I went NUTS on this sale. The best part was unloading all my crap on trade-in. They are giving MINIMUM $5 credit. I had a ton of non playables, 4:3's, and non-anamorphic turds. They even gave $6.50 for some titles. I got;

Touching the Void
Winged Migration
Cold Mountain
Badder Santa
Eurotrip Unrated (pre recall WS)
The Cooler
Somethings gotta give
Cabin Fever
Texas Chainsaw Massacre SE
Cheaper by the dozen
Timeline
Bulletproof Monk

My area isn't doing this yet. This will work out great, I can go clean out the $3 DVDs at my favorite pawn shop and unload them on Blockbuster.

What are the restrictions on DVDs you can trade in? Do they have to be major studios, more recent movies, etc? I assume they will not accept those $1 DVDs from Wal-mart?

Apparently they don't even need to play.

They can only take DVD's that are in the store's (national) database, so if they scan the UPC and it doesn't bring anything up, or they search the database and your title isn't listed then there's nothing they can do to give you money (i.e. store credit or gift card) for the disc. Rest assured though, they're giving far more than they should for crap titles, just don't think you can pick up any disc and get the $5 credit, but it's pretty close. As far as I know this is part of their new method of doing business in the future which can be great for some of you looking for deals too as some Criterion dvd's are priced for resale at only $10, etc. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

Dreamers (NC-17) in phx?

I noticed it was mentioned someone found a NC-17 version of the dreamers- I've been to 2-3 different locations and only have found the R version- has anyone seen the NC-17 version in the Phoenix area?

saboteur59,

I've been/called all over Tucson and there is no NC-17 version at Blockbuster here, so I'd say your chances are not good in Phx.

Blockbuster DOES NOT carry NC-17 films. If The Dreamers were Unrated then there could be a chance, but since it was released as NC-17 in theatres you will not find it at Blockbuster.

I picked up 13 Going on 30, Starsky & Hutch, and The Perfect Score today.

Also, the NYC stores are doin' in the trade-in deals now.

I scanned a couple of my stinkers but didn't trade any of them in yet:
Ali: $5
The One: $5
American Pie 2 (Full Frame): $5
Scary Movie 2: $5
Head of State: $6.50
Panic Room Superbit: $5
The Great Escape Old Version: $5

You have to factor in that Blockbuster now differs with used DVD's at each location depending upon traded in items. If someone were to bring in the NC-17 version of The Dreamers and trade it in, voila. Both versions are listed in the database, so naturally, they could take the item in as a trade. Blockbuster's changing for the better.
