Heads-up: This set rocketed in price shortly after the above post, and has consistently stayed in the high price range. But now it's back down to 80% off! Snag it now if you are interested. I purchased it along with the following:

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy : Complete BBC Series
The Eric Rohmer Collection - 8 Disc Box Set
Claude Chabrol - 8 Disc Box Set
State Of Play : Complete BBC Series 1

A total of 31 discs for $100 shipped... not bad. Very happy to get the W.C. Fields set for so cheap.

Thanks for info

First time order from Amazon UK.I'm sure some of the sets will go down in price sooner or latter,no biggie.

I'm hard of hearing so I hope I can understand (yeah right) some of the movies or TV shows that don't have subtitles or CC.

I'm looking into a website that you can download subtitles too,Not quite sure how it works.subtitles.com I think it was called.

1 "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy : Complete BBC Series [1979] [DVD] £6.58
1 "The Eric Rohmer Collection - 8 Disc Box Set [DVD]£19.10
"State Of Play : Complete BBC Series 1 [2003] [DVD] £3.98
1 "Claude Chabrol [DVD] £11.29
1 "Jekyll : Complete BBC Series 1 [2007] [DVD] £3.46
1 "Hanzo The Razor (3 DVD Special Edition Box Set) (UNCUT) [1972]" £8.68
1 "W.C. Fields Collection [DVD] [1932]" £12.16
1 "Female Prisoner Scorpion Trilogy [DVD] [1972]£9.55
1 "The Good, The Bad And The Weird [Blu-ray] [2008]" £7.98

About $185 US including shipping.

The JCVD from the UK looks like its 93 min (Region: 2)
While the one from states is 97 min Region: 1
My guess is the Uk cuts more out of the movies it releases .

I wonder what they cut out of it.The first time I ordered some DVD's from the Uk was last week.I was about to order Mad Max II on Blu-ray,but I noticed it was about 5 minutes shorter then the one I already own.I hate censorship in movies.

Also I never thought I would watch A newer Jean-Claude Van Damme movie, but I heard this one is pretty good.

PAL speed-up? Seems about right, since it's 4%. For me, makes PAL DVDs unwatchable.

It is PAL speed up. It makes the films about 4% shorter since PAL runs at 25 fps and NTSC runs at 24fps.

Amazing, isn't it?

Orders from Amazon UK usually arrive faster than my orders from Amazon US.

Thanks and wow,I never new of the different speeds.
As this is my first ordered from Amazon Uk,and I don't believe I own any
Region: 2 disc yet.

Also this will come in very handy when ordering again from overseas.
I'm reading up on PAL speeds right now.

thanks again.

Sorry I missed this thread. I hope that everyone continues to update with the latest deals. I've ordered a fair amount from Amazon UK and have had good shipment times and great prices.

If only their packaging were worth a crap. They stack up the items and wrap a piece of cardboard around them... it isn't even a proper box. I've had more damaged goods from them in six months than I got from Amazon US in six years.

I don't own it, but several folks I trust on another board claim it's region free.

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains

FYI, I can confirm that the UK Woodstock DVD is 4 discs & includes all Amazon AND Target bonus material; & is a steal at the current price of 10 pounds!

Is all the bonus material also on the Blu-ray?

Question: Will a PAL Blu-Ray play on a normal US TV set (like normal PAL DVDs will play with an all region DVD player)?

Re: Amazon UK Box Set Bargains

I might be out of the loop on this one, but I don't think any Blu-ray players play both NTSC and PAL. AFAIK, there is no "region free" Blu-ray player. I did see rumors of one, so you might want to check the HD forum.

I believe that PAL Blu-rays don't have the 4% speed-up that PAL DVDs have.

However, special features that have just been ported over from the DVD might be unplayable if, for example, you're playing a Region B Blu-ray on a Region A player (many discs are not actually region-locked), since the special features would have been formatted in PAL or NTSC, depending on the DVD Region, and an NTSC Blu-ray player won't be able to display PAL content.

set things straight, the Woodstock BluRay is region free, and all extras are in NTSC.
the DVD of Woodstock is in PAL only, for Region 2

You also need to be careful if you are using a PS3 with the current firmware. I ordered Being Human (a UK television series) on Blu-ray a few weeks ago. It's region free, but there can be PAL content in the opening screens before the menu. The PS3 used to pass over this, but it goes to an error screen now (Error 80029946). I believe this started with firmware 2.7. The PS3 is now on version 2.8, but it's still not fixed. I can't get to the menu or the episodes on the BD.

I loaned the BD set to a friend, and it plays fine on his Panasonic BD player. I've heard that the issue is causing problems with other titles also. I read that some people are having problems with the Australian import of Match Point. It played fine before the firmware update to 2.7 or 2.8. Now it doesn't.

There is a hacked file out there for the Oppo. I can not confirm IF it works, or if it's already been defeated.

I've heard others state that also. Could you explain how Blu-Ray got around that?

You are correct on the DVD: R2 & PAL.
