Ordered "The Thief of Bagdad" and "Before The Rain." I've never seen the latter, but I know most of it takes place in Macedonia and was actually filmed there, and my grandfather was actually born there. I'm only 25% Macedonian but it's something I'm proud of. I hope to travel there some day, but I figured in the mean time, I can see a good movie, and experience a little of Macedonia along the way. $16.18 each. Not too shabby.

...too bad I already had both of them! This sale makes you wish that you had never bought a previous Criterion in your life. Getting both those above for $50 each is pretty incredible. $12 lower tier Criterions... great!

I picked up a whole bunch of stuff: some Tati that I didn't have, some of the recent noir-ish titles, the new Malles, and some of the Jacques Becker that has been out for awhile. Gotta love it.

Too bad they didnt wait until the new blu ray releases. Id have much more to buy.

maybe I'm crazy. but why in the world would anybody want to spend money on SD Criterions that list for $40 when they have already announced they are going to re-release these same titles on Blu-ray HD for $40?? Am I missing something?

^Maybe they think Blu-ray wont be around as long as dvd or just plain do not care...But thats a topic that should not be debated on this thread.

Because $16 a piece for those sets is a pretty incredible deal.

I guess they are trying to clear stock of the SD titles to make you think the BR titles are the thing to get?

Ugetsu is among a handful of Criterions that neither DD nor DVD Planet carry.

Last I heard, they've selected 13 titles to release on Blu-ray. Even if/when they decide to re-release the rest of the collection, at a rate of 3 a month, it would take more than 10 years to re-release all of the titles on Blu-ray.

Raise your hand if you think that Blu-ray will still be around by then...
