Looks like I'm checking BL for The Burbs and Demon Knight tomorrow

Re: Big Lots Part 4

those looking for "demon night" and "bordello of blood", if you look around at some of the online stores, there is a double feature of the 2 films on 1 disc available at a very reasonable price (under 10 bucks I am sure). I own a copy and both films are in animorphic widescreen. I love off-beat b-movies and I must say, "bordello of blood" is a hoot, dennis miller is hilarious in it.

I saw this new display at the Derry store yesterday. I wouldn't call it HUGE though, it was the same 2 tier cardboard display. Universal (no UPC scratches) and Warner (UPC scratches) titles were in the mix, and a few Sony's too.

Also saw...
Universal:
Arabian Nights
8 Mile
Bustin' Loose
The Jackal
Ride With The Devil
The Last Time I Committed Suicide (FS/non OAR)
For Love Of The Game

Sony:
The Last Time
An Evening w/ Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder

Bandai anime:
Flag (Vol. 1, 2, 3 and 4)
Zegapain (Vol.2)

Frighteners is the old version, not the newer Director's Cut

also, you might be able to find some of these titles (and older BL titles) at Shaws/Osco stores for $3.99.
This week I found:
Grizzly Man $3.99
The Thin Blue Line (missed getting this last summer at BL)

Yes to both. I amended my previous post to reflect that.

Just got back from BL, as I was there they were putting out a bunch of new titles But totally different than those that have been mentioned
I picked up :

The Dark Crystal- Collectors edition with collectibles inside
The Missing (widescreen special edition) 2 disc set
Private Parts
Novocaine $2

other titles I saw were Basic Instinct 2,Critical Mass,Casino Royale 2 disc Full screen,XXX - state of the union,The Piano (FS) plus a bunch of other stuff I can't even remember.

darkhawk 06-01-09 12:04 PM

Re: Big Lots Part 4

Found:

Tremors 2, 3 & 4 (3 & 4 are Anamorphic)
Josie and the Pussycats PG13 version (BL had 3 of them. They also had the PG versions.)
Honey
Skulls 3
Casual Sex
The House of Sand (starring Fernanda Montenegro)

The Last Time I Committed Suicide, it's FS at Big Lots. Was it made in FS only? Because IMDB doesn't list its OAR.

I had just bought Tremors 1 - 4 Franchise movie pack. All Anamorphic for $14.99 at Best Buy. Still a good deal for getting 1 & 2 anamorphic.

Like I did with The Wiz, I'll pass on The Frightners and Xanadu to get the newer anamorphic SE versions.

If anyone is looking for Grizzly Man, I have an extra one. Go to the BL exchange forum.

The Last Time I Committed Suicide was unfortunately only released in FS on R1 DVD (dunno about other areas of the world), which is why I never bothered to grab this. I already have the LVD of it (also FS). If I happen to spot the DVD for $3 I may just grab it because it's a great film....tho this is NJ, so I highly doubt I'll see it. :(

[QUOTE=darkhawk;9477671]Found:

Josie and the Pussycats PG13 version (BL had 3 of them. They also had the PG versions.)

I have been looking for a copy of the full theatrical version, but everytime I see a copy it is the one that says "edited for family viewing"

I picked up one of the PG13 versions at my local BL today. The PG version "edited for family viewing' is Full Screen and the PG13 is Widescreen and says Widescreen at the top of the front cover. I went to Amazon.com to look at the different versions and they incorrectly show the WS PG13 cover for both versions but the technical details are correct for the PG FF version. From what I've read the differences in content are pretty minor, but I wanted the WS version.

I was checking on this myself before I opened it. The review here on dvdtalk is clear that's it's P&S, so I'm returning it myself.

...and just to confirm that I also saw Josie and the Pussycats in unedited PG13 version in the Derry store too, so they are out there for anyone looking.

Just got back from a lunch time trip to the BL on the north side of town. Picked up:

Barry Lyndon
Eros
Going in Style
(not on the Warner master list)
Brainstorm
The White Countess
Ten Little Indians

I also saw Battleground and Truffaut's Day for Night in snappers (also not on the master list). They also had a half dozen To Sir with Love. I may run back up there to get Best Foot Forward (which I've just found out has been discontinued by WHV.)

BTW, how can you tell which version of Barry Lyndon is which?

CD Universe is showing that the old version is letterboxed and the new version is full screen.

Re: Big Lots Part 4

^^The first release (1999) is in a snapper case and has the words "Stanley Kubrick Collection" in a blue band across the top of the case w/o the wording "Digitally restored and remastered".

Next was the 2001 release, with the blue band and the wording "Digitally restored and remastered" added below the "Kubrick" line. I think this was also in a snapper case.

The most recent (2007) is in a keep case and has no blue banner/wording across the top.

All have the release date in the "program content" blurb on the back of the case. One "review" I read had this to say about the "new" release:

"...the package art now carries a 2007 date, the disc inside is the same as the 2001 release. It is NOT anamorphically enhanced. In fact, the files on the DVD are dated 2001, so it literally is the exact DVD release in 2001 - the menu is the same as well. The only difference is this comes in a keep case rather than a snapper case."

So it appears there's no true difference if this is correct. And all disks indicate "widescreen" with a 1.66/1 aspect ratio.

even though the difference may be minor, I wouldnt want anything that is edited from the original version, on general principles.

Found a new shipment at Big Lots today myself! I didn't have time to go through all of them, but I did grab:

The Pianist
Postcards From The Edge
Casual Sex
Duel (CE)

Gonna have to go back before the weekend and look through the rest. I did see Apollo 13 (2-disc) but the discs were loose so that was a no-buy. Thanks to everybody for the heads-up on the new stuff! :)

I just found Universal's:

The People Under the Stairs / Shocker 2-pak

It's the 2 discs in one keepcase version. It's still $6. It also has a slip sleeve on it.

Major restock here! Lots of "previously reported" titles, several "new to here" 2-paks, lots of new singles, and nothing I've been on the lookout for... but I Picked up:

THX 1138 (2 disc) (slashed UPC, but not bad - WB)
Ray (Uni)
Apollo 13 (2 disk) (Uni)
A Beautiful Mind (2 disk) (Uni)

Last 3 have a blank sticker over the UPC, no slashes.
