Anyone have any luck finding a widescreen Truth or Conseqences N.M.?

Yes, I found a WS/FS flipper of Truth or Conseqences N.M.

As DVDTalker kg3 mentioned, look at every copy you are interested in. You never know when you will find a WS/FS flipper mixed in with a bunch of fullscreen only copies....

FangsFirst 05-29-08 01:12 AM

I find a lot more WS/FS Truth ors than I did Sweet and LD...most of the Truths seem to be WS flippers around here.

Still no Hitchhiker v2/3...though I've got an extra v1, heh

My copy of Mom And Dad Save The World said 16:9 on the back and I checked it and it is anamorphic W/S. I wonder if it could be one of the cropped fullscreen titles I've heard about as the shots seem close in. I haven't seen it before so I'm unsure - but it is definitely anamorphic.

Anyone have any more info? Amazon only lists a F/S (1.33:1) version. If anyone has the F/S version or VHS we could compare screenshots, I would like to figure this out and I can't because it isn't a flipper.

obscurelabel 05-29-08 03:02 PM

My Big Lots had a number of flipper copies of Still Crazy, another Sony title that was originally WS/FS but was later changed to fullscreen only. The flippers have 1.85:1 widescreen on the back, the FS only ones don't. I picked up that one, Talk to Her, and We Were Strangers (a John Garfield - Jennifer Jones vehicle, directed by John Huston) for $3 each.

Phibes 05-29-08 04:00 PM

HBO Titles hit my Big Lots (Temple, TX).

Got for $3:
Angels in America
Empire Falls
Cracker S1
Josephine Baker Story
Mom and Dad save the World
Handful of Dust
Cherokee Kid
A Father..A Son..Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (Kirk and Michael Douglas documentary).

CaseyB 05-29-08 04:25 PM

Our Big Lots finally got the big cardboard box filled with DVDs today. I picked up the following:

Today here was a huge display in the middle of the store but I was a bit disapointed in the selection. However, my old standby display at the back of the store had a lot of the previously mention HBO titles, but only one of each. Anyway I walked out with the following:

The Changeling
The Natural
Cracker: Series One
Naked World
Norma Jean & Marilyn
Elephant
Maria Full of Grace
The Jack Bull
Poolhall Junkies
The Hitchhiker
K Street
Empire Falls
Path to War
Last Days
The Comeback: The Complete Only Season
One Day in September
The Mind of the Married Man: The Complete First Season
Little Women
The Net
Freedomland
Auto Focus
Talk to Her
Sweet and Lowdown
Gattaca
Grateful Dawg
Laurel Canyon
Lucky Louie
Flatliners
Johnny Mnemonic
Frankenstein
Junebug
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Labyrinth

Pizza 05-29-08 10:04 PM

Went to my Big Lots at Brookgate shopping center and they had the display. Found the widescreen flipper for Sweet and Lowdown (yeah!) but not Sheena (boo!) which were all full screen only. They had several of the superbit titles including Johnny Mnemonic (which I picked up), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (already have it), XXX and Gattaca (and already have it.). There were quite a variety of titles, most have been mentioned here. Was Another You or I Still Know What You Did Last Summer mentioned yet? Finally found a single copy of Real Women Have Curves and also In Cold Blood. Also grabbed Joe Dirt. I was disappointed to see that all DVDs of Suspect were full screen.

Skyclad01 05-30-08 12:35 AM

Today I picked up:

Poolhall Junkies
xXx: State Of The Union SE
Foxfire
Jerry Seinfeld: "Im Telling You For The Last Time"
Tracey Ullman: Live & Exposed

hiccup 05-30-08 01:36 AM

Wouldn't mind Gattaca...guess it's time for a checkup of BL since I haven't been there in several weeks.

Watch out for Wild Things. They're all FS, unless you found a WS/FS flipper

das1330 05-30-08 05:16 PM

Did not look, everything else was widescreen so I made an assumption on that one.

Curious, is your name Darkhawk in reference to the marvel comics character? One of my all time favorite marvel characters (Infact I use that forum name at a few comic forums)

Spiral Staircase 05-30-08 05:32 PM

I stopped by a Big Lots on the way home tonight. They just received their HBO shipment last night so they had a pretty good selection. They still had a few Columbia/Sony titles remaining from last week's palett.

Purchased:

Angels in America
The Cheap Detective (I did not realize I picked up the full screen version until I got home.)
Cracker: Series One
Elephant
The Hitchhiker Vol. 1
In Cold Blood
Last Days
Sweet and Lowdown (FS/WS)

Yes. I was pist off when they cancelled the series. I wrote Marvel asking them why they keep cancelling every new hero's series by not giving them a chance. True, he's not Spider-Man or The X-Men but it's good to see a new hero get its own book.

Bad Education
Anatomy 2
The Mothman Prophecies
Lords of Dogtown
The Third Miracle
Death Tunnel (probably will regret that decision)

It looked like they received two copies of each of the HBO titles. Unfortunately, I could only find one Angels in the America. They did have a few more Sweet and Lowdown WS. I can try to pick one up, but I will not be near that Big Lots until after the weekend.

Hey, Larkin!

What's the location for the store where you snagged all the HBO titles?
I'd like to go there and see if you left any for me...

Thanks,
Dave

B5Erik 05-31-08 11:39 AM

I'd love to find Citizen Cohn....

The Valeyard 05-31-08 12:08 PM

My closest Big Lots had most of the Sony titles and about half the HBO titles. The other Big Lots around me only had some of the Sony titles.

I'd love to find Norma Jean and Marilyn and the Dark Crystal.

You too, thanks !

JiM T 05-31-08 02:00 PM

For any St. Louis, MO DVD talkers, as of this morning, the Crestwood/Watson Rd. store has a big palate of Sony titles, with multiple copies of many of them. I could NOT find the Batman serials and Labyrinth, but they did have five copies of the big fancy "Dark Crystal". I got:

Still Crazy (WS/fullscreen)
Auto Focus
Gattaca (Superbit)
Sketches of Frank Gehry

Sondheim 05-31-08 02:24 PM

Between the American Fork and Provo, Utah stores, I was able to find most of the new HBO and Sony titles... But still no "Elephant", "Last Days", "The Dark Crystal", or "Labyrinth", which are the four titles I want the most...

Still, I did buy:

American Splendor
Capturing the Friedmans
The Changeling
The Company
The Forgotten
Maria Full of Grace
Real Women Have Curves

I also saw one copy of "Angels In America", and lots of other HBO series, but decided I wasn't interested enough to buy them...

RustyOrgan 05-31-08 02:42 PM

FINALLY found a copy of 'Sweet Low Down' (WS)!! and picked up 'Bad Education' (NC-17)

3dipper 05-31-08 02:55 PM

I ended up reselling my Labyrinth CE DVD after realizing there is a better 2-disc Anniversary Edition (released 14-Aug-2007).

Note to self: Check Michael's DVD List before purchases.
