Lordy, I sound like a company shill, don't I?!? Sorry 'bout that.
I rather do as well, so I suppose it's really just an indication that they're onto something here...
Then again I spend craploads at work and so I've already got a pretty good pile building up for the end of the year...

I hear ya' there. Already the balance in my Holiday Savings account is telling me that I spend waaaaaaay too much money at work! (and I also agree that it really is a decent program. Free is free, as they say, and you can't beat that with a stick....at least, not without a lot of extra effort )

Ouch.
Luckily I'm IPT so I never close (and can occasionally avoid the registers).

Agreed on both counts there.

I'm definitely getting the controversial classics 2 box set tomorrow though, using my PSD earned within a couple weeks of getting the card (and a 30% off coupon, of course, since the enrollment one lasts another good week)

Is this a coupon they give you when you first sign up? If so, they never game me anything other than the card (and key chain cards) when I signed up this past Thursday.

are those 30% off coupons one time use only or can you print multiple? if so, can someone possibly link to one?

No, you get the coupon when you register your Borders Rewards card online.

You can print multiples. The coupons have your name and account number on them.

I'd say lucky you being IPT, but I know how hard {most} of our IPTers work. And that 5am stuff would kill me. My brain doesn't funciton that early.

That'll be a nice one. I already blew my PSD for this month, though, so I'll have to wait until next month for another. Oughta take mebe about a week

Lucky for me, they work me either 9-5/6 or 11-7/8. We only have one person a day come in at 7am, too. I've definitely heard the different stores vary on this front. From what all the people I know on the floor say tho, I'm pretty appreciative of working IPT. Though sorting normal trade books is an utter pain, and my area of expertise is *primarily* the media side of the store.

hahaha
Yeah I'm gonna wait on some books I have on hold for Wednesday and get my next one...
These WB boxes are pretty good things to use the coupons on I've found after the aforementioned Peckinpah box as well.

A question-- when do these PSDs happen, do you choose the day? And do they give you a 30% off coupon right away when signing up? Could I go and use this 40% the same day I sign up or must it be spread out? Since the nearest store is about 40 minutes away

All the answers to your questions can be found at bordersrewards.com FAQ. Here's the answers in short:

Yes you can choose any day as your PSD before the deadline. Yes you will receive a 30% off coupon via email after sign-up. No you can't combine 30% off regular price and 10% off discount on PSD. You get to spend at least $50 in-store in the same month first, then Borders will send you an email notifying your PSD status. I signed up the reward program six days ago and I received a PSD email today. Hope it helps.

I read in this thread already that the coupons can be stacked-- or is what they give you a 30% total order coupon and not the one item one?

Are you saying you have to spend $50 in order to get the PSD?

Here's a tip that may benefit some of you. I did a credit request throught the Borders Rewards site for a past purchase dated 2/17/2006 and it posted instantly. I tried doing this again with older purchases 1/30/2006 and prior, but those were not found by the system. So, my guess is that it'll accept submissions beginning when the program started.

Straight from the FAQ page from the site.

Can I combine Personal Shopping Days with other coupons or in-store promotions?

In some cases. Personal Shopping Days can be combined with in-store discounts such as those that pertain to bestsellers and Borders Original Voices. They cannot be combined with discount events such as Teacher Appreciation Weekend and Senior Appreciation Weekend, or with percent-off or dollar-off total transaction coupons. Personal Shopping Days cannot be combined with Holiday Savings Rewards, employee discount, or the purchase of any of the following items: gift cards and certificates, rush fees, special-order deposits and shipping, tickets and donations, magazines, comic books, and newspapers.

I hope this is not strictly enforced.

It seems like only members can get higher % off savings like 25 or 30% off. They really try hard to get people to sign up their reward membership.

I'm still confused. Can someone use a 30% off an item coupon with a PSD? What would be the point of only getting 10% off?

I must be dense because I can't see how this program will benefit me. The prices are so high that a 30% coupon still doesn't lower the price to a competitive level. I purchased PRETENDER season three because it had a white sticker that said $29.99. In the past, I've been able to use items with a white sticker with the 30% off the regular price of an item. Not Friday. They took the percent off the $39.99 MSRP so I ended up paying nearly $30.00--hardly a bargain considering I can get the same item for just over $23 at Barnes and Noble. Even with the Holiday account, I'd still lose money. I really don't get how this would serve me.

Ah, ok.

Something the CSR chick didn't tell me. However, I noticed that was how she put my info in -- straight into the computer. (Maybe she wanted to save time since they were closing in a few minutes? But I did ask her if it was too late to apply for the evening, seeing as how they were going to close in a few minutes, she kindly said "no" and asked me to go near this computer terminal. But, I digress...)

So, now what do I do? I went to the borders.com website, and I can't find a way to navigate into the rewards program. Someone want to help me out? Or has my card already been registered once the CSR had input all that info directly when I signed up?

It is strictly enforced, but total transaction coupons are very rare anyway. Line item coupons (X off one item, percent OR dollar) are much more common and are usable with PSDs.

Yes they can be combined.
And what on earth B&N do you live near!? the one out here charges list price on everything and never has discounts...

Did you register the card online? You should get the email immediately upon registering.
