DC Comics - 2022 Thread

Let's see what this year brings to DC Comics. Their line has gotten so Batman-centric is becoming a running joke. Next week there are 13 Batman/Batman related titles on the shelves

Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

The rumors of Geoff Johns being out of DC turn out to be false as hes writing Flashpoint Beyond. Now the controversy is that Ray Fisher supporters want Johns fired

DC is struggling to retain top talent, I don't think Johns has anything to worry about.

Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

There were rumors that Johns was in the outs at DC due to the situation with Ray Fisher, his work difficulties with the DC top brass and his demotion in the company. His projects have been given to others or simply put on complete hold, and he took his personal pet project to Image instead of keeping it in house

I’ve seen conjecture that this upcoming Flashpoint series could have been written quite awhile ago.

For a quite a while now it seems like almost every week that at least half of DC's output has been Bat-family stuff (Batman, Joker, Harley, Gotham, Robin, Nightwing, Birds, et al).

If that's the only thing that DC can sell, it doesn't bode well for their future prospects. What happens when comic book readers get bored with the deluge of Batstuff?

I think that part of the problem is that the cover prices have gotten so high that it's essentially pushed anything that isn't A-list off of the shelves. The industry just can't support anything that isn't Batman, Spidey, X, or Avengers in a sustained manner.

Marvel has proven that the industry can support great stories with characters not named Spidey, X or Avengers. On the other hand, the problem with DC and their Bat-centric line is that it was a mandate from AT&T when they took over the company. It seems that Discovery is keeping the mandate but we'll see how long that lasts. I mean, it's completely ridiculous that Doom Patrol has a TV show and no comic book. Same with Black Adam having a movie and no comic book. Sooner or later they'll realize that they have to go back to publish non-Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman books to keep up with Marvel in their TV and film divisions. Marvel completely understands that comic books are basically screenplays with cheaper rates. Let's see at what point the people at Discovery will discover the same.

This is seriously fucked up and once again shows how every parent company for DC has hired the most inept people to ruin the company and then bolt. Fuck this guy.

Wasn't he brought on as a hatchet man?

The suits brought him in to gut the place. He did. And then he gets the fuck out. If it wasn't going to be him, it would be someone else to do the dirty work.

Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

Josh is 100% correct. He was brought in to fire dead weight and anyone the new corporate bosses thought was overpaid, then move on soon afterwards. Fairly common in corporate America.

So it appears "killing off" the Justice League is basically DC's way of salvaging their original 5G plans by introducing a new team with younger characters. This gives the new characters a little time in the spotlight while the mainstay heroes are in limbo for a little while.

Probably the easiest thing they could have done without further angering existing fans. Everyone knows most of the heroes won't be dead long.

Or they could stick the newbies into Young Justice or another new title.

DC never met a gimmick or headline it didn't like.

I really wish DC would retire the Crisis moniker for a long time. They've run that title into the ground.

Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

Yeah, when you have a Crisis every six months, it kind of dulls the impact.

Oooh! There's a bunch of superheroes flexing and running toward the camera, there's lightning and cosmic rays flashing, someone's going to get their origin story rewritten, and Superman might cry again! This is going to be awesome!

I'm done with DC. I'm just a Batman fan now, and will come back to Clark when he gets his own title again and some powers.
