I just called up the Sam Goody in the Broadway Mall (Hicksville, NY) - 50% off on dvd's and 60% off when you buy 4 or more.

When I went there on Saturday, Suncoast (in the same mall) had signs that there were 4 days left so today should be their last day.

The Star Trek box sets were 50% off at my local Suncost, but it was off the MSRP, meaning Enterprise was still $70.

My local Sam Goody store (Springfield Mall, PA) was pretty well picked over but I was able to find some CDs and picked up the store's last copy of "Seinfeld," season 6 for just $20 as part of the "buy 4 or more, get 60% off" discount. There's still no indication of when the store will be closing, but about 2/3 of the floor space in the store is empty. They'll probably just move any remaining DVDs to the Suncoast in the same mall which is staying open. For anyone in the Philadelphia, PA area looking for an entry-level electric guitar, they had maybe a half dozen or so for $100 each (a few with practice amps).

Is there a current list of stores going out of business? Or does anyone know of the stores going out in Washington State or Utah? Thank you.

It now seems the Suncoast in my area is going too. I just walked in yesterday to them hanging closing signs up. I guess there's only going to be ONE Suncoast store in Michigan, somewhere east of Lansing. Not that I frequented it, but they had some nifty stuff sometimes. I doubt there'll be much left by time it becomes worth it to get stuff there though.

Astroboy: complete series - $14 ($37 @ DDD)

The Dallas Valley View one is now closing in 9 days -- one worker said the following Sunday to this one is the last day. All stuff is Buy 4, get 60% AND Christmas stuff has been raised to 80% (not much left, mostly CD's). Much thinner since last weekend, probably the 60%, still some TV boxsets, a couple Enterprise and other miscellany.

I wonder if the others in Dallas are following too with 9 days.

Went to the one in Santa Ana today and got the Buy 4, get 60% off deal. Picked up:

Boy Meets World: Second Season 19.99
Illegally Yours 5.99
Shooting Fish 1.59
So Little Time: Volume 1 5.99
Vampire High 3.99
Happy Campers 3.99

They had a lot of Seinfeld sets left still.

I went to my local mall Thursday after work and both Suncoast and Sam Goody were closed. I don't think they ever went below 40% off. Suncoast's sign was gone and they already put a wall up. Sam Goody was dark and empty.

Oh well, I couldn't find any good deals the few times I went in.

Went to a Sam Goody today in North Babylon, NY. It was up to 60% off 4 or more, 80% off Christmas and guitar tabs, 50% off batteries and electronics/cables. They still had quite a bit left. My wife, dad and I found some pretty good deals:

Audioslave - Live in Cuba CD/DVD - $8
Sledgehammer S2: $16
Val Lewton Horror Collection: $24
Richard Lewis: Concerts From Hell - $10

...and a bunch of new CDs were $6.79 down from normal $16.99 price.

Well, it is lookin like the end as more and more get sparser and sparser, even the Christmas stuff is now clearing out - after being 70% from the beginning even.

Overall, the family/kids stuff is basically cleaned. War of the Worlds (Tom's) is VERY plentiful at Frisco, Arlington and Denton, enough to start your own store with. CD's still have a good number, especially outnumbering DVD's left in the Sam Goody's.

Anyone in Dallas wanting Babylon 5 - Irving Mall Sam Goody has S3, 4 and 5 - first time I saw them there in a cardboard box with other DVD TV sets - maybe shipped in from a closed store ??

Some people were looking for X-Files (the old boxsets) - I believe Arlington's Parks Mall Suncoast had 3 boxsets, each of a different season, right out front.

Denton Golden Triangle Sam Goody has a good number of TV boxsets that I have not seen other places - Jeffersons, Knight Rider, Fresh Prince, Miami Vice S1 and S2, other older ones like that too. Otherwise alot of anime and alot of Seinfeld including "Puffy Shirt" gift set. (Frisco also for Seinfeld.)

Didn't make it to Collin Creek (were low last week) and have not been over to Town East, which was NOT on the list (but has both a Sam Goody and Suncoast) but as others have said some other stores not on the list have recently start their own closing sales.

There's not much left at Collin Creek, but I did notice criterions of Pickpocket ($16) and An Angel at My Table ($16). The used section has a pretty good number of titles left and they're all 60% off too.

Valley View Center is pretty picked over as well, but I saw several copies of the 2 disc Singin' In the Rain ($10.80), one copy of the 2 disc Unforgiven ($10.80), and one copy of the 2 disc Bullitt ($10.80). They also had a copy of each Boudu Saved From Drowning ($12) and An Angel at My Table ($16) for criterions.

