Because of The Six Million Dollar Man Movie they wanted to make.

2: Universal Studios owns the (tv footage).
1) No one owns the rights to the word "Bionic" - or any word for that matter -
and no, Jim Carrey was never the pick

if you google 'Jim Carrey bionic' there are a lot of websites out there (even supposedly quoting Carrey) that he was attached to the Six Million Dollar Man movie (bbc, mtv, etc). He may not be attached anymore, but back in 2003/2004 he seemed to be.

Both Bionic Woman and Six Million Dollar Man are available on import from the UK, in case anyone is interested.

They certainly didnt remove them for the show. They were there, but it was a network show, so they had to be covered up. Couple of scenes in tight tops, or sports bras, etc, if I remember correctly.
