Melvin and Howard (has anyone else found this one?)

I picked up "big empty" a couple of weeks back, and I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to anyone that likes offbeat comedies like "the big lebowski"

Good. I haven't seen it, so hopefully it's good. I just got it because of the cast.

I wouldn't say your going to find a bunch of anchor bay titles in the near future because the Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry box has either a Universal or Sony logo, I can't recall which because I didn't buy it. It appears to be a co-production or co-distribution deal with Anchor Bay.

This is sad because I too would like to see some Anchor Bay titles come along.

I'm actually wondering if DMCL is a shipment anomaly? I haven't seen anyone else post finding it and only one store in my area seems to have gotten them in. I saw at least 4 copies at the store where I found it and bought one.

Mr. Reindeer 06-14-09 12:07 AM

Re: Big Lots Part 4

only one store by me has DMCL out of 5.

I finally got my Ride with the Devil and swapped my floater Slither. So I might be done till a new shipment?

I've seen RwtD at 1 store... many copies
Sweet and Lowdown ws/flipper at 2 stores... many copies
Land of the Dead unrated/directors at 1 store... not many copies
Romper Stomper 2 disc at 1 store... not many copies
Gosford Park at 2 stores... many copies
Seed of Chucky at 1 store... many copies
Those hammer frankenstien discs at three stores...not many copies

That's what I recall off the top of my head.

Riverside store, on Tyler Ave. right off the 91. they were in a $3 display only one level in height. I was there on the 12th. Land of the Dead was @ that store too.

Found Doctor Detroit at the Aston, PA store. However, I don't recall seeing other copies. Still hunting for Wise Guys and City of Lost Children.

A blind buy, First Look's Meet Bill, with Aaron Eckhart, Jessica Alba & Elizabeth Banks. I couldn't pass up a plastic slipcover, and great cast, but know nothing about the film.

Picked up one of these too, just because of the nice physical presentation of the dvd. Haven't seen it yet, but I liked the premise. Can anyone else chime in?

Surprisingly, I liked the movie a lot. Oddball kinda story at times that didn't make me lose my interest one bit. I went into it with low expectations which may have helped, but in the end, I highly recommend it.

Bit of a fish-out-of-water movie. Fortunately the actors are much better than the material they're given to work with. So it's not awful but not better than OK either.

Saw these at my store today.

$2 titles:
- Melvin and Howard

$3 titles:
- Stranger than Fiction

I passed on some of the Universal titles because they were the full-screen editions. The one title that I actually wanted to buy in full-screen, THE BREAKUP, was only available at BL in widescreen. Somedays ya just can't win.

Picked up the two pack of People Under the Stairs and Shocker for $6 today. Nothing else caught my eye. Mixture of stock from a few weeks ago and a newer one but nothing to note of that hasn't already been mentioned.

If you can find the OOP WS/FS flipper, the one side is anamorphic.

Anamorphic refers to being enhanced for widescreen tv's(no pillarboxing), the ratio can be of many sizes and still be enhanced, ie. 1.66:1, 1.78:1(16x9), 1.85:1, 2.35:1, 2.40:1, etc.

Thanks for clearing it up darkhawk, I also picked up the flipper yesterday, guess I can open it now.

Picked up "Disorderlies". I'm glad I waited. I found a couple copies which were not slashed; virgins. I also bought (with slipcover) "Gosford Park". It's odd, for the longest time I thought the movie was called Gossamer Park.

Question. Today I saw a single copy of "Duel". I already own the DVD. Those who have found it at their local stores. Did any of them have their original slipcover? I would rebuy the movie for that.

hasslein 06-17-09 01:38 AM

Re: Big Lots Part 4

^ I've seen several copies of Duel at different locations, all without slipcover. I'm kicking myself for not getting that cover as well, it's really cool with the raised "bumper" lettering.

I purchased a lot of the titles that Drake found in the Boston area at one of our local Ohio stores as well.

The James Bond series was $4 each last year but are now $3 each.

I also found "Broken Lance" with Spencer Tracy along with "Buffalo Bill", "The Bravados" and "Forty Guns".

Plus, I got the John Wayne - Sophia Loren "Legend of the Lost" disc. That's one MGM release I've not found at Big Lots before.

Spotted a minor restock in Springfield NJ. Several copies of "White Noise" (the Michael Keaton orig.), but I passed cos they were all FF. ...Yet I grabbed "Last Time I Committed Suicide" despite it being FF (that's the only way it was released, plus they only had one copy). I also grabbed "Doctor Faustus". Strange but interesting 1967 oddity starring Richard Burton & Liz Taylor (who has nary a line of dialogue, but wears several different shades of body paint!).

It's not the collectors edition , in very small print (can hardly read it) it says 2005.
