Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
BBV in Madison, AL is closing. They had New Releases for $8, TV Series for $10, Wii/PS3/360 games for $10, Gold Favorites for $5, and Library for $3. You got 10 for $15 on the library titles, so I scoured that pretty well. Also, the clerk rang my TV sets up as a library title for each disk. I walked out with Shield S7, The Fly Collection, Circle of Iron, The Blob Criterion, two Wii games, Towering Inferno SE, Breaking Bad S1, Demons, and a handful of other disks for

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
All of the Blockbusters in the Mid-Maryland area (Frederick, Hagerstown, Westminster) are closing. So I went to a few stores to see what I could find and got.
Pineapple Express BD
Forgetting Sarah Marshall BD
Waltz With Bashir BD
Ratatouille BD
Adventureland BD
Coraline BD
All for about $10-12 each.
And then I was close to getting the Silence Of The Lambs Criterion but it turned out to be the Criterion Box with the old SE disc inside .
Still I got the Counterfeiters, Amelie, and Seraphin Falls for $3 each.
All the Blu Rays have the original cover art with a small BB sticker on the front. I was able to get 2 spare BD cases and now need to find an additional four. The movie that had Digital Copies weren't included but then again I don't use them anyway.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
The pricing is tiered based on how new the product is. I know its $16.99 or 2 for $25 on newest used Blus and $14.99 or 2 for $25 for Blus out in the last 6-12 months. Blus older than that are 12.99 or 2 for 20.
Games are structured similarly with 2 for's ranging from $25-40.
DVDs older than a year are $5 each or 3 for $10. Sorry I don't have more information as I was more interested in the product left than the prices.
None of the 4 stores (Walkersville, Spring Ridge, Ballanger Creek, Mt. Airy) knew of the closing day as the liquidation news broke just sunday to be started 24 hours later.

One good resource to check to see if any of your local stores are closing is your local Craigslist's business category. I think I've seen one in there near me a few months ago.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
UPDATE ON STORE CLOSURES!
Just got word from a manager/friend at Blockbuster. Blockbuster is NOT closing 960 more stores! About two years ago they announced they would be closing 520 stores nationwide. They have slowly been closing them down since that announcement. They just recently announced the number would be going up to 960. So in fact 960 more stores are not closing only 440. My area was already affected by the closings two years ago. So if a bunch of Blockbusters shutdown by you within the past two years do not expect anymore by you to do so. The same rules still apply. They are going to try and keep stores at least 10 miles apart and get rid of any who pay outrageous leases.
Also...
The 3 for $20.00 (14.99 or less) and the 5 for $20.00 ($9.99 or less) sale is back. And some stores (even the ones not closing) have the used DVDs in the CD jewel cases for sale all marked at 9.99.

Went by another blockbuster store last night. This one was not closing either. In fact they had a sign in the window saying they were hiring.

Re: Blockbuster Store Closing Sale 2009
Are these closings going to be "Corporate Owned" stores or is this ""ALL / FRANCHISE"" stores also.. as the stores that I go to are all "Franchise" stores.

Westminster Maryland closings article
End of the run: Three Carroll Blockbusters liquidating inventory, closing up shop
By Bryan Schutt, Times Staff Writer Thursday, September 24, 2009
DYLAN SLAGLE/STAFF PHOTO Myrna Hayes of Westminster looks for movies at the Blockbuster store in the Crossroads Shopping Center in Westminster Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Both Blockbuster franchise locations in Westminster are closing, selling off their inventory to customers.
“Store Closing Liquidation Sale Everything Must Go,” read the signs draped outside both Westminster Blockbuster video stores. Crossing beneath the banners, a steady flow of customers carrying out dozens of movies and video games gives merit to the deals.
Marking the nationwide video rental chain’s struggles as it fights off competition from mail-service, kiosk-based and on-demand rental programs, the two city locations and Mount Airy store will be closed once all of the merchandise is gone.
Customers steadily picked through the shelving since the decision to close was announced earlier this week, said Joanne Hoffman, store manager at Crossroads Shopping Center location.
“I believe 10 stores in Maryland are going,” she said. “We weren’t really given any notice and a lot of people are going to be without jobs. The saddest part is that there’s a lot of people that rent here and what are they going to do for entertainment?”
The regional stores, which extend into Frederick and Hagerstown, are closing because the franchise is going out of business, said Hoffman. The owner of the franchise didn’t return phone calls. Franchising allows third party operators to sell merchandise or provide services of another company.
Last week, Blockbuster Inc. announced it may close up to 960 stores by the end of next year, trimming its store inventory by about 20 percent.
Nationwide, Blockbuster had 3,750 company-operated stores and 606 franchised stores open as of its regulatory filings on Sept. 15.
Blockbuster stores in Hampstead and Eldersburg, which are not owned by the same franchisee, will remain open.
Blockbuster’s biggest competition lies in the DVD-by-mail service Netflix and Coinstar Inc.’s Redbox, a $1-per-night kiosk rental service.

Through the first half of the year, Netflix, which launched a decade ago, earned $55 million, while Blockbuster lost $15 million.
Consumers using Netflix choose selections online then receive DVDs through the mail. Monthly subscription rates average from $9 to $17. In the last two years, Netflix lured even more customers by building up its library of movies available for instant viewing over high-speed Internet connections, according to the Associated Press.
Chief Executive James Keyes said in an interview earlier this month with the Associated Press that Blockbuster hasn’t yet conclusively decided to close all the stores mentioned.
Keyes described the closures mentioned in the documents as something that Blockbuster is considering as it sets up more DVD-rental kiosks in the stores of other merchants, similar to Redbox.
By the middle of next year, AP said Blockbuster hopes to have 10,000 kiosks scattered around the country. It had just 500 kiosks at the end of August. None currently exist in the county, according to Blockbuster’s Web site.
Blockbuster also offers a mail rental service similar to Netflix, which it plans to continue.
Westminster resident Jeanine Koetting said she is sad to see the store go and wasn’t sure where she would rent from next. But with three boys who enjoy video games, she made the most of the closing and picked up several titles that could be birthday and Christmas presents Wednesday at the Crossroads Shopping Center Blockbuster.
Similarly, Myrna Hayes, of Westminster, said she was driving by the store, saw the sign and figured it would be a great chance to stock up the family movie collection.
She checked out with more than 15 titles.
“I’d rather they stay in business, though,” she said. “I always came in here for movies.”
