Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

Every time this thread gets bumped I'm worried that Discovery has turned it's attention to the comics division.

Stop trying to make Wild Cats a thing.

Jim must have has a clause when he sold, that DC has to publish every so often.

Even still every time a new one comes out I get excited....later to be disappointed but still.

Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

Alan Moore and Joe Casey were the only writers able to turn WildCATs into something readable. The property is basically just a Mad Libs of late 80s and early 90s superhero tropes.

I mean, you make it sound like the Joe Casey run wasn't long... it's really good, goes far away from pure superhero shenanigans and lasted quite a while. The Wildstorm stuff by Ellis isn't bad either. Of all the founding Image studios I like the output from Lee's Wildstorm the best (though they lose a lot integrated into the "regular" DC universe)

Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

I couldn't get into the Ellis stuff.

While the original was just a "Mad Libs" version of early 90's superhero tropes, that what I was into at the time so it worked for me. Moore obviously took it in a completely different direction that made it it's own thing and I loved that. Casey's run so again different and surprisingly good.

JFC, are the people at DC tone deaf. I just hope all these covers are simply scrapped and they shelve the whole concept for this year

That's some Onion-level shit.

"DC Comics celebrates Hispanic heritage by releasing special comic book covers that showcase their heroes eating tamales and tacos."

Of those terrible covers, Hawkgirl is the only one that doesn’t look like they just drew some Mexican food onto a pre-existing cover.

Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

Whenever I see an announcement like that, I always wonder what the reactions are.

Like, are there people out there that are just completely thrilled that Action Comics #1050 is going to have twenty-five different covers? And, by God, they're going to get every single one of them! Better buy a new long box, too!

And are there other people who read that and think, Well, shit, I'm going to have to track down and buy twenty-five different covers for this comic book? And I'll need another long box, too...

And most people are probably like me, who just shake their heads...

I went all-in on Action #1000, but I doubt I'll feel the same about #1050. But since the only thing I'm currently collecting is Superman, I might get a few of the neater covers (if I deem any neat enough!)

Re: DC Comics - 2022 Thread

For Action 1000, I just waited, and eventually most of the variant covers editions were found in $1 bins, and that's how I collected them.

Just in time for the Black Adam film to be released in theaters, DC is releasing Marvel Family Comics #1 facsimile. This books is being reprinted for the first time ever and it features the first appearance of Black Adam

My only issue with some of the recent facsimiles has been the price point. I don't mind paying $3.99 for a facsimile but the Detective Comics 27 and Action Comics 1 were both $6.99. That's ridiculous. I hope they keep doing them as not only they sell well, but it's a cheap way to get reprints of these important books. I know Dan Didio was against them because he felt they overshadowed the current line of books.

Yeah, I get that per page it’s probably on par or even a ‘deal’ compared to a normal $3.99 book, but $6.99 does seem high. Luckily, I order everything over standard cover price from DCBS so got those for $4.19 each.

I dig them too. Though I wish they were printed at the Golden Age size. Or at least slightly bigger at the Silver Age dimensions.

I wouldn't mind cheaper newsprint paper either but DC's are still better than Marvel's. I picked up the Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 facsimile edition and was turned off by the slick paper and bright printing. One of the best facsimiles I've ever seen was the Human Torch from 1999:

I am so fucking frustrated that I'm still not allowed access to DC Universe Infinite. When the hell is it gonna be available for Europeans?!
