obviously, i don't think they should, because both speedy and punit's threads only violate the letter of the law and not the spirit of the law.

I missed that, but that makes sense in this unwieldly and useless thread. That I did kinda proves my point.
So we can look forward to speedy's threads being mushed together into unworkable blobs? Out of fairness. Out of POLICY. This is the same madness that results in low-level drug mules going to prison for life because judges are bound by mandatory minimum sentencing rules. (Bleeding hearts judges are a problem, too.)
Rigid adherence to policy allows the weak to avoid using judgment when it's needed. "Sorry, can't do that (even though it's a good idea) because it's against POLICY." Web sites depend on traffic for income and if Draconian policy enforcement means dumb (in)decisions that drive members away, I hope that policy manual will keep them warm.
Look what happened to DVD Aficionado when Ed arrogantly eliminated 3/4 of the features (like PDA support) and then demanded that members beg (or give donations) to encourage him to restore the lost functions. It took me two numbing days of copying and pasting 1100+ entries, but DVD Spot now has my patronage and their numbers are on the rise while DVDAF's are flat.
Alternatives are just a click away. Webmasters forget this at their peril.

i actually prefer to check that thread as opposed to DVDTalk a lot of times, but that's just three ongoing sale threads, instead of DD which can range up to over a dozen at one time.
point taken, though

True, but at CAG there are a zillion other games, platforms, stores, etc. that are competing for attention in the main Game Deals area. Here, it's pretty basic: DVDs and Blu-rays. When he polled about what to do with his threads, I voted for keeping the way things are and am a little annoyed that people keep asking, "Hey, any metric screwdrivers or laptops with triangular screens and warp capability?" He doesn't seem to mind, but then again, he's a Saint doing God's work in bringing us the deals he does. I would never impose upon him that way.
