At my Big Lots at Durham, NC I never saw any HBO titles, but I did see these titles for $3 each:
- Vertical Limit (Superbit) - 5-6 copies - Gattaca (Superbit) - 1 copy - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Superbit) - 1 copy - Art School Confidential - 3-4 copies - Bad Education (Uncut NC-17 edition) - 5-6 copies - Anatomie - 3-4 copies - The Forgotten - 3-4 copies |
Found an extra Sweet & Lowdown WS/FS if anyone needs one. Still looking for Sheena WS/FS if anyone finds an extra.

Hello. If anyones sees any copies of Sweet and Lowdown WS/FS in the Fort Lauderdale area please let me know. I've checked 4 stores and they all only had FS copies, but hopefully they will show up eventually. I am also looking for Hannah and her sisters if anyone sees one. Thanks.

Holey Moley, Batman!
Just got back from my local Big Lots in Durham, NC. Holey Moley! There were stacks and stacks of DVDs that I have never seen before. I would easily say there were over 100 unique titles - maybe more.. And 5-10 of most titles! Egads.
All $3! I think they were all Sony - too many to look through. Some new ones I got (and didn't see before) The Changeling We Were Strangers (rare John Huston film) 3-Iron Brother (Takeshi Kitano) Texas ('43 William Holden) FreedomLand. And way , way too many others to mention. Sure I saw some HBO documentaries too. Would have bought more if I had $. : ) The stacks were so high and deep, I couldn't see the ones in the middle, so there could be some more good stuff there. Some others I remembered (but didn't get) Art School Confidential Labryinth (SE) Legends of the Fall, and - I give up. too many titles. If you haven't been to your local Big Lots in a while, I would highly suggest it! hope this helps.. |

Labyrinth was not there the two times I went in the past week (PS: sorry there were no HBO titles, that was the store I hit hardest for those :S) |
Made another trip today looking for some Sweet and Lowdowns to trade, but they were all gone. Surprisingly, the huge number of Bachelor Party: Vegas discs were gone too. Who's buying those? I picked up a few things I didn't see before and tried to arrange the stacks so that they would not tumble down. I'm still looking for subsequent volumes of The Hitchhiker.
The Hitcher The Show Off the Map Starship Troopers 2 Mini's First Time The Enemy Within Soldiers in the Army of God One Night Stand: Louis CK |

You're my hero, man! I drove down from Burbank this afternoon and I'm embarrassed to admit how many I snagged. Let's just say I turned into a total three-dollar DVD whore. I make regular sweeps from the SF Valley to parts eastward and I've never seen the level of HBO titles that store had. The store was slow when I checked out, so all three checkout ladies were standing around gabbing and one of them said, "I had a guy a couple of days ago that bought a ton of these." I just smiled to myself and thought, "Hmm... I bet I know that dude." Thanks again, Dave |
Murrieta, CA - I found what I was looking for
Citizen Cohn and for good measure I picked up Blind Justice The Gathering Storm They had 2 copies of all the HBO titles that I saw - except Citizen Cohn. I picked up the only one (left) there. More $3 goodness from Big/Lots! (Still hoping for Runaway....) |
Found another good HBO batch but still can't locate Angels in America. Would be willing to trade any of the following for Angels in America:
Empire Falls The Comback Lucky Louie Mind Of The Married Man, Season 1 Best of Arli$$ (2-disc) |
So far I have gotten everything and more I've wanted from big lots, except two titles that continue to allude me.
Labyrinth LE ( I already own it, but was looking one for my friend ) Legends of the fall Deluxe Edition w/booklet. Got lucky and found a widescreen copy of Truth or Consequences today. |
I finally found some of the HBO and MGM discs here in South Louisiana. But I am still looking for:
Labyrinth Dark Crystal Spaceballs I bought extra copies of these for possible trades: Angels in America Gus Van Sant's Last Days Hannah and Her Sisters The Hitchhiker (V1) Electra (MGM World Films) Thanks. sam |

I see the "SPECIAL WIDESCREEN PRESENTATION" version that doesn't even have anything (ANYTHING!) written on the back pretty regularly at BL. I want the boxed version though :\ (and the Stand by Me one, but I know that is pretty much just as rare) |
I found the stand by me one...
I have 3 big lots I visit in my area alot. So far anything that was rare or limited they have gotten. A river runs through it (deluxe and boxed) Stand by me ( deluxe and boxed) Memento (limited edition) Panic Room ( 3 disc) Spaceballs ( SE) hitchhiker vol 2 and 3 ( Which it seems as far as this board goes, I have been the only one to find) Sheena Widescreen The Sweet and Lowdown Widescreen But for some strange reason, No Boxed Legends of the fall or Labyrinth. But hey, you can't win them all. |

