Thanks very much for the endorcements. I had picked up the now out of print "Battles Without Humanity" box set on ebay and burned through the whole thing in a week. Since B/N is apparently allowing coupons on Arrows (at least for now) and with the fate of Criterion sale discounts uncertain it would be nice to have the secondary outlet for my bluray fix.

On the unique 20% code, I'm getting "Item(s) in your bag are not eligible for this promotion". Any ideas as to why?

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2

..could be that the item has not been released yet....

What's the item, but pre-order is the most common issue?

Every once is a while an item is miscategorized in teh BN database.

Some of the Harry Potter items have seemed to be listed as No Coupons for quite a while and for no real reason. The Harry Potter 8 Film set hasn't been coupon eligible in quite a while, but I guess nobody is really trying to buy it so the exclusion never got fixed.

Will teh code work on a different item? Sometimes a browser gets locked into a denial loop and you have to clean teh cache, try a different browser, or sometimes just sign out and back into the account.

I just tried both codes and they are active even in a nonmember acct. After trying the HP set and getting Not Eligible, I couldn't get the code to work again until I signed out of my account and signed back in.

Code works fine on other items. It's just a run-of-the-mill paperback from 2001. It's in-stock and sold by B&N. Odd. :scratch2:

Edit: Got my answer from Help Chat: "This was uploaded by the supplier as a textbook."

Not sure why then. I'm assuming none of the codes work for that item?

You could try calling in an order and seeing if the phone rep can tell why it isn't allowed or possibly manually add it. I've seen some items misclassified as textbooks or rentals, but those items get a different kick-out message.

Confirmed it was this. -rolleyes-

ineligible

Besides the textbook thing (and BN gets weird about what it calls a textbook sometimes!) and preorders, another ineligible condition is when an item is just released and says "Add to Bag" but the ship date hasn't changed yet. Be sure to check when they say the book will arrive. That date is just under the Add to Bag button. Items will get hung up in that limbo sometimes and it takes a while (several days) for coupons to be eligible. Sometimes an item will say Add to Bag, the release date will change, and then it will change back a few hours later. (I ordered a really expensive book with the last 30% coupon that was like that for a few hours before turning back into a preorder!) BN's system can get strange right when an item is released.

I can find no real pattern to what they consider a "textbook" - some Dover books are "textbooks" while almost all of them are not. Some university press books not textbooks (like the one I ordered with the 30% coupon) and others are (like the one I got at the store with the 40% off coupon last Labor Day - yes, a "textbook" was at the store). I also don't understand why some books have online discounts and some don't (almost all the Dover math books I've gotten have a substantial online discount except the one I just got with the 25% coupon - thanks to everyone who volunteered their codes!) or how BN picks a shipping method (which seems totally random with no pattern whatsoever other than BN outsources some orders to fulfillers like Ingram, who use the worst shipping methods possible like UPS MI). BN is a mysterious world of its own.

Does anyone know if Barnes and Noble usually has a percent off your entire purchase coupon the first week in April? I've tried searching the forum, but it's been difficult for me to find anything. Thanks!

Hard to tell if there is a pattern since %off Whole Cart codes really weren't common at all until June 2016 when they starting popping up fairly regularly.

Around holidays there can be some extra codes so with Easter coming it it wouldn't surprise me

If you want to keep an eye one BNAPR100 there is a decent chance this will be a live code sometime this month -- these style codes often go live on Fridays night/Sat morning.

In stores, are there ever any good deals? I work close to Barnes and Noble so wondering if it's worth going inside.

Depends on what you're buying. I never buy movies in-store because prices usually suck. Games, movie figures and other merchandise like lightsabers or vinyl figures are good with coupons.

Prices in-store and online don't match a lot of the time for books. I've usually found online to be cheaper.

In the past few years, MSRP (cover price) for items (especially books) has risen significantly to "price in" steep online discounts. B&N sells stuff at MSRP in the store (with the few exceptions Hari noted like some new releases), so finding a deal at the store isn't easy. My store has less and less inventory, so I can't find much there these days.

I've found these two scenarios where I came out ahead buying something at the store: (1) Some books are "textbooks" online, and you can't use a coupon, but if the book is at the store, the store will let you use a coupon. Last Labor Day, I got a "textbook" with the 40% coupon. B&N can be really random with what it considers a textbook. And (2) some items have no online discount, and again B&N can be really random about this. If an item is full MSRP online, you can get the 10% member discount and then use a coupon, and come out slightly ahead.

Thanks for the updates and info. Not really a book person anymore (takes up way too much space and expensive compared to digital) but I'm def into movies (and maybe vinyl if I ever decide to buy a record player). I'll be sure to keep my eyes on this in case any studio prices hit their sales so I can make the walk to the store.

Any 15-20% coupons currently working for online purchases?

I haven't done this in a while so I can't remember. If I special order something in-store, do I get the 10% membership discount or is it treated like an online order? Thank you.

appears to be re-usable online. It even worked on a non member acct so maybe even a bit more useful than the prior code. This one has been used online already so any chance that it works instore if manually entered is a big YMMV even once, much less re-usable until someone tries. I've tried to quit assuming with these codes anymore since each set seems to act just a little differently

Thank you, hariseldon. Got 'Black Society Trilogy' for $15.99 + tax

My Arrow haul:
Day of Anger
Requiescant
Cemetery Without Crosses
Blood and Black Lace
Nikkatsu Diamond Guys 1
Massacre Gun
Blind Woman's Curse

I kept considering getting Mark of the Devil, but after watching the trailer (4 or 5 times) I just couldn't see myself enjoying it.

I believe the procedure is...
1) If you order it to the store, then pay upon delivery... it's through store register... store price + 10% off

2) if they order and you pay upfront... it's though the online website... online price, no 10% discount

If you have a clerk/store that will do it then everything works the same except the store wouldn't allow me to use a Gift Card and I had to use a Credit Card. 2 of the 3 stores I called in December let me do this.

Since I'm 45 minutes from the closest store that was very nice for a last minute purchase when something came back into stock late. Usually I can combine shopping trips, but the phone "instore order" is something I'll be doing again.

I'm very close to a store. It makes sense for me to just go in and place the order since it will be a coupon/member discount/gift card purchase. Too many variables to go awry over the phone. :)
