DD Deals Consolidated

DVD Talk Gold Edition
FYI: M-Z titles ARE included in the deal, just need to know which ones you want.
I picked up Miami Blues, Cop (CRIMINALLY underrated James Woods performance), and Stone Cold (a.k.a. the best movie EVER).

The Stranger and Kansas City Confidential are from MGM (which explains the higher price). Are there any bonus features on Kansas City? Looks like just a short featurette on The Stranger....very disappointing when compared to the Fox Film Noir releases.

Daisy Kenyon
Dangerous Crossing
Here's a complete list of the DVDs in the series.
Last year they also released four films in the MGM Film Noir line:
A Bullet for Joey
Kansas City Confidential
The Stranger
Woman in the Window
Edit: Indeed, the MGM series seems to be very light on extras. In fact, "Kansas City Confidential" does not have any special features at all. Here's a comparison of that edition with the other versions that are available.

If anybody has any input on the
Svankmajer shorts (vs. BFI edition)
or
Earth (Dovzhenko)
I'd really appreciate it. TIA.
To contribute something to the thread, I think that the film The Return (dir. Andrei Zvyagintsev) is excellent. Definitely worth a rental, if not a purchase. The $15 that DD has it for right now is the best price I have seen for awhile, maybe ever. DVD Talk review is here.

Thanks for the quick reply on the Film Noirs! I have all the Fox releases, but have only had a chance to watch a few...since I consider these part of my permanent collection they actually have low priority in viewing.
I have Kansas City Confidential on one of the public domain sets I bought awhile back - great film...but price is too high for me to double-dip right now. I'll just wait and hope to find it used sometime. Peter

ALso had to place a 3rd order to try out some of these Fox Film Noir titles. Just guessed on ones to pick up after reading a couple of reviews and seeing the features. Ended up going with
Laura
Black Widow
Call Northside 777
(all for only $20.96)

And At Close Range...how can you go wrong with Penn and Walken? Plus Crispin Glover is in it.

Wonderful sale! I managed to keep my total fairly low although I'm still looking closely at that great Buster Keaton set for $99...
I'm a big fan of classic comedies and I highly recommend each of the titles I purchased based on their reviews and content (thought not all are comedies).
$14.98 Cavalcade Of Comedy
$14.98 Charley Chase Collection, Volume 1
$12.48 Charley Chase Collection, Volume 2
$49.98 Douglas Fairbanks Collection
$24.98 Glamour Girls Collection
$12.48 It Happened Tomorrow
$14.98 Metropolis
Total $144.86
Thank you DD & the original poster!

Also, anyone looking at these titles should make sure that they can’t be had in as part of a set in this same sale for a significantly lower price. I nearly made this error with the Glamour Girls Collection ($24.98, 5 Titles vs. $14.98 each) and the Douglas Fairbanks Collection ($44.98, 5 Titles vs. $14.98 each).

Does anyone own the Film Noir Box Sets
Both collections are awfully tempting to buy at $25 does anyone know if the prints of the films are high quality?

I don't want to play spoilsport here but for those of you going for Battleship Potempkin,
there is a criterion release in fray which will likely include following films
Eisenstein: The Silent Years - The Criterion Collection
- Strike ( Стачка ) ( Stachka ) (1925)
- Battleship Potemkin ( Броненосец Потёмкин ) ( Bronenosets Potyomkin ) (1925)
- October - Ten Days That Shook the World ( Октябрь ) ( Oktyabr ) (1927)
This is not definite as sometime projects get delayed/stalled. And then in Criterion Newsletter that i received yesterday, it was mentioned that they are coming out with blu-ray discs for some of the titles as well.

I already own a lot of Kino stuff (German Horror Box, Fritz Lang Box, DW Griffith Box, It (with Clara Bow), Metropolis (outside of the copy that comes in the Box), and probably some I'm forgetting... but damn this sale is awesome. I am very, very poor but I'm seriously considering:
The Art of Buster Keaton
Battleship Potemkin
Nosferatu
Man With a Movie Camera
Reel Baseball
German Expressionism Collection
$200 shipped for that much stuff is ridiculous. I hate having no money when these sales come up.
