This is an awesome sale and I'm happy for what I got and for what everyone else was able to scoop. However, it does hurt for longtime anime collectors. I just checked my collection and there are 61 DVDs included in this sale that I already own. I paid around $680 for these titles and they can now be had for $244. Granted, I got some of these titles years ago, but some of them weren't acquired until just last month.

Right. I'll order a matching set, hope I don't lose any extras.

...

Done. Here's what I got
1 Ah! My Goddess the Motion Picture +
1 Appleseed +
4 Haibane Renmeis +
4 Lains Experimenting +
4 NieA_7s +
4 Paranoia Agents +
4 Rumiko Takahashis +
3 Lunar Legends =
25.

Why do I even order new DVDs? It's going to take me, what, 2 months to watch all 6 seasons of Highlander I ordered (at $15/season) from the DDD sale and only ever intend to watch once? (and will then want to trade them for something else... sigh). I'll never get around to watching the stuff I just ordered. I know, join the club etc.

Edit: My card captor sakura order is on its way too... help me.

There's no real extras on the original discs, so you wouldn't be missing out on anything anyway. And $20 for the whole series is an absolute steal.

I'm looking into placing a 25 piece order with RightStuf, but I'm a few titles short. Anyone want to recommend some?

Right now I'm going for NieA Under 7, Paranoia Agent (haven't seen it, but I love Satoshi Kon,) and Sherlock Hound (haven't seen it, but love Miyazaki and Takahata.) I'm on the fence on Mao-chan (I understand Akamatsu was involved, and I loved Love Hina.) All of these leave me with 7 slots to fill.

I would put Haibane Renmei on the list too, but I bought it back when it cost ~$25/disc, because I loved it so much.

Anyway, any good suggestions? I'm not a big action fan. I tend to like the slower, "deeper" shows most, followed by romances and comedies.

Thanks for any input you guys/gals give!

Thank WTK for posting this sale.

I got my cart up to 16 items, but I couldn't force myself to bring it up to 25 items. So, in the end, I dropped 8 items and picked up 2 I didn't really need:

- Ah My Goddess (DTS) (upgrading my non-DTS version...at $5...what the heck)
- Burn Up Scramble Vol. 1-3
- El-Hazard: The Wanderers Vol. 1 (Finally...been trying to find this for < $10 forever.)
- Mermaid Forest Vol. 1-4
- Patlabor Movie III

I added the Rumiko Takahashi Anthology and the Captain Harlock's. But I'm trying to tone down my anime purchases, so since it wasn't enough to get me to 25, I simply cut them out.

An awesome selection of 25 titles. I'm envious of not only your savings, but the good times that awaits you once you receive your order.

My bad; I forgot to mention that I already have Chobits. (That's the only other item in the sale that I own.)

Any other ideas?

How about Koi Kaze (3 Volumes)? Maybe Lain, Serial Experiments (4 volumes) or Last Exile (7 volumes) or Rumiko Takahashi: Anthology (4 volumes) or Strawberry Eggs (I My Me!)(4 volumes).

Last Exile is one of my favorites. There are many good ones to be had in this sale. What about El Hazard? I hear that one is good. Maybe that and Koi Kaze. I haven't seen either, but they seem like they might be up your alley.

Hmm...I've looked up Koi Kaze, and it does sound very interesting. I'm going to add that one. Strawberry Eggs sound interesting too, especially because I'm a teacher (albeit not a cross-dressing one) at a junior high school.

I've seen Lain before, which I thought was a good idea, but poorly executed. I'm also going to pass on El Hazard, merely because I'm going for complete series.

Descriptions I'm reading of Last Exile sound very action heavy. Is the series mostly character development or is it mostly fighter planes? It does seem like an interesting concept.

I've never seen any of Rumiko Takahashi's work, but a quick search on her suggested that many of her animes are quite bloody and violent. Is this the case with the anthology?

Thanks for all your help!

Koi Kaze was a good series, if the concept was a little bit odd.
I watched Lain, and agree with you--I liked the idea, but the show itself didn't impress me.
Rumiko Takahashi is bloody and violent? Didn't she do Lum and Ranma? I don't know if 'bloody' is a word I'd use to describe her work, unless there are some I'm not familiar with. I won't deny there's some cartoon violence, I'm pretty sure Ataru got whacked multiple times.
I'm trying to browse the site, but it's so slow it keeps timing out : (

Last Exile is a very good blend of action, character development, and ... Idunno. I think it's very unique. It really impressed me when I watched it. I'd like to watch it again sometime soon, but I just have too much other stuff to deal with ATM, which is why I'll probably just stick to the one order I made and try not to order anything else.

As I said, I've never seen any of her work. I don't really know. It's not that I mind a bit of violence (I expect Paranoia Agent will have a fair amount.) I just don't want that to be the main point of the show.

I think its safe to say that Rightstuf is so overloaded right now, that you can't even browse the website. They put up a post about this hours ago.

I agree with JBM regarding Last Exile. It has a very good blend of action and story and the production values are quite high. I paid around $120 for the series by picking up the singles and I haven't regretted it(until today that is). A good resource site that has user ratings is-

www.animenfo.com . They also have a top 200 list which I find helpful.

From what I have seen of Paranoia Agent, it's fairly violent with definitely a large amount of adult subject matter. Pretty grim. I decided to go ahead and fill in the missing volumes, and I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Yeah, but it's $16 for the only work by Satoshi Kon that I haven't seen. Even if I hate it, I feel wholly justified in its purchase. That's the only way I can participate in these sales. I have to legitimize the purchases to myself. Kon tends to use violence (or any other adult subject) for a purpose besides simple shock-value.

Yeah, I agree. It's definitely worth a watch from what I've seen, and it totally is easy to justify buying stuff in this sale since even if you end up hating something you've purchased, you can likely sell it off for the same or even more.

I haven't seen the rest of her work, but Rumiko Takahashi's Anthology is pretty unobjectionable. There's a story about a girl with an overactive imagination who thinks that
Spoiler:
her father plans to escape the family's financial debt by driving the car off of a cliff
; and there's a couple of stories about salarymen cheating on their wives. That's pretty much it.

I wouldn't show it to little kids, but it's certainly not bloody and violent.
