When you ask this local blockbuster what did they say? If they are willing to give you $5...go with it. Some BB's are franchises and may differ on policies etc. To some degree...YMMV....again to some degree.

I work at blockbuster, and last night I got the qoutes on about 19 titles I am thinking about getting rid of, the tally of 19 DVD's equaled out to be about $64 in store credit. Its a pretty sucky deal, but if you have no need for the DVDs you might as well get rid of them...

I'm curious about this, too. I only know of Blockbuster and Gamestop/EB that still buy used dvds, but am slightly underwhelmed by their prices. Is there any other B&M stores with -- at the least -- a comparable offer?

You can also try FYE. I've just recently begun trading in some used titles and have gotten some pretty good deals, i.e. Hero $10. Lord of the Rings: Fotr $6.25. Just today i traded in Lady and the Tramp :LE for $15, which i consider pretty good considering the new one is coming out in Feb.

I also know that Suncoast and Sam Goody's take trade ins, i can't quote any prices from them but i've seen a used section at both.

That sounds like a pretty great deal! Thanks for the info -- I'll check it out.

if that store has one sign, or shelf tag up saying that, then they have to honor it.

same as if they have a dvd with a lower then correct price they have to honor it.

Try used cd stores. I went to two different ones about a month ago and got cash (no credit) for my trade ins.

Plus both stores had an abundance of used dvds as well. One of them had every single season of the Sopranos and numerous tv box sets. Not hugely great price wise when you buy, but you can find some deals.

The one near me has signs up about it but I've never tried it out. I'll put in a plug for my usual method of getting rid of old DVDs which is to donate them to the local library. Granted it doesn't give you cash in hand but if you itemize your deduction you can write off the donation and they take pretty much everything (minus adult titles I suspect, I've never owned any to try to pass on to them).

I traded in several of those $1 overstock previewed
dvds I purchased last week. They gave a minimum
of $3 credit each for them.
Only one they would not take for the
reason about being over bought. I also have
been trading in dvds to the wherehouse.com.
And also spun. But they are picky on condition.
Where as by BB took scratched discs.

Thankfully I unloaded a majority of my dvds
during the $8 trade in period.

Just call them up and ask. Or take a few titles
in with you next time. See what they offer.

Yeah, I feel like a cheap bastard doing it, but the BlockBuster here is two stores over from Wal-Mart, so on more than one occasion I've picked up a handful of $1 DVDs and gotten $3 credit for each at BlockBuster. I never do it with more than 2-3 titles at a time, but when BB has a new title for $24.99 that Wal-Mart doesn't have, I'm basically getting $9 credit for $3 in movies ($6 off) and matching the better prices of other further-away stores.

Don't forget secondspin.com which has decent prices on some things, and now they can pay you with paypal so it is quick...

If you have one in your area MovieStop offers a trade in 3 used, get a new release free (under $20). As long as the movie is from a major studio and shows at least a $1.50 trade in value in their computer it will work, either for current items on their new release wall or for preorders on their reservation list (currently over 60 titles).

Hey guys, when I have a good bunch of dvds to sell here's what I do....We have a yearly multi family yardsale (ours is coming up this Saturday!) and I offer my extra dvd's for $5 and at that price I can sell them all day long and people will keep coming back for more...I rather get $5 from people who will enjoy them than $3 from lame ass stores who will turn around and make a profit on them...

I thought Blockbuster didn't take the $1 Walmart DVDs.

I've never had one turned down. I usually just pick the ones with higher profile actors ("The Terror" with Jack Nicholson, "The Swap" with Robert DeNiro, "Boy In The Plastic Bubble" with John Travolta, etc.) and even if it doesn't immediately pop up when scanned, they can tag it in the system since the title is in their inventory.

I'd imagine they turn down some of the really random obscure titles, though.

Why not try to sell them here? I am sure if they are in good quality you can sell them for more then $3, or maybe suggest a trade, all though I doubt anyone will want to give up their HD DVDs or BR. As for me I am still waiting out the format war and am using netflix.
