Would not take the coupons on sale items so I left the merchandise there.

It's sad how this eventually ended. My membership expires later this month and it will not be renewed and I will never rejoin. Not being able to use coupons like we've always allowed to them throttling coupons and having shitty 10% off coupons more than usual, which makes most items maybe what amazon is charging without a coupon meaningless. It was a nice ride while it lasted. I'm frankly impressed the store is still in business but can't imagine it's not approaching near bankruptcy in a year.

PSA: This isn't a good deal on one item. The 10% member discount plus their normal 15% coupons is a 23.5% discount, while the double discount is 20%. They don't have coupons active during this weekend, but with the long-term 15% coupon in the wiki, it's actually an attractive deal, a 32% discount. These days, hard to know if they'd honor both discounts at once, but there's nothing in their system that used to explicitly deny it. Of course, for multiple items, it's a good deal, unless you can buy one thing at a time with the long-term coupon.

WTF is going on with this company and their online vs. in-store ops?

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

Sale definitely in-place in store, but it looks like none of the employees were notified yesterday adn kind of found out as the customers showed up. A bit of a correction today.

There were at least signs in store today though they were HomeMade version and not the usual professional signs. Looks like someone hit their computer made a simple sign, then printed them on standard white printer paper and ran off a bunch of copies. They were taped them on all the doors, Customer Service, the Media department, the cafe -- looked like my elementary school when Fall Festival was about to happen except lower quality signs.

40% All Blu-ray and DVD through July 17th
Excludes Disney, Marvel, and the Criterion Collection.

I think it said July 17, but normally it goes through Monday. Maybe a misprint or they decided to end it after Fathers Day. Regular coupons were working. 40% discount was applying to Ship to Home orders so I ended up with a bunch of Warner Archive
items released since Christmas many/most which likely won't be part of a 4/44 sale until November. Nice to be able to get them for under $11-12 now instead of waiting.

It looks like Warner Archive titles are no longer eligible for the 40% off? I'd sure like to get Super Fly (1972) for something less than $17.97 (as on amazon). Hopefully it gets cheaper, not sure I will wait for a WAC sale.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

There was something really strange about the recent 40% in-store sale. When I went to my store yesterday, all I saw were signs of 30% sale, not 40%. When I asked, the clerk insisted that 30% was the corporate directive.

Yet, when I did a ship-to-home order of Tarkovsky's The Sacrifice bluray (MSRP $39.95), the price came out to be $23.99, exactly 40%. After using a 20% coupon, 10% membership discount, and 5% BN credit card, the final price was $17.76 including tax, all in all a fantastic deal.

But my question is, how is it possible that BN couldn't even keep its sale promotion policy straight across its stores? There is got to be something ridiculous going on with BN's management.

It depends, did you have them look it up in the store computer or just BN.com website?

This is basically a store only sale far more than their past 40% sales. BN.com and BN store system are seriously quite separate entities as far as prices and functionality. In most situations that drives people crazy, but for this sale it works in our favor if you can use it. Virtually every Bluray and DVD except Disney/Criterion should be 40% in the In-Store System (there are a few oddball exceptions, but 99% of the rest are included)

WAC have virtually never been discounted online during these sales though normally about 2/3 of the BN.com movies are. This sale the BN.com side is not participating at all as far as I can tell. In order to get cheap WAC you have to do it as an In-store generated ship-to-home order which in their system is very different than a Web order. Some stores will do Phone-In Orders though the STH process is slow so try to call at a dead time and not all stores will do this and only some stores accept coupons over the phone and almost none allow Gift Cards by phone

Hmmm. I had no idea I just checked bn.com and added to cart. I would not had a chance to get to a store anyway. I guess I'll just keep an eye out for a lower price.

Thanks again, Hari, for all of your valuable information in this thread!

Turnarounds ‘Take Time’

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...unds-take-time

Something as big as B&N has a lot of momentum, so they're hard to stop, but I've noticed a lot of changes over the past year or so, and very little sign of turning anything around. Unfortunately, their products are more expensive. A lot of books have lost the online discount they once had, and many are selling for full cover price now online. That's a 20-40% price increase a lot of times. It's not just B&N, either, but at other retailers like Books-A-Million and Amazon, so it's an industry-wide price increase at the worst time with B&N giving out fewer coupons for lesser discounts than in the past. B&N is trying to get people to go to their stores about a decade too late. I haven't heard anything about the $14 grilled cheese sandwiches lately.