I finally went back Saturday to the infamous Monroe Mall Sam Goody store in Monroe, North Carolina (this was the store which had pulled a dirty trick when the closing sale started by breaking up almost all of its dvd box sets, discarding the boxes, and pricing the individual dvds removed from the box sets at $19.99 each, as I first reported here on Feb. 20).

They had gone to 60% off cds and dvds for 4 or more. Action figures were 60% off. The Christmas merchandise was still marked at 70% off (only a handful of Christmas dvds remained). Guitar instructional dvds were 80% off (my brother picked up a few of these for only $1.99 and $2.99 each after discount).

It looked as if they had sold about 1/2 of the merchandise in the store (the back half of the store was full of empty fixtures). All of the guitars and amps had been sold.

When the sale had begun, the store had a fairly good selection of TV show dvd box sets (about 7 long shelves full along the wall).

While I was in the store Saturday, a clerk moved the remaining two shelves of TV box sets into the floor racks.

None of the clerks professed to know how much longer the store would be open, but considering the amount of stock left I doubt if it will be open much more than another week.

This store never had a really diverse or interesting stock of dvds to begin with, compared to what one would have found in a Suncoast or Media Play store (or even in the Albemarle, NC Sam Goody store, which is - so far - not closing)- just lots of common movie titles - no Criterions, very few foreign titles, a very small science fiction/horror section, no used dvds.

And what's left now has been pretty well picked over (I was glad to see that most of the dvds from the broken-up box sets were still there!).

I did manage to come up with a few good deals on this last trip (prices listed are all the final price paid after the 60% discount for 4 or more dvds):

Alias - The Complete Fourth Season - $23.99
Combat! Season One, Campaign II - $15.99

Crime Story - Season One - $15.99
Crime Story - Season Two - $15.99 (these sets both contained a rebate card from Anchor Bay good for $10.00 off if both seasons of Crime Story were purchased together - unfortunately the rebate had ended on March 20, 2006!)

At Last The 1948 Show - $11.99
A Tale Of Two Sisters - $9.99
Wishing Stairs - $9.99
Ed Wood: Special Edition - $7.99
We're No Angels (the 1955 Bogart version) - $6.79
Death Hunt (Charles Bronson/Lee Marvin) - $5.19

Total at Sam Goody before tax was $123.90 (versus $176.07 at DDD, for everything except Wishing Stairs and At Last The 1948 Show, which I couldn't find listed on DDD).

I made what will probably be my last visit to Suncoast today. I went with the intention of getting some Fullmetal Alchemist DVD's for my son (they had volumes 1-8 at least on Saturday, 11.99 each after 60% off) to stock up for Christmas, but of course, when we got there today, they only had one copy of v. 5 left (he bought v5 on Saturday). Instead, we got the Controversial Classics Box Set (31.99), the Astro Boy Collection Box Set (15.99), Lone Wolf & Cub: Sword of Vengeance (11.99), and the Seinfeld S5&6 Box (47.99). I can officially say they now have absolutely nothing left that I am interested in.

Went back to the Huntsville Parkway Place Mall Sam Goody (closing 23 APR) and picked up Rules of the Game CC, Astronaut's Wife, Grand Canyon, and Q&A to get the 60% markdown. Ended up spending $24.58 after taxes and will probably take the last three to Blockbuster as trade in or perhaps to Movie Stop for 3 for 1. Passed on Angel At My Table CC, but might go back.

Looks like the Suncoast in Racine, WI is closing. I believe it started last week, as they are only on 20% off on DVD's right now. The store is pretty much stocked right now and i'm hoping i can catch it when it hits 40-50% off. I figure about two weeks or so till it gets there, hopefully there will be somethings left.

The store at the Cambridgeside Galleria mall is closing on Sunday, April 9, and they still had some good deals left at 60% off. I had a pretty good haul today, about 10-12 titles including the King Kong Production Diaries for about $15 (they had ~ 5 left). I may go back tomorrow. Books and magazines were 80% off, and I picked up two Chronicles of Narnia blank journals/diaries for about $2 each. Some of the price stickers looked inflated ($30 for the new "Bewitched" movie?!), but I guess that's to be expected. Lots of fixtures left in this store, as well.

I haven't read this whole thread, so I apologize if I'm repeating anything. Good luck!

Bob

P.S. I noticed that the store in the Mall of New Hampshire (Manchester, NH) is already closed.

Quick update on another store: The Suncoast in the Rockingham Mall in Salem, NH isn't closing until June. The manager told me they were in "week 1 of 10". DVDs are around 20% off -- in other words, probably few good deals. But the store is well-stocked, and I'll be keeping an eye on it. FYI.
