Got there about 8:10. REALLY, REALLY rare for me to get up early on a Saturday, but I had no idea what I'd find. Haven't even been to Sears for about 2 years.

Hardly anyone there. One couple had 4 DVD's at the counter, the cashier called a manager to help because of course everything was ringing up at full price. Manager had to call another manager. 2nd manager said the sale was only good on Buena Vista titles, 1st manager said that didn't make sense because Spanglish is a Columbia film.

While they are figuring it out, I am circling the DVD's. Plenty to pick from. Only DVD's above $19.99 are Seinfeld Season 3, and Chappelle's Show Season 2.

Didn't write down titles, trying to remember.

48 Hrs, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Stripes Extended, Seed of Chucky, Aviator, Are We There Yet, Be Cool, Brother Bear, Finding Nemo, Incredibles, Mary Poppins, Bambi, Alice In Wonderland, Spanglish, Pochahontas, Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Team America, National Treasure...

Picked up Aladdin and Fat Albert and walked to the counter.

Couple still hasn't checked out. 1st manager finally says anything 19.99 and under is eligible, but Dvd's have to be bought in pairs, and only 1 copy of each title.

Gives the couple a 'Misc discount' on the 4 dvd's, knocking the price from $79.99 to $30.

Manager picks up Aviator and says she just bought that for full price last night. Couple leaves, manager walks away, cashier rings up my purchase hits the 'misc discount' again, and I pay $16.16. Out about 8:25.

Went to Lompoc to spend the day, almost went to the Sears there, but didn't. Called a friend living in Lompoc after the sale was over, they got mad at me that I didn't tell them about the sale.

At the register they were all ringing up for their regular price and the cashier called the manager who tried to say that it was only DVDs that are regularly priced at $9.99 and we said it wasn't possible because Spanglish and Finding Neverland are two that sell for $19.99. Eventually we won the dispute and the guy said to give only the people on line whichever ones we had in our hands and then after that, it's only good on $9.99 ones. So, my fiance and I ended up with:

Alone in the Dark
Darkness
Spanglish
Coyote Ugly (Unrated and Extended Cut)
Pocahontas (10th Anniversary Edition)
Elektra
Mr. 3000
XXX: Director's Cut
Stripes (Extended Cut)
Terminator 3
Out of curiosity, which Sears did you go to?

I don't know your friends. Heck, I don't even know you, but I could never get along with these kind of people. I've had friends, coworkers, and even family members say the same things to me as if it was my obligation to be their personal newscaster.

Back on topic...
Your story sounds similar to mine and some others in this forum. Basically, I don't think Sears planned this sale appropriately (at least this DVD promo) and was unprepared. Managers had to contact their corporate office for a clue.

My sears said only 9.99 titles were under the deal. There was nothing good anyway. Would have liked Hitch and XXX, but oh well.

I didn't bother to go to this Sears sale because I didn't care enough about Spanglish and Finding Neverland for $7.50 each and also because from past experience I expected only a very limited set of other DVDs to be on sale that cheap. I figured I would read a few stories in this thread, just as I did above, about how some people scored big time with new releases and a bunch of Disney features (most of which I paid around $15 each for) for $7.50 each, but I also knew if I took the time to drive to my local B&M early on Saturday the likelihood of me getting anything besides the 2 titles listed for $7.50 was very small. These things are truly "YMMV", and using the word "mileage" is correct because such long-shot deals often put lots of wasted mileage on the car, not to mention the time involved.

My Sears was rather rude. They had a rack of $7.50 dvd's they said qualified for the sale BUT they also said it was always a $7.50 each sale. They did have to look for Spanglsh and Neverland, both marked $19.99 and said those were the only other two in the sale. Again, two young clerks, very rude as if others had been "bugging' that morning.

I couldn't find Spanglish or Neverland at the Clackamas, OR store, and the salespeople were clueless. Wandering around the store afterwards left me amazed that a store that large could have so much merchandise that I had absolutely no interest in owning.

I didn't even bother going to Sears because I was not sure if they would have Widescreen copies of Finding Neverland. Took the ad to Circuity City across the street. Price Matched it and got 110% discount. Ended up being $6.25 each plus tax.

I now wish I had stopped at Sears just to check if other $19.99 movies were $7.50. Oh, well!! You win some and you lose some

I would have bought HITCH too, which they had out, but the computer wouldn't let them sell it until the Tuesday release date (should have been the same for CASINO, but that one went through).
Exact same scenario for me at the Roseburg, OR store. Picked up:

The Aviator 2-Disc WS
Bambi 2-Disc SE
Apollo 13 2-Disc AE
Stripes Extended Cut

Might have picked up a few more, but I wanted to get out of Dodge before they changed their minds. The whole time he was ringing me up, the clerk was grinning and shaking his head, saying "This can't be right!"
