Re: Big Lots Update Part 3
Really a tossup. I went with "Stooges on the Run" because it's in bold on the spine. "The Three Stooges" on the spine is a smaller version of the logo on the front.

Today I got:
THX 1138: 2 Disc
Little Caesar
The Public Enemy
Has anyone seen White Heat or Angels with Dirty Faces there? Those are the other two I really want out of the Warner Gangsters set.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3
Anyone happen to already own Diamond Men and can confirm whether or not it is anamorphic?
Neither the DVDTalk nor the DVDTown reviews state definitively. There is a customer review on Amazon that I read as implying it might be anamorphic but then seems to suggest they might have zoomed a non-anamorphic transfer.
It was a 2003 DVD release and by then Lionsgate typically did use the 16x9 widescreen wording to specify when something is anamorphic but I'm hoping for one of the occasional oversights in this case.

Diamond Men is anamorphic, but in some scenes the framing looks tight.
I did read the review on Amazon and the reader implies that the DVD was made from the VHS copy.
I did not see the movie in the theatre and I don't have a VHS copy to compare. I did not see any cut off heads and the titles that popped up from time to time, like "Week 1" looked to be in the right place.
For only $1.60 the Diamond Men DVD is a wonderful, small budget, independent production.

Petrified Forest was in the first Warner Bros batch from a month or two ago.
Little Caesar, Public Enemy are in the current Warner Bros batch now in stores.
I guess White Heat and Angels with Dirty faces will be in a future Warner Bros batch of dvds? We will have to wait and see....

I picked up 12 titles today. One Sony/Columbia title I haven't seen mentioned yet: The Whole Wide World with Renee Zellweger.

Hit both Big Lots here in town and saw a little bit of new stock (I think somebody beat me to it this time). Armed with the 20% coupon, I lowered my standards a little bit to pick up 21 new titles at $2 each. Two of the titles I don't see on the master list (both New Line w slashed barcodes):
The Butterfly Effect 2
Son of the Mask

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3
Well, it serves me right for whining. The Mall 205 store finally got a shipment in of the 4/$10 titles. They'd been pretty well picked through by the time we got there (stopped in to look at something else entirely), but we did manage to get the following:
National Velvet
Truman (Gary Sinise)
One Day in September (story of Munich Olympics nightmare)
I Am a Fugitive From a Chain Gang (hubby wasn't sure about this one, but he's been getting into noir again)
Quidam (Cirque du Soleil)
Every Time We Say Goodbye (Tom Hanks)**
Hubby also picked up one of those multi-disc WWII "documentary" sets.
After the coupon (and even with a few other items in the basket), our total was less than $22!
** Not on the list. Should go under Columbia/Tri-Star.

Still not a great selection at the Big Lots near me. None of the Warner titles like THX-1138, Pan's Labyrinth, or Superman II have shown up yet. They have been adding more HBO titles, though.
For $10, I picked up:
Bill Maher: Be More Cynical
Bill Maher: New Rules
American Splendor
Music From Another Room (for my gf)
Had trouble finding a fourth DVD for $1.
When I go back in a couple of weeks, I'm hoping they'll have THX-1138 2D. Usually takes them about a month or so to get out the new stock everyone else gets.

Speaking of the Bill Maher stuff, I was really glad that I was able to stumble across Be More Cynical. I really enjoy his standup stuff and New Rules was a disappointment to me. I never watch his show(s) on HBO or Showtime or whatever and didn't realize the New Rules dvd was just a compilation of a scripted, Andy Rooney-esque segment on his show and not standup material.

I'm happy I finally looked in this thread! I had no clue there was even Big Lots in my area. Found 3 within 6 miles. I picked up:
Capturing The Friedmans 2 disc
Bucket Of Blood
Rebel Without A Cause 2 disc
Hudson Hawk SE
Brick
Cutting Class -- some B-horror movie with a young Brad Pitt
Gothika 2 disc SE
The New World
Brewster's Millions
Dirty Work
Intermission
Up And Down -- a strange looking Czech movie from a few years back

They had only one small 4-sided cardboard display with very limited titles. Anyway, today I grabbed:
Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles : The Klendathu Campaign
Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles : The Zephyr Campaign
We Don't Live Here Anymore
Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus (Nicole Kidman, Robert Downey Jr)
One Day in September

Picked up a second copy of Darkman II, the first copy had a big black dot painted over the barcode. The second copy without the dot did not have an insert card, so I'm assuming if you want the insert card, you have to get one with the dot. Just an FYI for those that care about such things.

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3
Do not pass up Sam Fuller's "Big Red One: The Reconstuction." The added footage (:47) vastly improves the picture. I saw this in a screening back in 1980 and frankly didn't enjoy the film. And more Lee Marvin (all-world as a WWII Sgt) is always welcome. Best $3 ($2.50?) you'll spend this year.

Used the 20% off coupon to pick some titles up today, but had to put "Jawbreaker" back because I saw it was Full Screen. Is there a Widescreen version mixed in there too, or should I not bother to search?

I have seen many copies of Jawbreaker. All fullscreen. Anyone find a WS/FS flipper?

Re: Big Lots Update Part 3
Did find We Don't Live Here, though, which was nice.
Also saw two Roughnecks at a used DVD place. I suspect someone bought them from Big Lots and sold them there.
Well. Or stole them from big lots. Whichever.
Jerks. I actually wanted those!
(maybe they got them somewhere else though, hopefully)

Found a display that looked like the same stuff that was there a month ago, but upon closer inspection I came away with:
Action: The Complete Series
Bright Lights, Big City
EDtv
Reality Bites
Sleepwalkers
Sneakers
THX 1138
The Wiz
All blind buys for me, though I have some vague memories of seeing some of The Wiz when I was a kid.
