RIP John Cassaday

John Cassaday (Planetary; Astonishing X-Men) passed away at the far too young age of 52.

Re: RIP John Cassaday

Planetary is one of the greatest comics ever made. Cassaday's art on it became such an influence on the industry, that kind of widescreen approach fundamentally changed the game.

Terribly young to pass away, what a shame. Sad news.

What.. the.. fuck?

I'm absolutely devastated. He was a ridiculous talent and had so much more to give.

Yeah this one hurts. Artist of my generation are now dying (Pacheo, Dillon...) I really dug his work, especially on Planetary. Way too young.

Re: RIP John Cassaday

His health may have been an issue for the past couple years. One of the variant covers he knocked out for Marvel(?) a couple years ago looked pretty poor and looked nothing like his early art. I remember people criticizing it.

I was going to mention that too but i didn’t want that piece to be the last memory of him.

Re: RIP John Cassaday

Just looked him up on Wikipedia, and it appears his output has been thin for the past several years. The last major credit he had was Action Comics #1000 back in 2018.

Also looks like he hasn't posted on his twitter account since last year. And the last con he attended was Wicked Comic Con in 2023, but was scheduled for Baltimore Comic Con later this month.

Re: RIP John Cassaday

Whoa, I just turned 53 on the 9th of this month, that is way too young. Cassaday is a stunningly talented artist who has worked for Marvel, DC, etc., just someone I like to think of as an artists, artist. Rest In Peace

Putting aside his flawed artistic output while he clearly seemed to be in ill-health, when you look at his overall body of work you can see why so many folks praised his work over the past 10-20 years. A real loss to the artistic community.
