Re: Marvel Comics - 2022 Thread
I buy nearly all digital these days but have seen some of the new Mighty Marvel Masterworks in stores, and I like the format. It’s the same Silver Age content in a smaller paperback format, and I could see it appealing to kids if they can get through the wordiness. I own all these stories four times over, of course.

Honestly, not really excited about this. I feel Gleason was doing an amazing job on the book as an artist. They just needed a top writer, like Chip Zdarsky or Donny Cates or Tom Taylor to take the reigns. JRJR’s artwork has really gone downhill. His DC stuff was pretty bad for the most part

There is good JRJR and there is bad JRJR. The good is really good and the bad is absolutely horrible. We're seeing way less of the good the older he gets I think.

And this is a fucking problem because he’s at a point where no one at Marvel will call him out. At the same time, it pushes away a young talent like Patrick Gleason who could have become the next superstar if he was given a long run on the book.
Artist like JRJR and Frank Miller are given free reign no matter how much their work has deteriorated. The final product looks like shit because no one from editorial will call on them to change stuff.

I love Travis Charest (though I'm not sure I would've been able to tell that that was his drawing just by looking at it). Dude went from the cloniest of Jim Lee Clones to (IMHO) a better (but slower) artist than Lee. Has he done anything besides covers lately?

I’m glad Marvel has kept releasing facsimile editions. Great way to read these key issues for cheap

Nice! That's how you do characters with the same name. Just make 2 series. Marvel is good for that, where DC is not.

I really liked volume 1 of the Savage Avengers series. Hopefully this one is as good

I wasted so much money on those 1992 trading cards. I haven't looked at them in years and I think they may have even been thrown out by one of my siblings. Are the originals worth anything or junk status like most baseball cards from that era?

These cards have gone up in value over the past couple of years. Complete sets were selling at one point for a couple of hundred but now are down to $50-75.
