I second that notion. I actually acquired it before this BL sale because of a notion to complete my Pink Panther collection. To my delight I found this entry extremely funny. Alan Arkin doesn't attempt to imitate Sellers, but offers his own interpretation of the Clouseau character to great success.

It's payday for me, so I returned to my local Big Lots to find someone had plundered my hidden stash! I had a good chuckle over that, and was glad to find the interloper had left a few of my gems behind. Also, I was able to find some of the missing titles back in the main display (but no more Foxy Brown, goldurnit!)

So this round I picked up:
The Adventures of Mark Twain - inspired to pick this up as it has gained a reputation as a psychotronic film, with many clips on YouTube:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cqi5F5MqqTQ&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cqi5F5MqqTQ&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Konga
Kotch - in the Jack Lemmon/Walter Matthau team-up genre as Lemmon directed
The Dunwich Horror
Roadie
Breaking In - distinctive as the 1st movie where Burt Reynolds sports his true-life baldness (although you wouldn't know from the cover)
Needful Things
Thunderbird 6 - (hope I can track down the other one eventually)
The Fall of the House of Usher - 1 of the top 5 films of 1960!
Custer of the West - this is the long version
Jack the Giant Killer - sort of an unofficial sequel to The 7th Voyage of Sinbad - the back cover reads "Original theatrical presentation has been modified for DVD release" - the 1.66:1 aspect ratio is correct, I wonder if they mean this is the original release and not the recut "musical" version?
Suppose They Gave a War and Nobody Came?
X: The Man with The X-Ray Eyes
Guys and Dolls (Deluxe Edition) - I squeezed my hand into the hidden side against the endcap and found it!

Update: This DVD Talk review from 2004 explains the modified transfer of Jack the Giant Killer.

My neice bought Identity at our local big lots for $3. When she popped it in to watch it. It was a recording where someone had filmed the movie with a camcorder at a movie theater.
Has anyone else ever run across something like this?

Mine is still wrapped in the unwatched pile. I will check mine and re-edit this post with my findings.

ETA: Mine is the real deal. I just wonder how you got a pirate copy like that in an original case? Definitely sucks though.

I would just take it back and tell them its a bad disc and you want an even exchange for the same DVD. They should honor it as I had to do that with my copy of The Rachel Papers. Both on the WS and FS side, anything after chapter 7 would stick.

Anyone have a scan of the new Lone Star State of Mind cover art?

Edit: Anyone know whether or not the MGM release of Ring of Bright Water is anamorphic like the earlier Anchor Bay one? Can't find any information suggesting it is but figured there was a chance MGM just recycled the same transfer. Has anyone picked that title up and can confirm it one way or another?

They have two versions of these available:

Falcon And The Snowman (new and old cover art) (identical disc contents, BOTH are anamorphic)
Invasion Of The Body Snatchers ('78) (new and old cover art) (identical disc contents, NEITHER are anamorphic)

The Amityville Horror (the old non-anamorphic version and the newer anamorphic release)

Thanks. Not the answer I wanted to hear - LOL - but I suspected this was the case. I always wanted to see this film anyway, so I'll deal...

Maybel I'll check it out. The main reason I bought "Son" and "Curse" were for the reliable and wonderful support casts: Kwouk, Lom, + Cardinale, Niven, Wagner, Capucine. I'm still hoping to find "Trail" and "Revenge" at another B.L. I'll be checking this week.

Found a bunch of "First Look" titles in Culver City today including:

The Nugget (2002)
Spirit Trap (2005)
Ring of Darkness (2004)
The Pumpkin Karver (2006)
All the Way (2003)
Subject Two (2006)
Pulse (2003)
Johnny Was (2005)
Miss Firecracker (1989)
Net Games (2003)
Leo (2002)
The Bone Snatcher (2003)

Some looked look like one step up from bootlegs. Very sloppy.

I'm a big fan, and have never seen a better shot of her than the Unrated Swamp Thing. I think it is definitely worth it. I paid $60 for it on ebay, and was extremely pleased. I've only seen the new release @ my BL though.

Really?! I only saw the the old (non-animorphic) release. I'll have to look closer next time I'm there. Thanks for the heads up.

$60!?

If that's the only reason you got it... aren't there screencaps on the interweb? $60 bucks to wank off to a 63 year woman seems a bit much.

Don't bother, they are both non-anamorphic, but they did change the cover art a while back before releasing the new 2-disc SE (that's anamorphic and the one you'll likely want), but it's not at BL.

BL has both of these old non-anamorphic covers:

I had just bought SOLO starring Mario Van Peebles in the OOP WS/FS flipper. Does anyone know if it's now WS or FS only? If it's now only WS, I'll return this and find it. But if it's FS only, I've found a hard find.

She wasn't 63 when it was shot! And screencaps aren't the same as motion. And yeah, I really don't care for the movie, so the scene was the only reason I picked it up. If blu-ray has the scene, I'll buy it again... This has gone to a place I guess it should never have...

I have a question on the current MGM Big Lots batch: I've noticed that at least 3 of the films (Guys & Dolls, one of the other Brandos & Konga) are released on dvd jointly by Sony & MGM. These are 2 completely separate companies; Sony is Sony/BMG, & MGM is owned by Turner/TCM/Warner. Anyone know why both companies names are on these dvd's?

Keeping in mind that some of these sale DVDs were manufactured a few years ago, this Wikipedia page on MGM Home Entertainment may answer some questions.

When I bought the 16 titles the other day, I realized that I would need another shelf, so I bought that and Bowling for Columbine on my 2nd trip that day!

I went back today and found 7 more titles:

Bound for Glory
The Falcon and the Snowman
The Fugitive Kind
Hotel
Intermission
Nicholas Nickleby
The Yes Men

I think I've bought about 80 DVDs this year from Big Lots, 95% of them blind buys!

If you think that's bad, I can look up in my paypal records and find the guy that purchased a sealed one from me several years ago for...wait for it...

Last week they finally received their first batch ...err handful of HBO titles.

I picked up:

Capturing the Friedmans 2-discer
Death in Gaza
Poolhall Junkies

Today they got their MGM display up (with packaging material still intact) and I picked up:

The Fall of the House of Usher
The Dunwich Horror
(No "Die, Monster, Die!" )
X: The Man With the X-ray Eyes
A Bucket of Blood

Scanners
Gangster No. 1
Undertow
The Ghoul (Karloff)
CQ: SE
To Live and Die in LA
Guys and Dolls Deluxe Ed.
Boxcar Bertha
The Sure Thing
Salvador: SE
Bowling for Columbine
The Phantom of the Opera (Robert Englund)
Mulholland Falls
Foxy Brown
The Great Train Robbery
Pieces of April

A Shot in the Dark
The Pink Panther Strikes Again
Revenge of the Pink Panther
Trail of the Pink Panther
Curse of the Pink Panther
Son of the Pink Panther

And thank you for that very comprehensive list! I had a shopping cart full of DVDs and all 17 pages of it with the wanted titles highlighted ...three people mistook me for an employee stocking DVDs and tried taking them straight from my cart.
