Tonight's the night when the planets may align and provide the briefest of windows, during which we may see the overlap of a B2G1 sale with a 40% off sale. Who else will be watching the stars tonight?

The B1G1 has ended, and 40% off is slowly phasing in. There will be no overlap this year. See you all next month.

I fell asleep last night while waiting for the overlap, so I am kinda glad it didn't happen... But I definitely hope it happens next month. I forgot, what typically happens after the 40% sale. The British sale? And then Criterion after that?

Not sure about cds and dvds, but it was all blu-rays in store. I tried to place a ship to store order on Longmire season 1 & 2 BD but was shot down. Cashier looked it up and tried to do it but said something about there was only a limited amount of copies to be shipped and they could only do ship to home.

Are coupons typically disabled online during this sale like the Criterion 50% off sale, or have they worked in the past?

Cust. Service told me that I could still do the Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale today or tomorrow, but that's because they keep having troubles.
I put in an order last week, after adding everything that was in stock and checking out they confirmed the order, then sent me a shipping notice, then a day later told me that the one book (oop at some other places) was actually not in the order and was being cancelled. Which was disappointing, but moreso given that they didn't seem to want to refund the money for it to my gc. I contacted them after 24 hours, and they told me to be patient that it would definitely be refunded in the next 24 hours. I chatted again after that didn't happen, and the guy told me that it would absolutely happen in the next 72 hours. Over 2/3 of that has passed and no refund still, but as part of the convo he promised to put in notes that I could still have the sale once they ever got around to refunding me the money. We'll see.

B&N seems to have a hard time fulfilling it's obligations on the B2G1.

I finally, finally, got a ship notice the other day for the free title in a B2G1 order I placed in January! It took talking to three different supervisors over several weeks (all of who claimed they were sending a note to the warehouse) to get movement on it. Still haven't received it, but I assume it is finally coming.

Many places distribute the 'free' item's price as a discount on each item - 3 x $30 for $60; each item is a third off, and charged at $20.
Some places (foolhardily) give you the percentage off/savings on the first item - sending you the $30 item free before charging for the second or third; B&N more wisely sends you the full-priced items first and the free one last... but then seem to be reluctant to send that final item for free. I've had two problems like that as well, and in both cases it's taken multiple people to push the free book/DVD out of their system...
I'm just glad that instore they only (in my experience - and I know many have other experiences) raise an eyebrow when selling titles for considerable savings. During the Criterion sale, you can often buy a $100 Criterion title for half-off, plus 10% member, plus 20% coupon... that's $54 off. Buy two $100 sets, and you get one of them completely free (and then some). Any businessman would baulk at that, but they wave them through instore with only mild trepidation!)

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
I just got back from B&N where I got a new membership and picked up a couple BDs at good prices...and the package was waiting for me. The last supervisor told me she was going to expedite delivery for the trouble (a courtesy I had expected the first two supervisors to offer, which they never did) and it came via UPS so I guess she did.
Part of this lengthy delay was on me. I wasn't in any hurry for the disc so I let it slide curious to see just how long it would take for them to finally fill the order. If I'd been more eager for it, I would have started calling back in early April when I got off the road. Just happy it's finished now. For the next B2G1 I'll have the membership so I'll get expedited shipping which may help. Also, the title at the time of the order was a week in advance pre-order. Since I was going free budget shipping, I expected them to wait the week and ship all three at once but they didn't.
edited to add- The good news is it came with a slipcase. The bad news is the whole thing is mangled to hell. Eco case + no reinforcement in the shipper = a big nasty mess.

Re: Barnes And Noble Coupon Thread Part 2
I'd also be very appreciative for any surplus coupons anyone could pass along. 15% would be great -- 20% even better (I'm a member)! Thanks!
