re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

I really want to blind-buy the Antoine Doinel set but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I already have The 400 Blows on Blu-ray and don't want to replace/sell that. What are the odds of criterion putting out the others on Blu-ray individually at some point? Anyone want to take a guess?

The price is good, but I've never even seen the other films and am unsure as to whether or not it's worth it.

I just got that one delivered the other day. Nice looking set.

No doubt the Criterion sale is very popular since quite a few are on the current bestsellers list.

I'm kind of on the same boat except I don't have 400 Blows on Blu. I wish there was a Blu-ray box set. For now I don't really know if the rest of the movies are worth it.

Berlin Alexanderplatz is tempting, but I have never ordered from BN. I presume a big box set like this will be shipped in a sturdy box. Am I right?

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

Yesterday I checked out my local big B&N store and walked out with:

Unfaithfully Yours
Brute Force
Viridiana
Mafioso

for $52.xx including tax. They honored the two $5 coupons even though nothing on the ticket was over $20. Nice score for me!

In a different store later I picked up The Last Metro for $17.xx incl tax with a 10% off coupon. Happy early birthday to me.

In my experience, they've always used sturdy boxes with proper padding. Never yet had a problem with them.

Yes, something as big as Berlin Alexanderplatz should ship in a cardboard box. Whether it has lots of packing material around it... sometimes yes, sometimes not.

My copy of Made in USA's still scheduled to ship next week with Repulsion. They had better not bump it to August 25th. The web site says 2-3 days right now.

I pre-ordered Made in U.S.A. and 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her, and received both yesterday.

Thanks for the Made in USA updates... I was late to the preorder party on it, so I must be way down the list to receive it.

After some looking around, I'm pretty sure I'm deciding to blind buy Au revoir les enfant

Also.. I have a question, to use the 20 percent off coupons with the additional 50 percent you start off with do you have to be a B&N membership holder?

No! The coupon says for each customer, which means a membership is not required.

Since several other people here ordered Made in U.S.A., I thought I would mention this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1600104932/ref=s9_simz_gw_s0_p14_t2?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=1W3T6H6C5DZC0ZHKAWF0&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=470938631&pf_rd_i=507846

It's Darwyn Cooke's graphic novel adaptation of Richard Stark's Parker. The book just came out today, and it looks great. Made in U.S.A. was Godard's adaptation of a Parker book, but he didn't bother to secure the rights, which is why it was seldom seen in the U.S. (Stark/Westlake died in 2008). Godard also changed the gender of the main character and a whole bunch of other things, but never mind. Cooke (the creator of Justice League: The New Frontier) plans on releasing three more Parker graphic novels.

Oh wow, that is fantastic! I have a question where is this coupon though, and can I use it in store?

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

After tripping over to the B&N coupon thread, I just placed an order for the 10 Years of Rialto Pictures boxset for $61.55 shipped (20% off coupon + 5% Visa). Since I only owned two of the films in the set (Third Man, Rififi), that was a no-brainer!

Sorry it appears these are only online coupons. There are some 10% printable store coupons available you can use though that do not require a membership. You can find them all in the Barnes and Noble Coupon thread. Here's the link.

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

Used the 20% coupon plus the AAA storefront to order Made in USA and Vampyr for only $30 shipped.

This sale is gonna kill me...

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

So it looks like the reason (or one of the reasons) that the $5-off-a-$20-DVD coupon works better in-store is that the in-store sale price for $39.99 Criterions is $20.00 (rounded up), as opposed to the online sale price of $19.99 (rounded down).

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

has anyone ordered 39 STEPS from this sale? What cover did you get? I noticed they changed the cover image on the website today , now it's back to the original version (the one I want).

re: (DEAD) 50% of Criterion @ Barnes & Noble - 7/14

I accidently placed an order for Battle of Algiers while trying to work out a coupon system.. they won't let me cancel it ! Even though I called 1 minute later and even though I have 10 orders in the last few days waiting to be shipped and I can cancel most of the items in them. Outrageous !!!!!!!! On the other hand it's not like I just bought it for full price.. or that I don't want it. Just spending too much.

Damn the Antoine Doinel set is out stock! This means I'll get to pick the Late Ozu set.
