I tried this for the hek of it. Not the Fry's ad but the CompUSA ad for $39.99 since I don't have any Fry's in my area.

The CSR did the match competitor's price to $39.99 and that worked. Then when she scanned the 20% off coupon, it went to $34.39. If it would've worked, the new price would've been $31.99.

What happens is that if the Package price (in this case movie with coupon) that price will take precedence over the price matched price.

Now, if the coupon was take $5 off or something like that instead of 20% off, I think that it might have worked.

Also, if you need a Fry's ad, go to OCRegister.com and then click on the Newspaper ads section under Marketplace on the left hand side. Then click on retail and it'll list all the ads and you can make them PDFs. I think the Star Wars page for the Fry's ad was like the fifth or sixth one down on the left.

I did a pricematch at TRU with the compusa ad, I also got the $10 GC to go with it. It was funny, I called my local store to see if they would do it, then had to drive 20 mins to get the compusa flyer, there is a tru next to that store so i figured id try, thought i had it but then a manager on a walkie talkie said no which mean he was too lazy to come up front with the key. So I headed back down to my local TRU and said "widescreen please" and halfway through ringing it up i said "i called earlier and was told i could price match and get the GC, here is my ad". The cashier calls over to her manager and says "we got another one of those price match people", so she comes over with her key and does the deed. Thanks TRU!

A decent deal can be had at Sears of all places. This is a YMMV cuz not all Sears carry DVDs.

There's a $5 off $35 coupon that I found at Fatwallet.com.

I've actually used that coupon a few times on other items.

Neways, here's the deal:
Sears sells it for $44.99 this week ($49.99 regular price). Then PM it to Frys ($36.99) or CompUSA/K-Mart ($39.99). You still might be able to do the Fry's PM if you have a Fry's in your area and if they don't look at the one-day sale only thing.

The computer automatically takes off 10% of the difference which would make it $36.19 or $39.49. Then give them the $5 off $35 coupon and your price will be $31.19 + Tax or $34.49 + Tax.

Is there a thread or web pg with all the retailers contact info by chance?

I would just call the customer service number on their website.

I thought perhaps that the magazine at Best Buy would be something special, since with Indy and the Matrix you actually got something kind of cool. It's a whole lot of fluff with little substantial. I'm also surprised retailers are not offering more freebies with this release. Ealier this year, with ROTK, I got free batteries, popcorn and a really good price. And that was only the theatrical edition.

shawagg 09-21-04 10:40 PM

It took some doing and 3 trips to 3 different TRUs but I ended up getting it for $27 (37 at Fry's PM - 10 GC).

Thanks Dabaomb- I'm going to give the Sears thing a try with a CompUSA pricematch.

Just returned from Sears. The clerk was happy to price match CompUSA and honored the $5 off coupon. :)

Thanks!

Fry's price is up $2, but still good.

Frys, $38.99, Wednesday and Thursday.

Not sure if it's been mentioned someplace in this 15 page thread :)

KMart has it for $39.99 in the Cleveland area - three different stores, same price.

Price matched at Sears using the CompUSA ad then used the $5 coupon.

Hello:

I just got back from Sears, using a coupon that came with a Sears ad in the mail last week where, if you use your Sears Card, you can save $10 off any purchase over $20 (several restrictions, but none pertaining to DVD's).

So I went in, showed the Fry's Ad, got them to PM, then had them knock off $10 using the coupon. To make the deal even sweeter, I had my cousin who works there, hook me up with an additional 10% off. When all was said and done I walked out the door with the OT for about $27.

I think you can still find the coupon, but you have to look around the store. It is valid from 9/8-9/25. If you can't find it, you might wanna ask one of the clerks to see if they know where you can get it.

Who would have thought that Sears would have the best deal?!

Crazy!!!!

Damn! I didn't even know Sears sell DVDs now :p

DouglasRobert 09-23-04 02:46 PM

The Wal-Mart in Bolingbrook Illinois (On Route 53) price is $38.99.

However, all they had in stock was the Pan & Scan version.

Date checked September 23,2004 10:00 A.M.

I even checked inside the Electronics Department and all they had was the Gold Box.

englishboy15 09-23-04 03:03 PM

I was in Best Buy last night. They indicated that the set really wasn't selling particular well.

you've gotta be kidding me. The Best Buy in Chelsea Manhattan was almost sold out as of Wednesday night.

mmguen 09-23-04 07:20 PM

Unfortunately the Sears near me sold out the first day and doesn't know if or when they will get more. They said they just started selling dvds (it used to have a Wherehouse concession selling dvds that went kaput).

BeckysBoy 09-23-04 09:02 PM

Anybody know who'll have the best price next week? I don't get paid until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Big Worms 09-23-04 09:08 PM

I would take a guess that it will go back up to its regular price of $49.99

BeckysBoy 09-23-04 11:52 PM

I heard somebody say that Fry's would have it for $39.99 the week after release, but that was a while ago.

stargun 09-23-04 11:58 PM

Ok my deal, I when to Toy R Us priced matched my local walmart for $ 42.87 and got the free $ 10.00 gift card, Then price matched Best Buys add for the game at $ 42.99 then used the $ 10.00 gift card and you get another $ 10.00 gift card !!

I picked mine up at the Anaheim Fry's location. Believe it or not, there was no display, no end-cap setup, nothing. They had two stock people standing in the aisle since the shelf had space for about 6 box sets. Every minute and a half, they would open another box and place more sets on the shelf. I half expected to see a hamster running on a wheel to print out my receipt when I checked out...
My Fry's story will beat your story.

I went in at 9:00 a.m., one hour after they opened. There was a line winding all the way from the front to the back of the store - at least 100 people - with a copy of the box set in their hand (silver boxes, of course). I got my set and stood at the end of the line.

It took exactly one hour to get to the register. Want to know why?

Fry's "system" had "gone down," resulting in 19 cashiers recording each transaction and filling out everyone's credit card receipts by hand! They said it affected the whole Fry's network, so other stores were having the same problem at that time.

After I bought my set, I went back to the end of the line and it was still all the way back to where I started. I told them, "It's a one-hour wait from this spot." Nobody left the line. I don't blame them - by then there were even fewer of the 1000 boxes still left on the shelves.

grip 09-24-04 12:05 PM

Fry's in San Marcos, CA did not have such problem. In fact, there was no one there at 8 AM. Fry's employees were waiting for a rush, but the 4 or 5 of us, just casually went in and loitered around the display. I went through the line three times within 15 minutes as they did not allow me to purhase all three on one ticket at the sales price.

FYE Rebates

Maybe I missed it in the thread but...

Why is everyone worried about cutting the box to get the UPC for the FYE rebate when there is a UPC/ISBN label on the shrink wrap?

The rebate form states: "Original UPC symbol from the package", which is exactly what I intend to provide them.

I don't know about FYEs' shrink wrap, but the one from coconuts.com didn't have one - that's why everyone is so ticked.

I would have less "worry" about removing one of the tabs inside than cutting on the packaging itself.
