Ordered a bunch of these yesterday, all were marked out of stock when I ordered but when I got the confirmation email it looks like about half will actually ship this week.

Was at Fry's in Sacramento today and they had Black Xmas and Pulse down to $5.99, The River was $7.99 so there may be some more price drops coming. I have The River on CED since I collect dead formats, so I'll have to watch that to see if it's any good and get the HD-DVD if I like it.

Very tempting to buy a lot at these prices, but I decided to just order my most wanted ones. Ordered: 2001 A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and Casablanca.

That's the risk of waiting because we're all waiting for those $5 specials. Thanks to sites like this, we'll get a heads up on such sales - but because of sites like this, so does everyone else. I've been stalling for awhile but decided to start picking up some of the titles I really want for double the price just for peace of mind. Maybe I'll be seeing some (if not all) listed for less but how fast will they go out the door? I felt like I got Star Trek by the skin of my teeth at DD's 20% sale and expect plenty of competition later on when the sweet spot is reached in price. And at that price, I'm sure I'll still find titles I'll want to pick up.

I ordered eight titles yesterday and the site said all but two were temporarily out of stock. However my order confirmation email said every one was in stock.

For 10 bucks I buy the discs that I would be shaking my head at if I missed getting them at that price. The discs that hit the 5 dollar price point are either going to be titles no one was banging down the doors for or they will be quite limited and likely hard to find.

2001 is a no brainer at 10 bucks. Beerfest...eh...I will wait for 5 bucks or below.

I do not mean to rain on the OP or anyone else here but people in Canada can go to Wal-Mart and get most of thoses titles for $5.00 each.

I think the traveling expenses would eat up the savings cost for most of us.

Though my ideal price point is below 9 bucks, I decided that I couldn't wait any longer for some of these (well, either that, or they'd go out of stock before they dropped any lower).

Use the Deep Discount link via live.com for an additional 8% discount and the $8.99 titles work out to $8.27 each. (You do need to set up a live.com account first.)

I feel pretty bad because I saw the prices drop on several titles on my wishlist Friday morning and didn't post anything here. DD's search/sort engine wasn't working properly, the only way I knew my titles had seen a price drop was because it was reflected on my wishilist. Some of them were $8.58, others (on the list above) were $8.99.

The titles I ordered were:
$8.99 Blue Planet - IMAX
$8.99 Galapagos - IMAX
$8.99 Purple Rain
$8.99 A Scanner Darkly
$8.58 Troy - Director's Cut
$8.58 V for Vendetta

All 6 were available on Friday, but three (Blue Planet, Troy, Vendetta) aren't any longer. I've finally been able to access my order history - the 3 "no longer available" titles are shown for me as on backorder. The status of the other three are "open".

Be sure to grab the That's Entertainment Trilogy Box Set. It's only $20. It gets mixed reviews but a lot of material is worth getting in HD. And for $20, it's around half the price of the SD DVD version.

Is there any trick to acquiring I am Legend in HD-DVD from DDD. I've been trying to get that since the last sale. Apparently Amazon seems willing to sell it to me (for $25) but not DDD. Has anyone successfully ordered a copy from DDD in the past few months. I'd love to get it for this price.

^^^A bunch of us ordered it from DD during this latest sale for $8.99, and I believe some have received shipping notices for it. Mine is backordered, but will hopefully ship eventually. I got shipping notices for most of the other 10 or so HD-DVDs I ordered during this sale.

Damn, thanks for the heads up. I had completely forgotten about this. I've been wanting to replace my LD set for years and $20 sounds good.

It is currently backordered, but I will take a shot. I know the reviews weren't the greatest, but it has to be an upgrade over my laserdisc set.

If you haven't ordered the That's Entertainment set yet, don't forget that you can get an additional 8% cash back discount if you access Deep Discount via live.com. That effectively drops the $19.98 price to $18.38.

I went ahead and ordered one.

I think you'll be fine. DeepDiscount should get enough to satisfy anyone who orders this.

Definitely get it. This is one of those situations where the "reviews" are way off-base, because it's a compilation movie working with elements from dozens upon dozens of different films. Frankly I think it looks great, but for people used to watching Pixar movies in HD, it looks like an eyesore -- to them.

As long as it's not "sold out" at DDD you'll be fine. I wouldn't worry about the backordered element.

I recommand this set as well if you care about the golden age Hollywood production. I bought it few months ago during 20% sale (paid about $36...)

It almost like a sneak preview what those oldies will look like in HD...

Other than those high-profile musicals, it is amazing to watch (a segment of) Marx Brother in HD!!
