Huge HD-DVD Sale at Borders.com
 

Borders is apparently dumping their HD-DVD inventory. I can't post a link b/c I don't have 15 total posts as of yet, but if you go to borders.com then dvd then HD-DVD format you can see them. Their individual movies seem to all be under $10 but their seasons and boxed sets are the real bargains. Here are a few:

Sopranos Season 6 Part 1 : $8.89

People in hd bargains thread seem to be reporting that their orders are being canceled for the sets.

Mine hasn't been cancelled yet, but I was afraid of that

Well that's retarded. Who would have thought. An HD DVD order being canceled.

Only Borders. :lol: That's the only way they're going to sell these sets anyway. If they are over $10, I'm waiting for them to go on sale on Blu-ray.

Btw, navigating their site is just insane.

Deal is still there and I am able to put those title on my cart and complete my order. I am going to go ahead hand give it a try if they cancel my order I wont be loosing anything. You can not get these sets any cheaper on any other format. Thanks for the heads up.

And I thought I'd have my first real HD DVD bargain find. Ugh! Thousands of these discs produced and not sold and the only place to really find them is ebay?!

Still wondering if it was worth hanging onto my player and the few discs I have. I should really take it off my projector and use it upstairs for it's main worth: An upconverting dvd player. Sigh.

DAMN.. I thought I was done with my DVD purchases for awhile.

I'd be surprised if any of these orders go through, unless you got in on it very early. Backorders don't help since it is highly unlikely that Borders will be able to get more stock to fill these (especially at these prices)

They may have yanked some of the box sets, but still 153 HD-DVDs listed on their site, many at $9-10:

And in a nice coincidence, Sellout-Woot is again offering the Venturer HD-DVD Player with 2 HD-DVD movies for $44.99 (+ $5 ship):

HD-DVD just won't go away.maybe in another year or 2 we can see these deals gone.

I have to agree. Why can't retailers just BUST A FUCKIN' MOVE and sell all of their HD DVD stock for a few bucks.

Over 22 years after the last CED videodiscs were produced, there are STILL lots of unsold, still-sealed discs out there. The same will probably happen with HD-DVD- speculation when the format died was that companies would destroy them for a tax write-off, but looks like that hasn't happened. It remains to be seen how collectible these will get, I'm buying them just because I collect failed formats (I've got a few D-VHS movies too, still trying to find a player.)

Picked up Planet Earth for $9.90....awesome deal, hard to pass up.

Ordered the sopranos though they have cancelled them for other people.
I had already received battlestar gallactica for the same price from inetvideo.

I don't understand why they would cancel, inetvideo and now frys has and have had similar or lower prices so it is not like these prices came out of the sky.

Any good recommendations for a cheap HD DVD player? I was thinking about grabbing one of the Xbox 360 ones if I can find it.

Thanks, my first woot! I was mad at myself for passing on this when buy.com had these for $54 in the summer. Now I got a slightly better deal... W00T!!!

yes, woot is very reliable. I'm considering picking it up. Kind of ironic actually. My A2 died a couple months ago, would not read a disc. I got pissed off and kick the crap out of it, hoping to knock some sense into it. still didn't read any disc (HD or SD). Last night, on a whim, I toss in Zodiac, and it works. So now I'm not sure if I should buy this one or not...

just get emails from Border my order is cancelled due to availability (I placed order last night)... oh well...

I don't think they were ready to handle all this.

I just tried logging into my account on borders.com and:
"We're sorry. This feature is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later."

If they want to be rid of these hd-dvds, they should comp us by giving us all the ability to at least buy one of their regular discs for 5 bucks with free shipping and handling. 10 bucks for the regular hd-dvds is way too much to pay, and I wish them luck in selling them off for that price!

My order also got cancelled, I was left with some fillers I added to get the free Ship. Does anyone know how to cancel the order beside emailing/calling them?

If they're really out of all of these sets then they need to hire a monkey to take them off of the site.

Ordered 3 movies last night, wasn't appearing in the order status they sent in the email for the longest time... just checked again and it appears to have gone through... still listed as back ordered though

My order are all listed as backordered. However, if you try to search for any HD DVDs, you come up empty. They've removed them all, as per BigNathanB's request. ;)

I called to inquire about what "backordered really means for an item that is discontinued. The rep said that they probably won't be getting any more in.
