steebo777 - Clean out your PM box. I can't reply to your note.

My copy of The Brave One froze in a couple places, even after washing it off; it has no scratches. Beowulf, T3, Eastern Promises, Shrek 3, Next, and Payback have been fine. A brand new copy of In the Valley of Elah I got error 408bc504 about 61 minutes in on my XA2, but it played fine on my 360. Grrr.

Does the buffer machine leave a spirograph looking design on the disc? One of my HV discs I picked up has this pattern, thought it looked kind of strange.

My local HV that I checked before had some used HD-DVD movies. Nothing spectacular. I had to ask if they had any as they weren't mixed in with the normal dvd used racks.

The employee told me they were part of the 2 for $20 sale. I picked up Shrek 3 and Smokin Aces. The rest of the movies did not interest me, and I can't even recall what they were.
The only thing that sucks is the cases are standard dvd cases. At least there was artwork. I will have to see if I can track down some blank HD-DVD cases.
I may stop by another HV today and see if I can find anything else.

YGPM. Before it was saying that you had opted to not receive them or couldn't. Go figure.

Edit: What's with all the Detroiters here? We should have a party sometime!

I called the 2 HV stores that carry HD DVD, one (corporate store) said they're not getting any more in.
The other (franchise) only got Into The Wild, which they're holding for me.
Called the only Movie Gallery I could find that sold HD DVD, and they said they are not getting anymore in either.

During one stop I purchased four discs which seemed to have some decent wear. Without asking, the guy behind the counter took the discs and had them polished. I have only watched one of these four so far, but there were four areas where there was about 1 min which was unreadable. All four of these discs have swirl marks on them.

Aren't these swirl marks native to both formats? When I look at the back of a HD or Blu I see swirls that I see on bubbles (if that makes sense?!?).

My daughter and I watched some Harry Potters I got from HV this weekend and didn't encounter any problems. However, it might depend on your area since I highly doubt that any of the titles I bought ever rented. They all looked pristine , besides some lint that I blew off.

I got last (only?) one at the Lincoln Park store around 11:30 today. Did you try the Highland Park one? It is pretty close to the Southfield store. I went there when this sale first started and they had quite a few titles.

No Into the Wild or Things We Lost in the Fire, but I did pick up No Reservations. I think, in my area, this is it for HD DVDs. I'll check them next week for Michael Clayton and/or In the Valley of Elah.

The Highland Park store has ONE copy of Into the Wild, but they can't sell it until after inventory tomorrow morning. I've got it reserved under my name, but there isn't a second title that I really want to make it worthwhile except, maybe, Flags of Our Fathers. If I don't pick them up, I'll post that I've released it.

I went into my local Hollywood Video a few days ago, and I could have sworn they didn't carry any HD stuff. But I guess they do, as they had a little Blu-Ray rental section. I don't go in there much and have never rented, so I'm not surprised I wasn't up on what they carry.

They also had a handfull of the used HD-DVD's for sale. They had perhaps 20-25 in total, arranged on two displays at the end of two racks. They actually had them set up with "2 for $20" signs prominently displayed. It didn't look like many had picked through what they had, it looked more like they simply never carried a lot of titles to begin with. I didn't see anything I was much interested in; many of the titles were titles found in the "5 Free" Toshiba promotion; they had three or four of the titles I picked in that free rebate. I saw perhaps two or three titles I wouldn't mind having, but paying almost $11 after tax for used and possibly abused discs in those really wonky-looking DVD-style cases just didn't appeal to me.

I don't know how or if they move much of their previously-viewed standard DVD's. One time about two or so years ago, I picked up three used DVD's in one of their "3 for $20" or some such sale. Today, they still have like a million copies of the same titles they had a million copies of two years ago. It's strange, but I suppose not unexpected for a rental store, to see hundreds of discs in the store, but the discs consist of dozens and dozens of copies of very few titles.

Random note

If anyone here has ordered cases from "mediaexchange1" off Ebay, they received their 10,000 case shipment on Tuesday. They should be shipping out orders soon.
