anyone else borders ringing up for 8.99 in store?

I picked up Almost Famous at the Borders in Tyson's Corner, Va on Thursday. At the register, the manager on duty thought it was the wrong version, because he'd looked for the Bootleg Cut earlier in the day and hadn't been able to find it (probably because I already had it on hold). I must've just beaten someone else to the punch. :P Anyway, the DVD scanned at $33.99. I suggested he try typing in the BINC number rather than scanning it, and viola -- $8.99. Thanks to everyone who reported this deal.

About the labels: If you look at the Borders label, it will provide you with a lot more information than the UPC. It'll tell you the date the item was shipped to the store, how many copies were in the shipment, the store it belongs to, and where it is shelved. The labels are always placed on the front sides of DVDs (and the backs of books), which makes taking inventory easier, since you don't have to hunt for the UPCs (anyone who's entered a large number of DVDs into DVD Profiler can tell you the location of UPCs isn't always standard). Scanning the UPC generally will not work at Borders. *Sometimes* the ISBNs of books can be scanned, but usually it has to be the Borders sticker.

Ralph Jenkins - That was my copy :) I was the one that called and talked to manager to see if they had any in stock and said "no". Did they have anymore? The sterling store is dead set on selling this for 8.99.

ginster,
I did an online reserve Wednesday night (after reading about it here), so when the employee went to the shelf to pull your copy, he probably didn't find it because I already had it on hold. :) Sorry about that. It looked like I got the last copy (there were only two copies of the regular edition of the movie on the shelf). However, according to the Borders sticker on the DVD, the store received it as recently as September. So maybe they'll replenish their stock. |
Ralph Jenkins - Thanks for the info! I will have to keep checking there, only problem is I am about 30 minutes away.
The Sterling store has 1 copy and I have been trying to get for a week now. I go in a different times and speak with different managers, but every one of them will not let it go for 8.99. They keep telling me to buy it online. I might check out the Fairfax store tomorrow. |
