w/e. No use trying to hide your location. So you posted something about Big Lots limiting people. How does that effect you?
Limits don't affect me in the slightest because I don't need to rush to Big Lots and buy up everything in sight then hope I can sell it on Amazon or eBay so I can feed my family. Thats what a real job is for. I do this for fun but would like to have a fighting chance to find some of the titles I want without having to arrive at the store before it opens and fight to get them like it's Black Friday. |

Does Big Lots! have a Black Friday ad? :suicide: |

No offense guy, but the last few Big Lots posts you've made make you come across like it's such a burden for you dealing with Big Lots. Maybe you'll be happier not going to Big Lots and ease yourself from this "burden".
Dealing with Big Lots is not the problem, I have shopped there off and on for years. The problem is having to make several trips a week, to multiple stores while constantly hoping that the items I want are finally in stock. The problem began when the word got out about the DVD shipments they were getting. It reminds me of the California gold rush of the 1800's when some genius finds gold and yells "there's gold in them there hills" so everybody and his brother can come with hopes of striking it rich. Personally, I would much rather order it online, plug in my credit card number and be done with it. |

Deadwood? Which season? What price?
Have any other HBO titles been found at BL? I don't recall seeing any. Lucky Louie The Mind of the Married Man The Comeback 1st and Ten I think there were a few others but I don't recall which. All I've seen in the current $3 titles is: Tracey Takes On Tales from the Crypt This doesn't mean there aren't others out there. If DEADWOOD shows up here it would be the icing on the cake! :) |

Are you kidding me? It doesn't take much reading to find numerous posts from people who also think it's a "burden".

Wow - Deadwood for $3? OMG. :(
I came across one lone copy of Six Feet Under today. I also saw some older HBO show from the 90s - I forgot the name of it, I think it had something to do with football, but it wasn't put out by HBO. I forgot what the name was. Some third part company released it. No Looney Tunes or PPG in some really rundown and nasty stores.. although I found TONS of Hanna-Barbera today. I mean a lot. I saw all of the titles mentioned in this thread today. Only thing I haven't physically seen are Tales From the Crypt Season 6 (since 7 hasn't been spotted by anyone), the Looney Tunes sets, and Powerpuff Girls. I think I've come across everything else. |

If you hit big lots regularly for dvds for your personal collection, I strongly suggest getting friendly with the managers. I have gotten friendly with several lately, and the managers at 2 locations in my area have agreed that regular customers that want the sets for personal use and not being able to get them because of the resellers scooping everything up is bullshit, and have started a policy of no more than 2 of any given title per person. I am sure that this is left up to the perogitive of each individual manager to dictate store policy such as this, and I have praised both of these managers for thier decision and told them that on exceptional bargains such as this they are well within thier rights to limit quantities. I assume that if more customers complain, other managers will follow suit. after all, once the availability of incredible deal of box sets dries up, it is the customers that buy for thier own collections that will still be there buying other discs that are still a good deal, but not quite a big a value. these "resellers" will prob be long gone at that point.

just be glad you found whatever you did. Some people have gotten jack from this. I myself have traveled way out of my way to other Big Lots locations. I have one about 15 minutes away from me. Next closest one is almost an hour drive. I went to about 9 stores that were an hour to 2 hours away from my house. Yes, it was a pain..but it paid off to even find one set I hadnt found at another store.
Honestly, I can't even begin to imagine what these "cheap" DVD's are costing many of us. |
Re: Big Lots Part 6
Many of the same titles showing up at Big Lots! can be found at oldies.com, for more money of course. But, if you have to have it...
http://www.oldies.com/search/keyword...ance&x=19&y=14 The Hong Kong Phooey set is only $5.95 |

I feel very fortunate to have found what I did and like you, had to travel great distances and burned a lot of gas to get it. My closest store is 30 miles away and the most distant store I have traveled to recently was nearly 100 miles away. When you do the math and add up the mileage plus the cost of a gallon of gas, not to mention maintenance, the costs add up very quickly. Especially when most of those trips yeild nothing.

My local library hits Big Lots in a big way. It seems like whenever there's a big wave of new stuff at Big Lots, almost everything shows up on the new shelf at the library. I think that's pretty cool, actually. That's putting tax dollars to the maximum use. I noticed they skipped Joey, so far, though. :) Joey Season 1: It's what's for awesome. |

Popeye '33-'38 (no comic book) Tales from the Crypt 5 & 6 (they had 1-6) Superman serials '48 & '50 Wacky Racers Johnny Quest (only one in the store) Academy Award Cartoons Flintstones 1-4 (3 & 4 were shrinkwrapped; I encourage those on the fence to purchase these sets even if they aren't wrapped. They are brand new discs. I don't put rented or used discs into my machine, but trust me, these unwrapped discs seem Okay to me) I passed on Everwood, Veronica Mars, Lois & Clark seasons 1-4 (I have them already), George Reeves in Adventures of Superman 1, 2 and 3 & 4 (I have them already) and No 5 & 6; the set I wanted, War at Home, and Top Cat. I also bought the last $6 Roots: The Next Generation (a leftover from last weekend). This is a Big Lots in the Philly area, but I don't want to be specific since resellers read these posts. Long live the Collectors! |

Re: Big Lots Part 6
I have to wonder if I will see anymore of the $3 sets around here. Only one of the three Big Lots here ever had any, and none had any $10 sets.

Re: Big Lots Part 6
Confronted a hoarder today at a local flea market....
Today I went into a local flea market that I have not been to in almost a year. There was a new stand up with all kinds of junks but also a rather large display of $5 DVDs. I start to pick through them and it turned out there were quite a few titles that I had been looking for in there. So I gather up $30.00 worth of titles and started to walk to the counter when what did I see? BOX SETS! So I walked over to them and sure though.... Flintstones, Huckleberry Hounds, Louis & Clarks, Supermans, Popeyes, Tales From The Crypts, and so on and so on... Multiple (unopened) titles of all the sets (and no others) that have been popping up at Big Lots. How much for these sets you ask? $10.00! I quickly turned around the the fat slob behind the counter and said "I see you've been to Big Lots." He answered with "What?" in a guilty tone. I then proceed to lecture him on how evil it is to hoard up all these sets and not leave anything for the collectors who drive hours out of their way only to find everything gobbled up by money hungry hoarders. He said "I have no idea what you are talking about" again in a snotty guilty way. I then walked up to the counter with my $30.00 worth of titles, plopped them down on the counter, called him an asshole and walked away. I would NEVER support a hoarder. |
