re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

As a non-member, and someone unlikely to become one, it seems to me that the 10% Cashback from Bing is better than any of the coupons available to non-members (which all seem to discount only the highest-price item in the cart). BUT, I've noticed plenty of posts in here stating people are not getting the Bing discount. Is this because they used coupons on the order and Bing doesn't work with coupons? Or is the Bing discount flat-out being denied across the board with this sale, even for those who don't use any B&N coupons? Any help appreciated!

IMHO the sequels are good mainly for the sake of novelty and don't have the enduring appeal of the original.
Spoiler:
Doinel isn't as sympathetic when he grows up to become a womanizer with model-type good looks, and towards the end the franchise shamelessly exploits is own history and also morphs into something of a bad imitation of Scenes from a Marriage.

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

Are items that are going out of stock, coming back in?

I noticed someone mentioned Last Year at Marienbad.

Is there any hope for Six Moral Tales to come back in?

If they are not oop B&N most likely will get them back in stock again. Last Year at Marienbad blu-ray has been out of stock twice and within a day or two B&N had more copies available. Since the sale still has over a week to go there is plenty of time to replenish the out of stock items before it ends.

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

Just got an e-mail that my second order is about to ship.

I may have gotten in just under the wire for Ran. It went to 2-3 day availability shortly after I ordered it yesterday afternoon, then by this morning it was gone. There is a B&N not far from my job that has it in stock according to their web site, but the e-mail confirms it is in my shipment so I am pleased.

I just ordered Ran a short time ago. It still said it was available within 2 to 3 days.

That is good to know. Since sales like this on Criterions are relatively rare, I'll bet that B&N was caught somewhat off guard by the demand, but are working to replenish their stock as fast as they can.

The only criticism I have is that OOS items are not even searchable in their database, so you can't add them to your wish list.

Yeah, I found it interesting that while 400 Blows is pretty well known the reception for the movies later in the series are quite mixed. I didn't want to just get the set for 400 Blows, a non-blu copy at that.

Pulled the trigger on the Late Ozu set today. Bought the Seven Samurai 3 disc and For All Mankind Blu-ray yesterday. Might pick up Third Man before the sale is over for $16. I love the AAA discount plus 20% coupons.

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

Dang it, you guys made me spend more money. Right after ordering 38 films from DDD. And like someone else said, I can't even remember the last time I bought any media from B&N. :-p

Picked up Criterions of:
Charade (1963)
My Man Godfrey (1936)

Acquiring those those two films has been a dilemma for me. Both are in the public domain -- free for download, or on those cheap dollar store DVDs -- but the Criterion restorations are supposed to be vastly better in terms of quality. No way I could ever justify $40 for a single "free" film, but (with a 20% coupon) I can definitely do $34 for both. Less if my 6% Fatwallet goes through as well.

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

I'm feeling really strongly about getting 3 Films by Louis Malle for only 34 dollars. I know Au revoir les enfants is a terrific film but how about the other two (Murmur of the Heart, Lacombe, Lucien), never seen them or heard much about them to be honest.

You can get around the search problem by using Google to find OOS items at B&N, and then you can easily add them to your wishlist that way.

This is one of my favorite titles. So many extra features, which are as pertinent now as ever. Urban terrorism, citizen uprisings, and ultimately the futility of brute retaliatory force...at least watch this if you don't buy it.

Interesting...it must be popping in and out of availability. I'm seeing it as unavailable again now.

First purchase at my local B&N:

Salo
Total $43

Second purchase online:
Repulsion (Blu)
The Seventh Seal (Blu)
Le Doulos
Le Deuxième Souffle

Was this out of stock? I just received my copy of Made In USA, along with 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her, from BN yesterday.

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

I have been lucky in that I have been able to use the 20% off coupon 8 times now.

With Bing however, I am hit or miss...I seem to get cashback with random orders now...there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to this. The good thing is I got the cashback ($3.60) on my most expensive order, the Antoine Doinel Boxset.

FYI: B & N have a 50% off sale on hundreds of DVDs (mostly Artisan), so I have placed some orders for a Criterion at 20% off and a less expensive film and I get the free shipping. ie: pre-ordered Ulysseus ($6.74) along with The Seventh Seal Blu-Ray ($14.39).
