Email from Best Buy confirming I will be sent $50 GC

I got an email today from Best Buy stating I am eligible for the $50 Gift Card. Below is the body of the email

Dear Best Buy customer,

Our records show that you purchased an HD DVD player from Best Buy™.

Recently, Toshiba announced that they will no longer produce HD DVD players, and movie studios decided they will no longer release new movies in HD DVD.

At Best Buy, we are dedicated to making sure you always have the right technology for you. That is why we will be mailing you a Best Buy™ gift card in the upcoming weeks. If you haven't received your gift card by May 1, please call us at 1-888-BEST BUY (1-888-237-8289).

If you are interested in trading in your HD DVD player and HD DVDs, check out our technology trade-in service at BestBuyTradeIn.com where we will accept HD DVD hardware and software in exchange for a Best Buy gift card based on its market value.

We truly appreciate you as a customer. If you have further questions, please go to BestBuy.com/hddvd.

I got the email today too

I'm guessing those of us who have gotten the emails are the ones who used a rewards zone card at the time of purchase.

Just curious, have those of you that are worried that you haven't received an e-mail called Best Buy? I've called the number (I think 888-bestbuy) a couple of times, spoken with a couple of CS reps who have been very friendly and helpful, and I've made sure that my in-store purchase (not made with reward zone) is in the system and validated to receive the gift card. I needed to give them my receipt info for them to look up and validate. That's more direct than waiting for the e-mail.

Got email this am! What to spend $50 on - HD-DVD probably if they still have any by then

Busy day for Best Buy. I got the email this morning and a message on my machine when I got home. Guess I'm definitely getting $ back.

I was thinking about this .. wouldn't they save a little bit by issuing the $50 in the form of printable rewards zone coupons? Then they wouldn't have to mail anything out? And it could be done a lot quicker.

I don't think everyone is a RZ member. It might be too much of a hassle to require everyone who bought a player to sign up. Those who aren't a member just need to show up with a qualifying receipt.

I agree, but for those that are members it would eliminate the need to mail out anything, and those "gift cards" could be emailed instantly. I can't wait for mine. Will go towards the GTA IV special edition

Calling worked for me too. They had one on file, and I had another from a printed receipt that I gave them the info for.

Thank you $100.

I don't think that it would be a hassle, and I bet they could get 100% participation. I mean, wouldn't you sign up if you were sure you'd get $50 or more?

Well considering my apartment got robbed and all my HD-DVDs and Blu Ray movies got jacked along with my PS3, this will help replace things. I received my e-mail a couple of days ago. Bastard thieves didn't take the A2...must have been in the loop on that. Anyway, if you can't find your receipt, go and see if they can find it by your phone number at the store. The one by me pulled up the over 3000 things I've purchased since 2000. It was about 40 pages long. Really helped with the insurance. Just an idea.

Haven't gotten an email yet, but the operator told me they would be sending out after May 7th, she took down all my info. She said they were going in alphabetical order.

That's a load of shit unless they've only called last names A and B. My last name starts with C and I haven't heard a damn thing or gotten any emails.

I got both phone call & email. Bought A2 & A3 + a bunch of Xbox plug ins. Used Rewards Card of all of them. Nice gesture I think.
