The $9.99 sets at my Walmart in Mississippi weren't anywhere NEAR sold out--there were there one day and gone the next, quite literally. I mistakenly thought that the cheap season set section would be staying a while. If I'd known that they were going to pull it so quickly, I would have bought a few seasons. While there are some good bargains to be had in the $14.99 display, all of the series are pretty recent...which wasn't the case with the $9.99 display.

I just assumed that the $9.99 sets were sold out, for they could of also been pulled to make way for the $14.99 sets. Maybe Big Lots will buy them from Walmart and hopefully sell the $9.99 sets for $5 or $3 or maybe if we are lucky, the Dollar Tree chain will buy them and sell them for $1.

There was a Vincent Price Horror Collection of 4 movies in the $5 bin, but the case doesn't designate widescreen of full screen. Movies are Pit and the Pendulum, Tales of terror, Masque of the Red Death and Madhouse. Does anyone know if these are in widescreen and worth buying?

Pit, Tales, and Masque are all anamorphic widescreen; Madhouse is widescreen, but not anamorphic. If you've already got the MGM Midnite Movies releases of these, the only bump in quality comes with Pit.

All are worth seeing, with Pit and Masque being true classics. Madhouse...not so much, but still pretty fun.

I'll have to be on the lookout for that Vincent Price collection. Sounds like a great deal.

FWIW, Shout Factory will be releasing the Price titles as a Blu-Ray box set later this year. It won't be $5, but if you'd rather have then in Blu, they'll be available soon.

I was surprised to find Fun Size in the $5 bin today. I didn't buy it, but I checked to see that it was scanning at $5. It only came out of DVD in February, but I'm thinking it might have been the Walmart exclusive version, which has a different cover and a VUDU copy (I think).

It was.

The Blu-Ray of that is down to $15 now too. It was pretty expensive for a while (over $20) and hard to find as well.

I came across this display and was wondering about the Fringe: 4th season Blu-ray set for $19.96 in it. Originally that BD set came with an UltraViolet digital copy code, but Walmart's special packaging makes no mention of it. Did WB strip out the UV copy for Walmart in this pressing?

There are some titles selling for $3.98.

I want to say I was taking notes.

But I didn't.

I did however pick up "Grand Prix: Two - Disc Special Edition" for that price (blind buy). What I can say is that the selection is very limited, just a few movies. This was in the rack area, not inside the famous/infamous bin.

They were mostly Warner 2 Disc Special Editions. I picked up Grand Prix as well.

The closest Walmart to me (17/92 Sanford FL) has the worst DVD stocking I have ever seen. They changed one side of the Blue Ray wire rack to bargain TV sets. The first time most of the sets were $9.99. They never had all of the slots filled before it changed over to the new assortment. After several weeks maybe only 30% of the titles marked on the rack are actually there. Same with the other side. A bunch of steel books with same artist rendered covers. Most titles not available. I did find a new $5 dump bin with an eclectic assortment of titles. Some zombie films. Dolemite and Disco Godfather. IP Man and Legend of the Fist. There were also two different Dragon Dynasty double features. There was another dump that must have been for Father's day. Several movies from Elvis, Clint Eastwood and John Wayne for $4 each. Picked up The Shootist and The Searchers. The newest Conan was in the regular $5 dump bin.

I saw Mirrors/Mirrors 2 collection in the $5 bin. Mirrors 2 is a flipper with Into the Mirror, which is the Korean film that Mirrors is a remake of.

I came across a $5 Into the Blue/Into the Blue 2 double feature on the shelves today and bought it. I have Into the Blue on bluray but have wanted to see the sequel for a while.

I visited Walmart in Bechtelsville,Penna. on Monday August 5,2013 and noticed a Kiddie Movie display of about 3 large cardboard boxes of movies for $3.00 each on a header adjacent to the DVD area.

They had the usual animation fare but also included about 10 different double feature older movies from the 70's on up featuring humans.

I purchased the double feature "Mary White" 1977 with Kathleen Beller and "Wind Dancer" 1993 with Mel Harris for $3.00 which I enjoyed watching. There are perhaps 8 to 10 different double features for $3.00 each which comes out to $1.50 a movie.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I just got back from my local Walmart in central Mississippi, where I saw a new $5 DVD display/dump bin with some of the usual suspects from the last few "special buy" dump bins (mostly stock from Timeless Media Group) along with some new titles from MPI Home Video. Among the MPI titles were several of the Basil Rathbone Sherlock Holmes series in double-features (such as THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES / PURSUIT TO ALGIERS, THE HOUSE OF FEAR / THE PEARL OF DEATH, and SHERLOCK HOLMES FACES DEATH / SHERLOCK HOLMES IN WASHINGTON), HATCHET II, and two that I picked up, DR. HORRIBLE'S SING-ALONG BLOG and the original TRILOGY OF TERROR with the late Karen Black. There didn't seem to be more than 2 or 3 copies of each disc in the bin, so your mileage will most probably vary.

Thanks for posting about the Sherlock Holmes. My local wm didn't have any but I found all 5 mpi double features at one in a nearby town. I love Basil Rathbone Sherlocks.

My local Walmart has a new display of Warner Brothers box sets, with everything on the display marked at $39.99. There's also a lot of signage on the display reminding shoppers that layaway is back and available. Among the sets that I saw were ROOTS: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION, 2O FILM COLLECTION: BEST PICTURES, 20 FILM COLLECTION: MUSICALS, 20 FILM COLLECTION: THRILLERS, 20 FILM COLLECTION: COMEDY, 20 FILM COLLECTION: ROMANCE, SCOOBY-DOO, WHERE ARE YOU?: THE COMPLETE SERIES, and the two real mega-bargains, CLINT EASTWOOD: 35 FILMS/35 YEARS AT WARNER BROTHERS, and THE COMPLETE LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION.

Click on any of the titles above to take you to their Amazon product pages for more details.

Would pick up that Looney Tunes Golden Collection if i found it.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I'd buy the Looney Toons also for $40. The only other one I think is a great deal is 2O FILM COLLECTION: BEST PICTURES; the rest have too many mediocre recent films (to me recent is 70's- current; I'm old) for my liking. IMO, most mainstream USA films went way downhill after the 50's (perhaps even after the 40's). I'm also not a musical fan, but that isn't a bad collection either.

Too bad they're not honoring the sale prices online.

My closest Wal-Mart has several titles for less in-store than at the site.

Arrow S1 for $29.96.
Terra Nova S1 for $9.96
Entourage S8 for $9.96.
And a lot more TV series from the 80's, like 2-3 Seasons of MacGyver for $9.96.
