I hope they're not outsourcing to India now. I haven't called Best Buy for a while now but they were using Canada for all the years I did. They hated to be asked where they were so I always made sure to do it.

The recording industry recently lost a class-action lawsuit that basically they were price fixing to gouge consumers.

When you call a 1-800 number for these retailers, more often than not you're connected to India, which has a rare combination of an englist-speaking population and workers willing to work for the equivalent of less than one dollar an hour.

Best Buy does not produce these DVD's - the studio does. Thus, the people defending retailers are defending the fact that Best Buy likely pays more than $20 for a copy of Traffic: CC, and as a result, selling them at 7.50 each does them financial harm. This has nothing to do with the cost of manufacturing, which is such a simplistic straw man argument that it does not even merit discussion.

Hate to stereotype, but he certainly sounded like he was from India. I felt like hanging up and hoping I would get somebody else on the next call (which I have done before).

[QUOTE=Father Karras They also sent me a $5 digital coupon good at Bestbuy.com until Jan. 31, 2005 for my trouble.[/QUOTE]
I got the same coupon. BB has done alright by me on this transaction-2 mispriced titles shipped, a $5 coupon for the 1 that they cancelled.:)

dvd182 01-19-05 02:20 PM

I got a $5.00 digital coupon as well. This is a pleasant surprise, since I wasn't expecting anything (nor should they have to do anything).

Kaiser Soze 01-19-05 02:40 PM

My order for Traffic CC was cancelled too. No sign of a $5.00 digital coupon though. For the people who received the digital coupon, was it in the same email saying the order was cancelled, or was it a separate email all together?

bis22 01-19-05 02:44 PM

I got the coupon too about six hours after the cancellation notice.

We appreciate your interest in 2 DVDs for $15 promotion. Due to a system
error, we included the wrong SKUs in the promotion. As a result, we will be
canceling the Traffic -Widescreen DVD(s) from your order(s). If you have any
questions concerning our policies, please review the Conditions of Use which
are found online.

Because you are a valued customer, we would like to offer you the following
$5.00 Digital Coupon* toward a future purchase at BestBuy.com:

It was a separate e-mail. The cancellation e-mail was located in my regular inbox, but the coupon e-mail was found in my spam folder. Make sure to check your spam folder.

The Cow 01-19-05 02:48 PM

Yep, got the cancel this morning, and the 5 bones coupon this afternoon

fliggil 01-19-05 03:04 PM

Did they come right after one another? I got the cancellation early this morning, its now 4pm and no coupon.

ScottsDvds 01-19-05 03:11 PM

I received two $5.00 coupons for both orders placed, but the strange thing is the first order only had Traffic and Amistad (DTS), which Traffic shipped. Thank you Best Buy and thank you to the op.

As there is a call for Best Buy to be truthful in this matter, Best Buy has issued the following statement.

We (Best Buy) ran a 2 for $15 promotion recently. Unfortunately, a pricing clerk made several errors including adding expensive editions that a third grader would know were incorrect as well as offering up pre-orders for half the price that they always go for. That and small details like we don’t even have stock for some items yet. The individual has been fired thus adding to the role of individuals now being paid unemployment benefits at the taxpayer’s expense.

The truth is that truly talented people usually don’t become pricing clerks to begin with and those that happen to start out that way move on to better jobs commensurate with their talents. Thus, pricing clerks tend to be low rung employees of short-term status thus making us spend much time hiring and training new ones. This leaves us with people with no talent or lazy folk or people new to the job.

Best Buy does make mistakes – a fact that doesn’t escape the Internet. The Internet is full of people looking for bargains – which is great – but when we make a pricing error that no reasonable person would consider likely we get a tremendous number of orders taking advantage of the situation. On the other hand, (and perhaps not surprisingly) we get precious few phone calls or e-mails from people letting us know that we made an error. Many of these same customers get indignant when we cancel their orders accusing of us being untruthful with them. Truth? Why aren’t truth and ethical treatment a two-way street?

More truth is that we can’t afford to pay our pricing clerks more. The consumer (you) demand low prices and have already shifted DVD sales to other countries. So, if we continue to lose money due to pricing errors and the like we will move more quickly to outsource these corporate functions to other countries where these jobs will attract better skilled labor and spend less in the process.

Naturally, this means a continued loss of North American jobs. Sobering I know, but you did want the truth … didn’t you?

It took me to "The individual has been fired thus adding to the role of individuals now being paid unemployment benefits at the taxpayer’s expense." before I realized it was a joke.

dollfins1 01-19-05 03:33 PM

recieved $5.00 coupon too. not too shabby considering they didn't have to give us anything.

The first sentence about the third grader didn't tip you off?!?!?!?!

Thanks to the OP of this thread.

I placed one order consisting of Knight's Tale: SB, Rudy: CE, Hoosiers: Deluxe (?) Edition, and Traffic: CC.

They shipped Knight's Tale and Rudy, but cancelled both Hoosiers and Traffic. =(

I did, however, receive a $5 digital coupon, like some of the others.

The good news is Traffic CC is now only $12.50, thus making it $7.50 again to purchase it, when using the coupon. ;)

natevines 01-19-05 03:43 PM

Utterly dissapointed about the Traffic cancellation since a few people got in :(
but I shouldn't get too down, Rudy deluxe and Showgirls Box for $20 shipped isn't too shabby. I haven't received any coupons as of now.

kenbenobi 01-19-05 03:50 PM

I had a cancellation from two different orders, and only received one of those letters so far, but I'm not worried. I assume they are going in the order that the orders were placed. My 2nd order was placed way after the first order. So it's a good thing that we were forced to use two different accounts to place two orders with this deal! Otherwise we'd only be receiving one digital coupon...

dollfins1 01-19-05 03:54 PM

used the $5.00 dig. coupon to pre-order Bambi which comes with its own $5.00 coupon. was going to take advantage of this deal anyway. :)

$17.14 including shipping/tax

where?

Highfire 01-19-05 04:12 PM

Cancelled my order but I still managed to get Rudy DE and Jerry Mcguire SE.

ScottsDvds 01-19-05 04:17 PM

I'm thinking about getting Deadwood with my coupons, it's $69.99 plus a $15 digital coupon. I think I received that second coupon by accident, because I emailed them trying to use my Reward Zone accout after the fact. They specifically said in the email that my Traffic was cancelled and it wasn't. Good luck to everybody.