Found 2 extra ANGELS IN AMERICA if someone wants to trade. Or to buy with paypal.
Anyone needing these, I have extras that are new sealed and non floaters: ANGELS IN AMERICA 2 copies ($6) SWEET AND LOWDOWN WS/FS (OOP) flipper 5 copies. SPiRAL, you're my new best friend! I went to that store earlier today and hit the mother lode! Pretty much had the same Sony titles that my nearest stores had but they had a TON of HBO titles I haven't seen yet. They even had some OOP Slingshot/Lumivision titles like Rock 'N' Roll High School. I walked away a very happy camper. Thanks for the tip! |

found 6 ws/fs flippers of 'Sweet and Lowdown' in a BL near me finally (only got 2). They also had a ton of new Slingshot IMAX movies in a new pallet - $4 each. But I have had extremely bad experience with earlier slingshot titles - worse than VHS quality video on them.
|
They just stocked the BL near me, I got some Wiggles for my daughter & Cracker for me. I realized later that I should have gotten another Cracker set for a friend in NY. I went back and someone had cleaned it out of every single series set, double disc set, Superbit, etc. One side of the display (just stocked previously) was bare.
Hopefully I can figure out when they stock so I get a chance at another. Sheesh...thankfully I got the one set. |
Did my three stores this AM looking for the"Sweet and Lowdown" flipper and FINALLY found one. The FS/flipper ratio in my area is running 25:1.
|
Just went to Big Lots yesterday. Caught the new display a couple of hours afger it was erected.
Had 3 layers / 4 sides jammed with a couple thousand DVDs. All Sony including: The Net My Best Friend's Wedding Groundhog Day SE Jeopardy Labrynith CE Dark Crysal CE (last one) Little Women (w/Book) Foxfire (Angeline Jolie) XXX Superbit Johnny Pneumonic Suberbit Crouching Dragon Suberbit The One Superbid Gattaca Superbit There were at least 5-10 copies of all these and dozens more titles (Some Sony Titles that have been at BL before). Edit: I am looking for a copy The Comeback. Have Labrynith CE for trade and may be able to get a copy of Dark Crystal CE. |

I went to Big Lots yesterday with the intentions of buying a few Sharpies. But, after seeing their $3.00 DVD sale, that all changed.
I was completely stuck looking at this sale yesterday because I found a few things that I wasn't expecting to see. They had all types of HBO programming, stand-up performances, movies, superbits, etc. Some of the better DVDs I seen (remember, the whole bin was $3 a piece) MOVIES... Drouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Superbit) Citizen Cohn The Forgotten Elephant Art School Confidential The Josephine Baker Story HBO Stand-up performances... Bill Maher: Victory Begins at Home Dennis Miller: Raw Feed One Night Stand: Louis C.K. Cedric the Entertainer: Taking You Higher Ellen DeGeneres: The Beginning Ellen DeGeneres: Here and Now David Spade: Take the Hit Chris Rock: Never Scared Lewis Black: Black on Broadway Lewis Black: Red, White and Screwed Roseanne Barr: Blonde and Bitchin' Jerry Seinfeld: Im Telling You For The Last Time HBO Series... The Complete First Season of Def Comedy Jam (the new Def Comedy Jam) The Complete Second Season of Def Comedy Jam (the new Def Comedy Jam) Arli$$: The Best of (11 episodes)..........(HBO Series) The Complete First Season of Def Poetry The Complete Second Season of Def Poetry Lucky Louie: The Complete Series (HBO Series).....simply amazing price Mind of the Married Man: The Complete First Season (HBO Series).....amazing price The Comeback: Complete First Season (HBO Series) Taxi Cab Confessions: New York, New York Angels in America (HBO Mini Series) Empire Falls (HBO Series) I think I may go back later this week to see if they've restocked the pile. Oh yeah, in case anyone wanted to know, this is the Big Lots in Hermitage, Pa. |
the big lots here in southern california have been pretty dry on most of these titles, but i found some at the west covina store today, which made me pretty happy.
got some HBO titles, they had only one of each title as people metioned, so i picked up the comeback and poolhall junkies. there were also lots of the other sony dvds. really big selection compared to all the other stores. unfortunately, no panic room/dark crystal/labyrinth, etc. probably over for that. thanks to everyone that continuously updates this post with their findings! i used to never ever step foot in big lots. definitely would've missed out if not for this thread! |
This is probably common knowledge but for those that miss a title when it hits Big Lots, there's always a chance that it will show up at the local F.Y.E. They seem to receive quite a few of the same titles and sometimes for a very similar price. I think there was a discussion about the deluxe edition of A River Runs Through It upthread and my local F.Y.E. has it in their bargain $4.88 bin (3 for $12). Not as good as $3 but still pretty cheap.
A lot of these $3 titles get traded in as well but the used prices aren't nearly as good. Still, if you've gotta have a title... |
