, people swoop in and stock up on the "deals". By the time the liquidators mark down things to the point where they become a bargain to us, almost everything worth having has already been scooped up. Unless a local BB has some rare OOP stuff you're interested in (if only any of them carried the MST3K version of Beginning of the End!), it's likely not worth the effort.

The Wayne store reopened Monday with all the repricing you described and guess what.
They did nearly $7000 in sales with that crappy pricing strategy because it was a store closing sale.
A normal Monday might be $300 - $1000 but closer to $300.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
The store in Quail Corners in Charlotte, NC is having its last few days, every DVD is $2.99 or less. The Blu-Ray pricing is still atrocious though, like 15% off their already inflated prices (think $29.99) plus you end up with their crappy replacement case.
I picked up some good stuff for under $25: Repo! The Genetic Opera, In Search of a Midnight Kiss, A Girl Cut In Two, The Mother, Two Lovers, Mister Foe and Waltz with Bashir.
If anyone knows of any stores closing in NC/SC, let me know.

Just as a heads up for anyone that has a BB closing near them. Try to get the tv's and consoles that they have in the store. My BB had all movies, Blu-rays and games for $5 each. and they sold the 37" HD tv's for $50 each and the gaming consoles for $100

We're talking the display items? What barnd and model are the tvs? And what gaming concols are they? If it's a BR-playing PS3 that works, I'd pick it up to finally have a BR player at home.

I have no idea, I wasn't the one that got them, it was someone from work that did. The console was a PS3
