That's pretty cool that they're sending them out automatically. I bought my HD-A3 in November 07, so I should get one for that. I also bought the XBOX 360 drive, but on the 26th, so I missed out on that.

Still, $50 is $50, hopefully I won't have to haggle with them to get it.

OH MY GOD! I bought 5 of the Xbox add on unites back in october or november when they were giving out the Heroes series hd set and the 2 free hd selections of your choice (the one where it was letting you select box sets even though the titles were supposed to be under $30.00) - I kept a bunch of the movies - also got 5 free for each mail in (different addresses of course) and then sold the xbox units (some with and some without the king kong hd dvd inside it) and some of the free dvds on ebay!

this is AWESOME!

cha-ching!

(the article clearly states that you'll get one $50.00 gift card FOR EACH hd player you bought!)

Wow, why in the world are they doing this? I don't think people blame BB for HDDVD going under nor will they shop there more often because they gave them $50. And $50 is quite a big sum for each HDDVD player.

It's almost like BB is acting nice. Like a school bully who always steals your lunch money and beats you up and calls you names like "devil" and then turns around and gives you a nice Christmas present.

Let us know if you get your $250 bearkiss.

Umm no you didn't miss out.

Toshiba HD-DVD player from November 2006 - Feb 23rd 2008!!

I hope this really does come automatically. With my reward zone and credit card use, I should have no problems. Don't want to have to call.

That's pretty sweet. Best Buy takes a lot of shit, most of it deserved, but it's nice to see they're still capable of doing something decent for their customers. I do have to wonder if it's just to generate customer good will, or if they're worried about a class action suit from people who had Best Buy employees talk them into getting an HD DVD player over Blu-Ray.

I don't see any start date listed (November 26, 2006, or otherwise).

I guess those of us who purchased from bestbuyforbusiness are out of the running anyway.

Cool. I could use $50.

The trade in is also interesting, I didn't know they did that for other products already. Not going to trade mine in, but the one I bought my sister for xmas might be, although I think I'd rather buy it from her instead. She's also still waiting for the 5 free titles, geez.

Pure awesome! Takes the sting out of my $300 A2, which I gave to my parents for upconverting. I'm interested to take a look at the trade in values also.

Sorry I thought he bought it during the Heroes deal. Which is included since that was Oct./Nov. 2007.

Awesome news. I bought one of the $99 HD-A2s a couple of months ago, which came with 3 free HD DVDs in-store and the 5 free by mail-in, and will now cost me $50.

Damn, that Circuit City price match did not pay off this time......unless they would match this deal as well, might be worth a shot.

Right on! This is very welcomed news. After reading through everything though, how do they know who to send the GCs to exactly? I don't remember giving them my address for anything

I bought an A1 with a warranty at launch. About a year later, it broke, and they allowed me to put the purchase price towards a new blu-ray player. I doubt it will count, but I guess I can hope.

Ah well, I'm at least in for one $50 card from the $99 A2 I picked up.

I was about to ask the samething, but I found a link to their AP release of this story and I copied this from it.

"Most Best Buy customers won't have to do anything to receive their gift card. As a demonstration of its commitment to its customers, Best Buy will proactively mail cards to all customers that the company can identify as having purchased an HD DVD player. Members of the Best Buy Reward Zone program, customers who purchased Performance Service Plans (PSPs) or who made their purchase on BestBuy.com should look for their gift cards in the mail by May 1. Other customers who may not be easily identified can call (888) BEST BUY to receive their gift cards with proof of purchase through a credit card or their Best Buy receipt. "

If you used a Reward Zone card, you should receive the gift card automatically.
