Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Since some WB 2-disc editions are popping up, has anyone seen The Green Mile by any chance?

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Local Walmart here did not have the WB setup, just a few copies of the first TARZAN quad pack for $9.96. That was the only one I could find.

I picked up the Mill Creek/Columbia double feature Blu of SHIP OF FOOLS/LILLITH. Hope they come out with more of these doubles of catalog titles.

Went to the American Canyon, CA store yesterday. Didn't see that there.

They had for $3:

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
Unforgiven
Heat
300
Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves

Can't remember what else. It was on an endcap in their Electronics section.

They also had a huge endcap of all the TCM (Turner Classic Movies) 4-Packs that were all around $9.99.

Even though I'm mainly blu, I had to pick up some of these SE's for 3 bucks a piece. Thanks.

Cabbage or anyone else have you watched Shamus and is it presented in it's correct aspect ratio ?, just got back from Walmart and the back of the artwork read
Shamus -

I already own this on DVD , and I'am pretty sure it's Full screen.

Saw the $3 Warners sets at one of my local stores.

No sign of the TCM sets, though. Really want the Katharine Hepburn and Jean Harlow sets.

Saw the TCM sets at the Keeaumoku St. location (Honolulu), as well as the $3 titles on an endcap. Also found Battle Royale for $5 in the Asian films section, which I purchased.

Saw the $3 sets at Pasadena, Tx Fairmont
Saw the TCM sets at Pasadena, TX Southmore
Saw the Mill Creek double features at Deer Park, Tx

Most of these had the 7.88 display with movie cash, though Sherlock 2 was sold out at most.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I don't know if these have been spotted, but just for reference: The Burt Lancaster and Doris Day sets include four separate original release discs with all the extras. They are incredible bargains given that some of the individual titles are OOP. Amazon used to have the wrong listings for these as having only 2 discs inside like most of the quad sets.

Does anyone know if there are any others with four discs included?

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Wow, I just picked up the Lancaster set for Seven Days in May being OOP and because I had always wanted to see Executive Action. I'll have to open it up and check mine, but had no idea that any of these would contain 4 original printed discs.

Largely, the TCM sets take four films from the actor or director's respective Signature or other boxset. Some are so discounted (Stewart, Brando, Hepburn-Tracy etc.) that the box set is only a few dollars more. Others are steals with OOP titles or just $10 repackages of expensive sets. I couldn't resist the two new Bogart packs with box set exclusive titles gone OOP and to fill in my last gaps instead of having to plunk down for the OOP error filled Ultimate box.

But whoever arranged these and all the other studio multi-feature reissues should have their head examined.

EDIT: All three TCM sets I purchased-Lancaster, Bogart, Bogart gangsters set-have four original individual discs as from their original releases on a single four-tiered holder in the case. Is this how all the new sets are being done? Nice for those of us who got tired of smudged flippers.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

According to listings at Amazon, it looks like many of the gold box and newer black box sets have four discs inside and not the flippers, which make these a steal. Unfortunately, not all of them are without flippers, e.g. the Harlow gold box set is only two discs.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Finally saw the TCM sets in the Latham NY store...

Sucks that the Harlow set is flippers, but for $9.96, I'll bite. Will definitely grab the Hepburn set and probably the Thin Man set if the display is still up in two weeks.

I came in late & don't want to read a bunch of pages! Is this the TCM Harlow you're talking about?

Finally got around to picking up "Heroes". always wanted to see that show but never got around to it. WM has complete season sets 1-4 repackaged in smaller cases for $8.96/season. Picked up all 4 for $37.00 and change. Well worth it IMO.

LOL you might regret that by the time the 4th season rolls around.

Yeah I've heard all the stuff about the series going slowly downhill over the 4 seasons but for the price I paid, and since I wanted to always see it, I'll judge for myself! Not concerned at all but thanks for the well known info-

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

I used to find the 4-film TCM sets on the 2-for-$10 racks at Entertainment Outlet in Manhattan, but those stores are both closed now. Sadly, there's no Wal-Mart in New York and won't be for some time given the anti-business political climate here. And I don't have a car that could take me out of town to a Wal-Mart elsewhere.

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

Amazon seems to be price-matching these sets at $10.99. It's a buck more than Walmart, but with tax, gas, etc. it still works out.

Finally picked up the Jean Harlow TCM set and pleasantly surprised to discover four individual DVDs inside. Also pleasantly surprised to see the display still up-it's been over a month.

Some Midnite Movies Vincent Price site-to-store bargains:
5 movies for $9
ip/17805604
Tomb of Ligeia double for $3
ip/2310622
Oblong Box/Scream and Scream Again for $3

They also had The Haunted Palace/Tower of London for $3 but I think it's out of stock.

Can't post links, put walmart dot com slash in front of the ips above.

Not a bargain, but Samson & Delilah is in Easter section (it is not supposed to be out until mid March) $13.97

Re: Wal-Mart Bargains Thread #2

^Hmmmm.... It's $13.86 at Amazon. A WM purchase would cost me ~$15 after tax... tempting to purchase from WM and see if Amazon drops it any more.

EDIT - They didn't have it here yet. That Easter section hasn't yet been put in place.

They *did* have an Academy Award display with ~$10 BR and $7.50 DVDs. Nothing really stood out (probably due to me already owning those I'd purchase).

Samson & Delilah is in Easter section is in Easter section
I'll see if I can find this at my local store, I'm curious. Though it sounds like a song "Samson & Delilah And Their Brother Sunset Sam".

Damn, looked it up on Amazon, zero extras.
