Well, if you do end up using that discount code for $10 off $75 on 4 titles that are $19.99 the final price on each of those 4 titles is about $17.49, which is less than if you were to use 15% & 20% individual codes. If you're a member then that's free shipping on top, too.

Sad to say that I think the glory days for Criterion are over (at least for me). There was 1 remaining guy at my local store who would always let me use the 8 off 40 coupon for any criterion during the sale. Today he denied me telling me that they had been handed a memo from "Corporate" forbidding the use of that particular coupon for any sale. He was very apologetic, but it was clear that this was coming from on high and apparently had been distributed to all branches. Personally I can't justify spending $20 (or even $18 with a membership) on a single movie so they've lost me as a customer. I wonder if this 'official' policy will put any dents in their sales (or if they'll even take notice or care if it does).

True, but 17 and 17.50 are pretty much the same, plus you pay shipping on smaller orders unless you wish/able to be a member (or be able/willing to the store). There are advantages and situations where both are very useful and cheaper in certain situation
The 10/75 are very nice coupons for those without store access (and want to do an order that might get a box instead of cardboard sandwich) or the International shoppers especially who even with the normalized shipping can separate into small orders. I'm assuming making an order of 5-6 itmes with a 10/75 is a lot better than 5-6single orders each with a coupon.
It also helps those who have stores that will not accept coupons on 50% off items -- there are a few known examples who will not budge on the issue.

I fall into that "store will not accept coupons on sale items" category. Tried multiple times with no success. And that store is the only B&N location in my general area that even carries movies.
I ordered 4 BD's this morning with that 10 off 75 deal. Those were the only 4 I was after this time around, so I'm happy. Only slight issue was how slow the site has been. Had to refresh pages and start over a couple times. Seems their site is never fully ready to handle in the influx of activity these Criterion sales generate.

Hmmm, my total (haven't ordered it yet) came out to $17.49 for each of the 4 items I'm going to order. No sales tax and free shipping using the 10$ off $75.
