Not that I've found in the south D-FW area. I was at my closest story pretty much when these things hit the shelves. No sign of them except Batman TAS Vol. 3, which someone had in their hands already. Others were cleaned out by the time I made it there.

Ended up in Gaithersburg MD last night for the first time ever and checked the Big Lots there.

No $10 sets, no blu-rays, no animation sets, a few TV sets like O.C., War at Home, Dukes of Hazzard and Night Court S1.

ARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I work 200 yards from a Big Lots and check the place 6 days a week, once @ 9 (get my CocaCola for the day if no movies) and again @ lunch. The one day I don't check, yesterday, they stock up!!!!! And I get there @ 9 today and it is picked clean except for a few items. Managed to pick up 5 or 6 sets, most to trade for what I really want. I just wonder what I might have missed out on.......

Went to three BL north of Denver yesterday - all three had been ravaged by DVD locusts.

Oddly, there were still plenty of copies of Joey, Season One.

Perhaps I should publish it all over the internet (minus the delivery schedules) with a message that urges people to call and complain about people like you.

Somehow I believe they would be the first to empty the shelves should they happen upon a veritable "gold mine" of box sets—you can bet your bottom dollar on that…

Big Lots are not located everywhere and the sets that I have sold were priced less than $10—still a fraction of the price offered anywhere else. The people who purchased from me are quite happy that they got a deal as well. I just profited a bit for my efforts and ended up acquiring my collection for free. I call that smart, not greedy.

Sour grapes and, of course, sense of entitlement. Afterall, since I drove an hour to the store, I sure as hell deserve these sets.

Doing the opposite (like Seinfeld's George) pays off....
I was not going to stop at the BL on my way back home this AM. I thought I will go tomorrow, but glad I decided not to listen to myself and picked up one of two Jonny Quest sets my BL had this AM... as of 10am they still had one left.
Had I gone in tomorrow, those copies could have been picked up.

While I was there I had to pick a few other sets(Top Cat, TFTC s1,3, and s4)...tough to resist while you are there.

I had the mindset to buy just 'Quest' and take off--- but when you see titles you've been meaning to add to your collection...it really is tough to resist(at these prices).

At least I can stop going to BL for a few weeks now(I hope)

Actually, it was the Black Friday circular from 2007 that started me on the road to Big Lots madness. That was when they had some Columbia titles for $2 and I picked up the BATMAN Serial and the STEVE MCQUEEN BOX SET (the Columbia one with :The War Lover" and "Baby the Rain Must Fall") as part of the BF sale. (I even went there on Thanksgiving to see if the sets had been put out early, but the manager said to come back Friday).

One of the things that kills me is that there used to be a huge Big Lots in Fenton, 2 miles from my home. It would have been very convienient for me to check out daily or even more frequently, but it closed in January 2008. Maybe that's a blessing, though...

Yesterday I hit up St. Peters first thing in the morning and finally got was able to grab several sets.
Flintstones 2,5,6
Tales from the Crypt 2,3,4,5,6
Popey vol 1
Adventures of Superman season 1
Superman Serials Collection
Batman TAS 2,3
Dastardly and Mutley
Top Cat
Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm
I was the second one there and was lucky to get what I got because I made an effort to get there bright and early. A few people showed up minutes later and left dissapointed. There just wasn't enough there.
Later in the day a had to go th Belleville and hit up St. Charles Rock Road, Faiview Heights, Granite City, West Florrisant and I could only find Flintstones season 1.
Everything was wiped out.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

I admit to being surprised as so many complaints about BL and the "burden" for searching to find these sets.

We are getting an INCREDIBLE/INSANE bargain on these movies and box sets! How can I complain?

Nobody is forcing me to drive anywhere. Yes, my wife and I now stop at BLs as often as we can, and may even make a special trip to see what's there but we see it as FUN!! Like a treasure hunt!! Sometimes i find a few things of interest, sometimes not, sometimes I hit the "mother load".

regarding 'hoarders.'.. No, i don't like it, but we DO live in a capitalistic world.. lots of companies buy things at wholesale and sell at retail. Isn't that what BL is doing? they found a way to get these for cheap (have to be less than $3 folks!) and marking it up to $3. We all make out in this deal -BL makes money and we get a bargain.

Not everyone has a BL by them, or know about this sale. if someone buys these for $3 and sells then for $10, and the box sets normally sell for $20, then the new buyer is still getting a bargain in my opinion - just obviously no where near a bargain as people like us who follow DVDTALK!.

There are LOTs of products that you can get for a variety of prices - varies as much as 100%. Why is this situation so different? You can probably get these same movies from Amazon for 2x the amount. so is Amazon ripping off people? no.. savvy people like us find out cheaper ways to get these movies and take advantage of it. I don't see why people are hating others who take advantage of it.

If someone bought boxes of BIC pens for 5 cents from BL and sold them at a flea market for 25 cents, would we still be as upset? That's the system.

(P.s. for the record, I have never bought BL movies for resale.)

That being said, of course I am frustrated and disappointed when I get there at 10am and most of the sets I want are gone. Not sure what i can do about it except get there at 9am (like I did the other day). Seems silly (and inappropriate IMHO) to ask a BL manager NOT to sell as much as his inventory as possible as quickly as s/he can by placing restrictions on # of units just so some DVD collectors (like myself) can get some specific title we want. As much as the "DVD buyer" in me wants this, i really can't justify getting angry about this.

My local BL needs money to survive. the more DVDs they sell fast, isn't is more likely that they will continue to stock these? At least that is my perspective.

I just feel blessed to get the deals that I have gotten from this forum..I never would have thought to go to BL to look for this stuff and would have paid gobs more money at amazon, DDD, or even my local Best Buy for these same DVDs.

So THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this thread a possibility!!!

and thanks for listening!

Can we have a status update on your call progress?

To make things clear, I also really dislike hoarders who go out and buy up all of the sets and re-sell them. But their actions aren't against the law, and the stores haven't imposed a limit, so why make a big scene on here? Just keep it to yourself, and stop threatening people with what everyone sees as a joke.

All I know is that if I see some fucking fat slob at Big Lots with a cart full of Top Cat sets in his shopping cart, fists will be flying in the parking lot. There isn't a jury in the land that would convict me.

I made some rounds to BLs I rarely go to and got some more stuff (Hayes Agatha Christie set, Huckleberry Hound, etc.) but I did find one I'd not heard on the list. I got the Sacketts miniseries with Tom Selleck and Sam Elliot. The kicker was that it had a little booklet about Westerns and was labeled a "Sam's Club exclusive." Giving credence to whomever mentioned that this influx of WB stuff is from Walmart's return bin. Just FYI.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

hiding prime titles somewhere else in the store is actually a good idea, the employees wont find them and return them to the dvd section until a later time which will hopefully give someone that really wants them for themselves a better chance of getting them. if a reseller wants to comb through the whole store to hopefully find a couple of box sets that are hidden behind the boxes of corn flakes, let them! make them work for the little bit of money they are gonna make. scatter them all over the store, make them go on a scavenger hunt.

Re: Big Lots Part 6

If you're not finding any of the $3 boxsets, it's possible the store is holding them back for 7/29/2009 when the sale is supposed to start:

BL must be getting them from multiple sources.

I went to one yesterday and they had a Josie and the Pussycats set for $3. At the bottom of the package was a Best Buy sticker with a $24.99 price tag on it.
